PRAYERS, by Mr. Wilson.

Lords present this Day:

Ds. Grey de Warke, Speaker.

Committee to draw up Reasons for not referring it to the Committee of both Kingdoms, to prepare Grounds for a Peace.

Ordered, That these Lords following are appointed Committees, to consider of drawing up Reasons why they do not agree with the House of Commons, in referring the Business to the Committee of both Kingdoms, to prepare the Grounds for settling a Peace, but rather that a new Committee be named:

Mr. Serjeant Whitfield to assist the Lords.

Recruiting the Lord General's Army.

Ordered, To have a Conference with the House of Commons To-morrow Morning, to put them in Mind of recruiting the Lord General's Army; and this Business the First to be taken into Consideration To-morrow.

Archbishop of Canterbury's Trial.

Next, the House proceeded in the Trial against the Archbishop of Canterbury.

And Jo. Bentley and Gherrard Gore upon Oath deponed concerning the pulling down the Houses near St. Gregories Church.

Next, Edward Bond and Michaell Arnold upon Oath deponed the Prosecution of pulling down their Brewhouses.

After this, the Archbishop made his Answer to the Evidence given on Saturday last by the Witnesses.

And Mr. Maynard made his Reply.

Ordered, That the Archbishop shall have Liberty till Four of the Clock this Afternoon, to make his Answer to the Evidence given in this Morning; and that Mr. Dell his Secretary shall be permitted to (fn. 1) be with him, during the Trial of his Business.

Ordinance for 2000 l. for Windsor Garrison.

An Ordinance formerly brought up from the House of Commons, for paying Two Thousand Pounds out of the Excise, to the Garrison of Windsor, was read Twice; and nothing being objected against it, it was read the Third Time, and Agreed to. (Here enter it.)

Archbishop of Canterbury's Trial.

The Archbishop was heard what Answer he could make to the Evidence concerning the Brewers.

And Mr. Serjeant Wyld and Mr. Maynard made the Reply to it.

Ordered, That this House will further proceed against the Archbishop of Canterbury on Friday Morning, at Nine of the Clock; and that, in the mean Time, his Counsel shall have Recourse unto him, according to the former Orders of this House; and shall have a Salvo, to make Use of the Record of E. III. mentioned by the Archbishop this Day in his Defence.

Conference concerning the Oath of Secrecy.

Ordered, That the Lord Wharton do make the Report of the Conference with the House of Commons To-morrow Morning, which lies in his Hands unreported.

Ordinance for the Commissioners of Excise to re-pay themselves 2000 l. advanced to the Garrison of Windsor.

"Whereas John Towse Esquire, and Alderman of the City of London, and the rest of the Commissioners of Excise, for the Supply of the Garrison at Windsor, are willing to advance and lend the Sum of Two Thousand Pounds: Be it hereby Ordained, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, That they, the said Commissioners of Excise, shall and may have Power to re-pay themselves the said Two Thousand Pounds, with Interest after the Rate of Eight Pounds per Cent. out of the Receipts of the Excise, within such Intervals of Time as other Assignments already passed by both Houses of Parliament shall not happen to fall due; and the said Commissioners of Excise are hereby authorized to pay the said Sum of Two Thousand Pounds, by them lent as aforesaid, unto Colonel John Ven Esquire, Governor of the Castle of Windsore, whose Receipt shall be their sufficient Discharge in this Behalf."
