	(f. 6.) William de Witlesei, B.C.L. archdeacon of Huntingdon, nephew of the archbishop of Canterbury. Whereas the pope gave him the church of Patrington, in the diocese of York, on 5 Id. Mar. an. 9, after which he petitioned for it; he prays for provision of the same under the said date, and for dispensation to hold it, together with the archdeaconry and other benefices to be named by him in the papal chancery. 	(f. 15d.) William, bishop of Winchester. On behalf of John de Nubbeleye, rector of Alresford, for the provostship of the chapel of St. Elizabeth, in which there is a certain number of scholar clerks, and for dispensation to hold the same, together with Alresford, the income of the chapel being too small to be held by itself; notwithstanding that he has a canonry and prebend of Romesey. 	(f. 16d.) John Uppehulle, bachelor of civil and canon law. For the canonry and prebend of Wilton, void by the death of John called ‘Batheman,’ of Vienne; the pope having given to Uppehulle the church of Bishopston, which grant is useless; and notwithstanding that John Vyse accepted the said canonry and prebend by virtue of a papal grant, and obtained confirmation of the same, but did not obtain possession before his death. 	(f. 17.) Mary de Sancto Paulo, countess of Pembroke, and the abbess and convent of Deney, of the order of St. Clare, in the diocese of Ely. Signification that the countess built and endowed the said house and removed them to it from Waterbeche, the abbess and greater part of the convent consenting, while some sisters of Waterbeche left there to take care of it received others without licence of the abbess, and refused to move to Deney, but by authority of the ordinary were reduced to obedience, all the sisters consenting to the translation, and agreeing to remain at Deney, except sixteen. The countess and abbess and convent therefore pray the pope to confirm the said foundation and translation, and to decree that the abbess and convent shall not dwell elsewhere without special papal licence. Richard Radulphi, M.A. scholar in theology, of the diocese of Armagh, for reservation of the prebend of Howeliston in Emly, on its voidance by the consecration of John de Whitecote, bishop elect of Cloyne; notwithstanding that he expects a benefice in the gift of the bishop of Meath. 	(f. 33d.) King Edward. Whereas, on the voidance of the treasurership of York by the death of Francis Orsini (de Ursinis), papal notary, provision was made of it to Anibaldus, bishop of Tusculum, who died before obtaining possession of it, he prays the pope to give it to his clerk, John de Wynwyk. Whereas the pope, in signing the exemption prayed for by the bishop of Lincoln for himself and members of his household, restricted it, as John XXII. did that granted to the bishop of Exeter, the pope is prayed to decree that the said exemption be not further extended to the prejudice of the papal camera. Let letters be written in the terms of the concession, defining the limits of the exemption, and such letters are to have force. Avignon, 13 Kal. July.

	Ibid. Nicholas de Otterbourn, knight, master of the king's infants. On behalf of John de Cromwelle, M.A. son of Ralph de Cromwelle, the knight and baron, who, in the campaign against the Turks, did, together with Martin Zacharie, build the castle of Smirna, and associated with him seven English knights, and other armed men, for a canonry of Lincoln, with expectation of a prebend; notwithstanding that he has a church in the diocese of York. On behalf of his chancellor, John de Welbourn, who has for two years held the canonry and prebend of Hustewait, in York, for provision of the same, seeing that they were specially reserved, and for remission of fruits received, for which he is ready to pay 200 gold florins to the Holy Land subsidy. 	Ibid. The prior and convent of Spalding. A great part of their possessions is situated between streams of fresh (recentis) water and the sea, so that they suffer much from inundations, and that their monastery, which was begun on a great scale, is very costly, so that they are burdened with debts and the duties of hospitality; they therefore pray for the appropriation of the church of Gibbetey, otherwise called ‘Sibbesey,’ of their patronage, value 73 marks, besides a pension of 13 marks; a portion of 30 marks being reserved for a vicar to be instituted by the archbishop of Canterbury. For faculty to the aforesaid archbishop to receive from Richard de Badewe his resignation of the rectory of Somersham, and to make provision of it to Master William de Wittlesey, their councillor, bachelor of civil and canon law, who has the archdeaconry of Lincoln and three other benefices, inducting him into the same; intimation being duly given within six days to the papal nuncio in England. Signification that the pope granted a dispensation to Alexander, son of Ralph de Neville, knight and baron, then in his fifteenth year, so as to hold a benefice with cure of souls, and that Alexander thereupon obtained the church of Aykeskarth, in the diocese of York; he therefore prays for a further dispensation to the said Alexander, now in his nineteenth year, to hold two benefices, with cure of souls, and to exchange the same. 	(f. 58d.) Henry, earl of Lancaster. For a portable altar, at which his chaplain may celebrate divine offices in presence of himself, his wife, children, and household, and before dawn, and in places subject to interdict, and may administer to the same the sacraments of penance, confession, and the eucharist. He may have the portable altar for himself and his wife, and divine offices may be celebrated before dawn and in places under an interdict. Avignon, 2 Non. July.

	Ibid. David de Mara, of the diocese of Aberdeen, M.A. who, for eight years has studied civil and canon law. For the church of Connet, in the diocese of Aberdeen, void by the death of Master Thomas de Kinnimond, papal chaplain; notwithstanding that he has a canonry and prebend of Aberdeen, and the treasurership of Moray. 	(f. 62d.) Gilbert de Bruera, dean of St. Paul's, London, canon and prebendary of Edingdon in Romsey, canon and prebendary of Haselbere in Wells, and John de Letch, rector of Haregh in the diocese of London, of the jurisdiction and patronage of the archbishop of Canterbury, and chaplain without cure of Boknefeld and Neustede in the diccese of Canterbury. That the said Gilbert, who is obliged to constant residence in the city of London, which on account of the smallness of his income as dean, and the daily concourse of men, is burdensome, and the said John, may exchange their benefices, that is to say the aforesaid canonries and prebends, and the aforesaid church; the church and chapel being near to the deanery, so that the dean may be able to support his decanal dignity, and put a vicar in the church. To be done by the nuncio in England, with power to grant the necessary dispensations. Avignon, 2 Id. July.
	(f. 63.) John, archbishop of Dublin. Touching the mandate to the archbishop of Cashel, and Richard, then elect, now archbishop of Armagh, on the petition of Richard, bishop of Ossory, to make enquiry as to certain heretics, who, as the bishop asserts, had fled from his diocese and stayed in Dublin, where they were cherished by Alexander, late archbishop, and to seize them and others tainted with heresy. The pope is prayed to revoke the tenour of the same, inasmuch as John, archbishop of Dublin, is himself proceeding against the heretics. Let the archbishop take over the process as it is, and complete it in such a way that no fault may be found with him. Avignon, 2 Id. July.
	(f. 63d.) John de Bennebury, of the diocese of Winchester. Whereas there was a question between John Croun, of the diocese of Exeter, and Edmund Chynham, possessor of the church of Laverstoke in the diocese of Winchester, value 15l. touching the same, and when the cause was successively committed to Alioctus de Narnia and Bernard de Caulasone, auditors of the sacred palace, Bernard gave sentence in favour of John, and ordered Edmund to be removed, condemning him in fruits received since the beginning of the suit, and in costs of the same, nevertheless John died at the Roman court before the sentence could be executed. Bennebury therefore, who is in his twenty-first year, prays for surrogation to the deceased Croun, and for execution of the sentence in his favour, and also for dispensation on account of his age. 	(f. 64d.) Walter de Gnoushale, canon of Dublin. He was dispensed on account of illegitimacy so as to be ordained and hold a benefice, and then further dispensed so as to hold three benefices and exchange them, and latterly so as to hold dignities short of the episcopate. He now prays for a further dispensation to accept any benefices that may be offered to him, notwithstanding that he has a canonry and prebend of Dublin, and the treasurership with a canonry and prebend of Leighlin. On behalf of Richard de Norwico, rector of Adesham, his treasurer, and for Matthew de Assheton, rector of Shutlindon in the diocese of Lincoln, clerk of his privy seal; also William, earl of Huntingdon, on behalf of Thomas de Merston, rector of Hethill in the diocese of Norwich, his secretary, and Hugh de Appelby, remembrancer of the exchequer, who has a church to be named in the papal chancery, that each of them may be dispensed so as to hold an additional benefice, and resign or exchange the same.
