With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for repairing the Road from the Top of Crickley Hill, in the County of Gloucester, to Frogg Mill, and through the Towns of Northleach, Burford, and Witrey, and Parishes of Handborough and Bladen, to Campsfield, in the Parish of Kidlington, in the County of Oxford, and also the Road from Witney, through Ensham, Cumner, and Botley, to the City of Oxford," to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The Earl of Oxford reported from the Lords Com mittees to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for enlarging the Term and Powers granted by an Act passed in the Third Year of the Reign of His present Majesty, for repairing and amending the several Roads leading from Woodstock, through Kiddington and Enstone, to Rollright Lane, and from Enslow Bridge to Kiddington aforesaid, in the County of Oxford, and for making the said Act more effectual," was committed "That they had considered the said Bill, and examined the Allegations thereof, which were found to be true, and that the Committee had gone through the Bill, and directed him to report the same to the House, without any Amendment."

Manchester Road, Bill.

Foulis against Dodswell & al

After hearing Counsel, as well on Friday last as this Day, upon the Petition and Appeal of the Reverend John Foulis Clerk, lately One of the Ministers of the New or English Chapel in Edinburgh, complaining of an Interlocutor of the Lords of Session in Scotland, of the 10th of November 1747, as also of another Interlocutor of the said Lords, of the 20th of the same Month, whereby they adhered to their former Interlocutor, made on the Behalf of Richard Dodswell, John Vicarage, Patrick Wedderburn, Hugh Crawfurd, Mansfield Cardonald, Christopher Rhodes, and Richard Swanston, Vestrymen and Managers of the said New Chapel, and praying, "That the said Interlocutors might be reversed or varied, or such other Relief given the Appellant as to this House should seem just" As also upon the Answer of the said Richard Dodswell and others put in to the said Appeal, and due Consideration had of what was offered on either Side in this Cause.

Judgement.

It is Ordered and Adjudged, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Petition and Appeal be, and is hereby, dismissed this House, and that the said Interlocutors therein complained of be, and the same are hereby, affirmed.

Upon reading the Petition of Constantine Phipps Esquire, praying, "In regard the Infant Son of Charles Coote Esquire, One of the Respondents to the Petitioner's Appeal, who is dead, has put in his Answer by his Mother and Guardian, pursuant to the Order of this House, that a Day may be appointed, for hearing this Cause"

Upon reading the Petition of Henry Arthur Earl of Powis and Barbara Countess of Powis his Wife, setting forth, "That, upon the late Marriage of the Petitioners, the said Earl did intend to apply to Parliament, to enable him to make a Settlement, pursuant to Articles entered into before the said Marriage, which took up longer Time than was expected," and praying, "That Leave may be given to exhibit a Petition for a Bill for that Purpose"

Accordingly, a Petition of the said Henry Arthur Earl of Powis and Barbara Countess of Powis his Wife, an Infant, only Daughter and Heir of the Right Honourable Edward Herbert, commonly called Lord Edward Herbert, deceased, who was Youngest Son of the most Honourable William late Marquis of Powis, deceased, and Younger Brother of the most Honourable William the last Marquis of Powis, also deceased, who was Eldest Son and Heir of the First named William Marquis of Powis, and Uncle of the said Barbara Countess of Powis, praying Leave to bring in a Bill, for carrying certain Articles of Agreement, for settling a Jointure on the Petitioner Barbara, into Execution, and rendering the same effectual for the Purposes thereby intended.

It is Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Petition be, and is hereby, referred to the Lord Chief Justice of the Court of King's Bench and the Lord Chief Baron of the Court of Exchequer, with the usual Directions, according to the Standing Order.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Belchier and others.

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for enabling James Langston, formerly called James Haughton, and his Heirs, to use the Surname, and bear the Family Arms, of Langston, pursuant to the Will of James Langston, his Uncle, deceased," to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The Two last mentioned Bills were severally read the First Time.

Trials by Jury better regulating, Bill

The House (according to Order) was adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee upon the Bill, intituled, "An Act for the better Regulation of Trials by Jury."

After some Time, the House was resumed.

And the Lord Willoughby of Parham reported from the said Committee, "That they had gone through the Bill, and made some Amendments thereunto, which he would be ready to report, when the House will please to receive the same"

Mainwaring Ellerker's Bill.

His Lordship also reported from the Lords Committees to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for the effectual securing of a Jointure, by Way of Rent Charge, for Barbara Mainwaring Ellerker, Wife of Eaton Mainwaring Ellerker Esquire, and raising Portions for their Younger Children, pursuant to an Agreement contained in their Marriage Settlement; and for confirming and establishing the Surname of Fllerker, and the Coat of Arms of the Ellerkers of Risby, in the County of York, and the Crest granted by King Henry the Eighth to the said Eaton Mainwaring Ellerker and his Issue," was committed "That they had considered the said Bill, and examined the Allegations thereof, which were found to be true, that the Parties concerned had given their Consents; and that the Committee had gone through the Bill, and directed him to report the same to the House, without any Amendment."

S Sea Stock Interest reducing, Bill

The House (according to Order) was adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee upon the Bill, intituled, "An Act for reducing the Interest upon the Capital Stock of the South Sea Company, from the Time, and upon the Terms, therein mentioned, and for preventing of Frauds committed by the Officers and Servants of the said Company."

After some Time, the House was resumed.

And the Lord Bathurst reported from the said Committee, "That they had gone through the Bill, and directed him to report the same to the House, without any Amendment."

Haughton to take the Name of Langston, Bill

The Lord Willoughby of Parham reported from the Lords Committees to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for enabling James Langston, formerly called James Haughton, and his Heirs, to use the Surname, and bear the Family Arms, of Langston, pursuant to the Will of James Langston his Uncle deceased," was committed That they had considered the said Bill, and examined the Allegations thereof, which were found to be true, and that the Committee had gone through the Bill, and directed him to report the same to the House, without any Amendment."
