Message from the Assembly, with a short Catechism.

A Message was brought from the Assembly of Divines, by Doctor Burges, &c. who presented a short Catechism which they have made; and they offer it to their Lordships Consideration.

Thanks to them.

The House received it; and gave them Thanks for their constant and great Pains; and desired, "That some Copies of this short Cathechism, and also the long Catechism, may be printed, for the Members of the Houses to consider of them; and that they would affix the Texts of the Scriptures in the Margin."

Ordered, That the Committee appointed Yesterday do draw up Reasons for the Conference with the House of Commons; and withdrew presently about it.

Masters in Chancery to attend.

Ordered, That the Commissioners of the Great Seal do take Care that this House be Daily attended with some of the Masters of the Chancery.

E. of Huntingdon, Privilege.

Upon reading the Petition of Ferdinando Earl of Huntingdon; shewing, "That he is sued, by divers "Creditors of his Father's:"

It is Ordered, That he shall be allowed the Privilege of Parliament, as a Peer of this Realm.

Message from the H. C. with Names to be added to the Committee for Assessments in London.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Alderman Atkins, &c.; who brought up some Names to be added to the Committee for bringing in the Arrears of the City of London, wherein they desire their Lordships Concurrence. (Here enter it.)

Kinnersley to attend the King with the Wardrobe.

Ordered, That Mr. Clement Kinnersley shall go with the Wardrobe to the King, in the Isle of Wight, and attend in his Place there.

Murdock and the Earl of Leicester.

Upon reading the Petition of Murdock: It is Ordered, That the Solicitor of the Earl of Leycester shall see this Petition, and give an Answer to this House To-morrow Morning.

Beck's Institution.

Ordered, That the Complaint against Mr. Becke shall be heard on Thursday come Sevennight; and Mr. Byfeild to have Notice of it, that the Witnesses may appear.

Charge against Cawdrey, Proctor of Cam. Univ.

Ordered, That the Cause against Mr. Cawdrey shall be heard on Tuesday Morning next.

Message to the H. C. for a Conference about the Propositions.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Doctor Aylett and the Clerk of the Crown:

To desire a present Conference, in the Painted Chamber, concerning some Propositions to be sent to the King.

Wharton to continue Minister of Bowness.

Ordered, That Lancelott Wharton, Minister at Bownesse, in the County of Cumberland, shall continue in officiating the said Cure, until such Time as the Title to the said Rectory betwixt the Patrons be by Law or otherwise cleared and determined; and this with a Salvo Jure cujuscunque, and without Lapse.

Heads for a Conference about Propositions being sent to the King.

The Earl of Northumb. reported from the Committee, the Draught of what they conceive fit to be offered to the House of Commons at the Conference, concerning sending some Propositions to the King.

Which being read, it was Agreed to upon the Question.

"The King having so often desired to be heard; and the Commissioners of Scotland so often pressing for a Personal Treaty; and the Kingdom also long expecting to be freed of their great Pressures and Burdens by some speedy Settlement of the Government: The Lords do desire, that the Two Houses may do that which shall discharge their Duty, in respect of the Safety both of Kingdom and Parliament, and yet not refuse to hear the King in such Things as may be subjected unto Debate: They therefore do propose, That, these Four Propositions herewith offered unto you, which they conceive do most immediately concern the Safety and Security of the Kingdom and Parliament being put into Bills, the King may be desired to give His Royal Assent unto them; which being accordingly by them done, they do conceive that the most satisfactory Way, and that which is most likely to produce a speedy Settlement of our present Distractions, will be for the Houses to admit of a Treaty upon the rest of the Propositions."

Answer from the H. C.

Doctor Aylett and the Clerk of the Crown return with this Answer from the House of Commons:

That they will give a Conference, as is desired: That they agree to the Paper sent Yesterday, concerning the London Agents; and they agree to the Order concerning the Nine Hundred Pounds for Officers: As to the Answer to the Scotts Letters, they will send an Answer by Messengers of their own.

Message to them, to settle some constant Pay for the Army.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Doctor Aylett and the Clerk of the Crown:

To desire that they would take some speedy Course for settling of a constant Pay of the Army, that so the Countries may be freed from Free Quarter.

The House of Commons being come, the Lords went to the Conference.

The House was adjourned during Pleasure.

The House was resumed.

Glynn to be Sheriff of Cornwal.

Ordered, That John Glyn Esquire be Sheriff of the County of Cornwall, in the Place of John Elliott Esquire.

Busby, E. of Suffolk's Servant, Privilege.

Ordered, That Henry Busby, Coachman to the Earl of Suffolke, being arrested, and in the Custody of the Bailiff of Westm. shall be released; and the Bailiff to appear (fn. 1) before this House, to answer the same.

Impeached Lords.

Ordered, That (fn. 1) the Seven Lords impeached shall be taken into Consideration To-morrow Morning.

Sheriffs Order, to pay no Fees on their Accompts.

Ordered, That the Order concerning the discharging of Sheriffs paying Fees in the Exchequer, for passing their Accompts, shall be taken into Consideration To-morrow Morning.

Committee for bringing in Assessments in London.

"Ordered, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, That these Persons following, videlicet, Abraham Reynardson Alderman, Sir George Garrett, Sir George Clarke, Knights and Aldermen, Thomas Andrews, John Foulke, William Gibbs, Richard Chambers, John Foote, John Kendrick, Symond Edmunds, Samuell Avery, John Bide, George Witham, Thomas Viner, and Christopher Packe, be added to all the Ordinances, as Committees and Commissioners, for bringing in all Arrears and Assessments upon the City of London, for the better carrying on those Services."

Order for 900 l. for indigent Persons.

"Ordered, by the Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament, That the Sum of Nine Hundred Pounds, remaining at Weavers Hall, Part of the Forty-two Thousand Pounds, raised by an Ordinance of Third of June, 1647, be borrowed and secured, and re-paid out of the First Monies of the Ten Thousand Pounds formerly charged upon the Receipts at Gouldsmiths Hall, and assigned to the Relief of poor indigent Persons; and that the said Sum of Nine Hundred Pounds be paid unto Mr. Greenhill or Mr. Pocock, Treasurers appointed by former Ordinance for Officers, to be distributed according to the former Orders made to the said Treasurers; and the Treasurers at Weavers Hall are hereby required to issue forth and pay the said Nine Hundred Pounds to the said Treasurers, to be disposed as aforesaid; and that the Acquittance of the said Treasurers, or One of them, shall be a sufficient Warrant and Discharge to the Treasurers at Weavers Hall, for the Payment of the said Sum of Nine Hundred Pounds, accordingly."

Ordered, That Doctor Heath give Institution and Induction unto Thomas Owen Clerk, Master of Arts, unto the Rectory of Rauvisnath, in Com. Pembrook, void by the Cession of the last Incumbent; salvo Jure cujuscunque: Presentation under the Great Seal.
