Hodie 1^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for erecting Hospitals and Work-houses within the Town and Parish of Tiverton, in the County of Devon, for the better employing and maintaining the Poor thereof."

Law Suits, to restrain the Length and Expence of, Bill.

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House shall be put into a Committee upon the Bill, intituled, "An Act to restrain the Expence and Length of Suits in the Courts of Law and Equity," on Tuesday next, at Eleven of the Clock.

Message from H. C. with a Bill.

A Message from the House of Commons, by Mr. Gery and others:

Who brought up a Bill, intituled, "An Act for the more easy passing Sheriffs Accompts, and Execution of their Offices;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Sir C. W. Bampfield's Bill.

Hodie 3^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act to enable certain Trustees therein named to make, renew, and fill up, Leases of the Estate of Sir Copplestone Warwick Bampfyeld, during the Minority of the said Sir Copplestone Warwick Bampfyeld and John Bampfyeld his Brother."

The Question was put, "Whether this Bill shall pass ?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

ORDERED, That the Commons have Notice, the Lords have agreed to the said Bill, without any Amendment.

Message to H. C. for the Conference about Mr. Bertie attending concerning the Libel.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Sir Miles Cooke and Mr. Meredith:

To let them know, the Lords have considered of their Message Yesterday, for a Conference; and agree to the same; and appoint it presently, in the Painted Chamber.

Then these Lords following were appointed Managers of the Conference; (videlicet,)

Burgh's Bill:

Hodie 3^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for settling certain Lands in Essex on Thomas Burgh Esquire and his Heirs, in Lieu of other Lands, of greater Value, conveyed by him according to a Decree, and the Will of Sir Samuel Jones deceased."

Davis's Bill.

ORDERED, That the Consideration of the said Bill be committed to the Lords following:

Their Lordships, or any Five of them; to meet on Saturday next, at Eleven of the Clock, in the Prince's Lodgings near the House of Peers; and to adjourn as they please.

Cary's Bill

Hodie 1^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for vesting the Moiety of certain Lands in Hackney, in the County of Middl'x, in Trustees, for the Benefit of Susan Cary, Widow and Relict of Nicholas Cary Esquire deceased, and others."

Bp. of Winchester's Bill, for Alverstoke Waterworks.

Hodie 1^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for confirming a Lease granted by the Lord Bishop of Winchester, of a Parcel of Waste Ground in Alverstoke, in the County of Southampton, for the erecting of Water-works there, and for improving the same."

Report of the Conference about Mr. Bertie attending concerning the Libel.

The Commons being come to the Conference, the Managers Names were read.

Then the House was adjourned during Pleasure, and the Lords went to the Conference.

Which being ended, the House was resumed.

And the Lord Marquis of Normanby reported, "That they had attended the Conference; and that the Commons acquainted them, that they not being informed by the Message of the particular Matters contained in the Paper, or upon what Grounds the Lords ask to have Mr. Bertie, their Member, appear before them; they desire they may know what the Nature of that Account is, which is expected from their Member."

ORDERED, That the Report of the Conference had this Day with the House of Commons shall be considered on Saturday next, at Eleven of the Clock; and all the Lords summoned to attend.

Hopkyn versus Philpot:

After hearing Counsel this Day, at the Bar, upon the Petition and Appeal of Phillip Hopkin, from Two several Decrees made in the Court of Exchequer, the Seventh Day of December One Thousand Six Hundred Ninety-six, in a certain Cause there depending, wherein Edward Philpot and James Harrie are Plaintiffs, and the said Phillip Hopkin the Appellant Defendant; as also upon the Answer of the said Edward Philpot and James Harrie put in thereunto:

Judgement affirmed, with Costs.

It is ORDERED and Adjudged, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Petition and Appeal of Phillip Hopkin shall be, and is hereby, dismissed this House; and that the Decrees from which he appealed shall be, and are hereby, affirmed: And it is further ORDERED, That the said Phillip Hopkin shall pay, or cause to be paid, to the Respondents, the Sum of Twenty Pounds, for their Costs.

Twyford versus Hilliard.

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House will hear the Cause wherein James Twyford is Appellant, and William Hilliard Respondent, on Monday the Fourth Day of April next, at Eleven of the Clock.

Coote versus Lynch, in Error.

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House will hear the Errors argued upon the Writ of Error depending in this House, wherein Richard Coote Esquire is Plaintiff, and John Lynch Defendant, on Monday next, at Eleven of the Clock, peremptorily.

Lloyd and Godolphin versus Carew:

Upon reading the Petition of Sir Evan Lloyd Baronet, and Dame Mary his Wife, Sidney Godolphin Esquire, and Susan his Wife; praying an Explanation of the Judgement of this House of the Thirteenth of January last, upon the Petition and Appeal of the now Petitioners, and the Answer of Sir Richard Carew put in thereunto:

Judgement

It is this Day ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That these Words following be added to, and made Part of, the said Judgement; (videlicet,) ["And it is further ORDERED, That, upon Payment of Four Thousand Pounds unto the said Sir Richard Carew (or into the Court of Chancery for his Use), the Appellants be put into Possession of the Premises in Question."]
