SNOWSHILL

(20 miles N.N.E. of Cirencester)

(1) Roman Road, Ryknild Street (SP 13363300–SP 13083376), is seen in the form of crop-marks extending N.N.W. in a straight line for ⅓ mile across the indented E. shoulder of Snowshill Hill, above and below the 800-ft. contour. The alignment continues that noted in Bourton-on-the Hill (1) to S.E., and it also continues to N.W., where it forms the county boundary with Worcestershire (Chipping Campden (1)). For 300 yds. S. of the county boundary all traces of the road have been obscured by modern tree-planting, but the agger appears in the same alignment under a wall on the boundary (SP 13083376).
