Parliament prorogued.

Memorandum, Where the Queen's Majesty, by Her Writ, summoned Her Parliament to be begun and holden at Westm. this 12th Day of November, as by the same Writ more plainly appeareth, Her Highness, upon certain great and weighty Causes and Considerations Her Majesty specially moving, by the Advice of Her Privy Council, and of Her Justices of both Her Benches, and other of Her Counsel Learned, did prorogue and adjourn this said Parliament until the 4th Day of February next, by virtue of Her Writ Patent, sealed with the Great Seal, and bearing Date the 15th Day of October last past; whereupon, at this said 12th Day of November, John Archbishop of Canterburie, Primate and Metropolitan of England, Sir Christopher Hatton, Knight, Lord Chancellor of England, William Lord Burghley, Lord Treasurer of England, Henry Earl of Huntingdon, the Bishop of London, the Lord Cobham, the Lord Buckehurst, and the Lord Norris, repaired to the Parliament Chamber, commonly called the Upper House, and there, in the Presence of the Knights, Citizens, and Burgesses, summoned to the same Parliament, did open and declare, That Her Highness, for divers good Causes and Considerations Her Majesty especially moving, by Her Highness's said Writ, had prorogued Her said Parliament from this said first-summoned Day, until the Fourth Day of February next; all which Matter being notified to the said Assembly, the Writ for the said Prorogation, in the Presence of all that Assembly, was there read by the Clerk of the Upper House, publicly and openly; the Tenor whereof ensueth, ad verbum:

"Elizabetha, Dei Gratia, Angliæ, Franciæ, et Hiberniæ Regina, Fidei Defensor, &c. Prædilectis et Fidelibus Nostris Prælatis, Magnatibus, et Proceribus Regni Nostri Angliæ, ac Dilectis et Fidelibus Nostris Militibus, Civibus, et Burgensibus, dicti Regni Nostri, ad præsens Parliamentum Nostrum, apud Civitatem Nostram Westm. duodecimo die Novembris proxime futuro inchoandum et tenendum, convocatis et electis, et vestrum cuilibet, Salutem.

"Cum Nos, pro quibusdam arduis et urgentibus Negotiis, Nos, Statum et Defensionem dicti Regni Nostri Angliæ et Ecclesiæ Anglicanæ concernentibus, dictum Parliamentum Nostrum, ad diem et locum prædictos, teneri ordinaverimus, ac vobis, per separalia Brevia Nostra, apud Civitatem et diem prædictas interesse mandaverimus, ad tractandum, consentiendum, et concludendum super hiis, quæ in dicto Parliamento Nostro tunc et ibidem proponerentur et tractarentur: Quibusdam tamen certis de Causis et Considerationibus Nos ad hoc specialiter moventibus, dictum Parliamentum Nostrum usque ad quartum diem Februarii proxime futurum duximus prorogandum; ita quod nec vos, nec aliquis vestrum, ad dictum duodecimum diem Novembris, apud Civitatem prædictam, comparere teneamini seu arctemini. Volumus enim vos, et quemlibet vestrum, erga Nos penitus exonerari; mandantes, et, tenore præsentium, firmiter injungendo præcipientes, vobis, et cuilibet vestrum, ac omnibus aliis quibus in hac parte intererit, quod ad dictum quartum diem Februarii, apud prædictam Civitatem Westm. personaliter compareatis et intersitis, et quilibet vestrum compareat et intersit, ad tractandum, faciendum, agendum, et concludendum super hiis, quæ in dicto Parliamento Nostro, de Communi Consilio dicti Regni Nostri (favente Domino), contigerint ordinari. In cujus rei Testimonium, has Literas Nostras fieri fecimus Patentes. Teste Meipsa, apud Westm. quinto decimo die Octobris, Anno Regni Nostri Tricesimo.

Imo (inquit) ista est maxima hujus Parliamenti convocandi Causa, ut in hoc amplissimo Virorum gravissimorum et prudentissimorum Consessu, qui hucce omnibus Regni Partibus evocati convenerunt (quantum humano Consilio provideri potest), diligens Præparatio adhibeatur, ut Arma, ut Milites, ut Pecunia, in promptu sint, ut Classis, quæ maximum est Regni Propugnaculum, ornata, instructa, et ad omnes Eventus expedita sit, etc."
