The third volume of the Victoria History of the County of Buckingham was so far advanced when the work on it fell into abeyance on the outbreak of war, that it has been found necessary to publish the volume without bringing the contents up to date. In expressing his indebtedness to all those who have assisted in the preparation of this work, the Editor has to deplore the deaths of several members of his staff and other helpers who have died, some on the battlefield, during the decade that has elapsed since the work on the volume ceased.
