Doorkeepers c. 1786-1870
The office of Doorkeeper, or Door Porter, was probably created in 1786. (fn. 1) The salary, payable out of the contingent fund, was £67 6s. in 1792. It was increased to £94 12s. in 1800. (fn. 2) The office was placed on the establishment in 1822. (fn. 3) The salary was increased to £100 in 1841. (fn. 4)
In 1826 a salary of £50, payable out of the contingent fund, was made available to an Assistant, or Extra, Doorkeeper. (fn. 5) The office was placed on the establishment in 1854. (fn. 6) The salary was increased to £80 in 1841 and to £100 in 1860. (fn. 7)
