Swayne versus Middleton, in Error.

Upon reading the Petition of Bennet Swayne; praying a Day may be appointed, for hearing the Errors argued upon a Writ of Error depending in this House, wherein the Petitioner is Plaintiff, and Benjamine Middleton Defendant:

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House will hear the said Errors argued thereupon, on Thursday the Second Day of April next, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon.

Bristol Hospitals, &c. Bill.

Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for erecting of Hospitals and Workhouses within the City of Bristol, for the better employing and maintaining the Poor thereof."

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Report from the Committee appointed to consider of the Charters of the East India Company, &c. shall be made on Monday next, at Ten of the Clock, before the Cause.

Message from H. C. with a Bill; and to return Ridout's.

A Message from the House of Commons, by Sir Rowland Gwyn and others:

Who brought up a Bill, intituled, "An Act for the more effectual preventing the Exportation of Wool, and for encouraging the Importation thereof from Ireland;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Grey and others:

To return the Bill, intituled, "An Act for the Sale of Lands in Horsington, in the County of Somerset, Part of the Estate of Christopher Ridout an Infant, for Payment of Incumbrances charged thereon, and for preserving the Residue of the said Estate for the Infant;" to which they have agreed, with some Amendments, whereunto they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Which Amendments, being read Three Times, were agreed to; and ORDERED, That the Commons have Notice thereof.

Seamen, for Increase and Encouragement of, Bill:

The Earl of Manchester reported from the Committee of the whole House, the Bill, intituled, "An Act for the Increase and Encouragement of Seamen," as fit to pass, with some Amendments.

Which, being read Twice, were agreed to.

Then, Hodie 3a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for the Increase and Encouragement of Seamen."

The Question was put, "Whether this Bill, with the Amendments, shall pass?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Protest against it.

"Leave having been asked, and given, to any Lords to dissent, if the Question was carried in the Affirmative; we, whose Names are underwritten, do dissent:

Thanet.

"Rochester.

Nottingham."

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Sir Miles Cooke and Sir Richard Holford:

To return the said Bill, and desire their Concurrence to the Amendments.

Plantation Trade, to prevent Frauds in, Bill:

The House was adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee upon the Bill, intituled, "An Act for preventing Frauds, and regulating Abuses in the Plantation Trade."

After some Time spent therein, the House was resumed.

And the Earl of Rochester reported, "That the Committee had gone through the said Bill, with several Amendments."

ORDERED, That the Report thereof be made Tomorrow Morning, before any Public Business.

Merchants, &c. Petition concerning it.

Upon reading the Petition of several Merchants and Owners of Ships trading to the Plantations:

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Consideration of the said Petition shall be, and is hereby, referred to the same Committee to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for the Increase and Encouragement of Seamen," was committed.
