The Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas sat Speaker.

Tilsley and Potenger versus Wright & al.

Upon reading the Petition and Appeal of Thomas Tilsley, and Anne Potenger Widow, from Four Orders and a Report, made in the Court of Chancery, the Ninth Day of November, the Ninth Day of March, One Thousand Six Hundred Ninety-six, the First Day of May, the Sixth Day of May, and the Nine and Twentieth Day of June, One Thousand Six Hundred Ninetyseven, in a Suit there lately depending, by Bill of Revivor, between the Petitioners Complainants, and Angelot Wright Widow, (Executrix of John Tilsley) and others, Defendants; and praying, "That, notwithstanding the said Orders and Report, the Petitioners may be at Liberty to proceed to a Trial at Law upon a former Issue:"

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Angelot Wright may have a Copy of the said Appeal; and shall and she is hereby required to put in her Answer thereunto, in Writing, on Thursday the Six and Twentieth Day of this Instant May, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon.

Impeachments, Report concern in Methods of proceeding upon.

The Earl of Rochester reported from the Lords Committees appointed to consider the Method of Proceedings upon Impeachments, as follows; (videlicet,)

"That their Lordships do find, upon their Search into several Precedents of Proceedings upon Impeachments, that the Persons impeached have generally been brought to the Bar of the House; where they kneeled till they were bid to stand up; and the Clerk read the Articles: And then the Speaker of the House asked them, "What they had to say for themselves?" Whereupon, they desiring a Copy of them, and Counsel to be allowed them, and Time to Answer; it hath been accordingly ordered: And their Answers have been afterwards delivered in by them at the Bar, and communicated to the Commons by Message."

Goudet, Barreau, Longueville, & al. at the Bar:

This Day John Goudet, David Barreau, Stephen Seignoret, Rene Baudowyn, Nicholas Santini, Peter Dihearse, and John Pearse, now in the Custody of the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod attending this House, were brought to the Bar; where they kneeled until they were bid to stand up.

And the Articles of Impeachment being read to them; they were asked, "What they had to say for themselves?"

Whereupon they desired, "A Copy of the Articles, and a convenient Time allowed to answer thereunto; and Counsel to assist them."

Then the following Orders were made; (videlicet,)

To put in their Answers:

"It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That John Goudet, David Barreau, Stephen Seignoret, Rene Baudowyn, Nicholas Santini, Peter Dihearse, and John Pearse, may have a Copy or Copies of the said Articles against them; and do put in their Answer or respective Answers thereunto, in Writing, on Wednesday the Five and Twentieth Day of this Instant May, at Eleven of the Clock in the Forenoon; and have hereby Counsel allowed them."

To enter into Recognizances for their Appearance:

"Upon reading the several Petitions of John Goudet, David Barreau, Stephen Seignoret, Rene Baudowyn, Nicholas Santini, Peter Dihearse, and John Pearse, praying to be bailed: It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said John Goudet, David Barreau, Stephen Seignoret, Rene Baudowyn, Nicholas Santini, Peter Dihearse, and John Pearse, do each of them enter into a Recognizance of Five Thousand Pounds apiece, and their several Sureties in Five Thousand Pounds more, for their respective Personal Appearance before the Lords in Parliament, from Day to Day, until further Order of this House."

Committee to consider of Method of proceeding against them.

"It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Lords Committees appointed to consider of the Method of proceeding on Impeachments do meet on Saturday next, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon, in the Prince's Lodgings near the House of Peers, to consider of the Sufficiency of the Bail to be offered by John Goudet, David Barreau, Stephen Seignoret, Rene Baudowyn, Nicholas Santini, Peter Dihearse, and John Pearse."

Arnold versus Attorney General & al.

After hearing Counsel, this Day, upon the Petition and Appeal of Thomas Arnold, from Two several Decrees made in the High Court of Chancery, the Three and Twentieth Day of July One Thousand Six Hundred Ninety-four, and the One and Twentieth Day of December One Thousand Six Hundred Ninety-seven, in a certain Cause there depending, wherein the Attorney General was Plaintiff, and the Appellant Thomas Arnold, Mathew Johnson Esquire, Thomas Bedford Gentleman, and others, were Defendants; as also upon the Answer of His Majesty's Attorney General, Mathew Johnson, Thomas Bedford, and John Boucher, put in thereunto:

After due Consideration of what was offered thereupon, it is ORDERED and Adjudged, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Petition and Appeal of Thomas Arnold shall be, and is hereby, dismissed this House; and that the Decrees therein complained of shall be, and they are hereby, affirmed.
