NONCONFORMITY

Two dissenters were mentioned in 1676 (fn. 1) but none in the 18th century. There was never any meeting house in the village, although a few Methodists were reported in 1807 and one Independent family in 1825. (fn. 2) Of some 12 'hereditary dissenters' in the late 19th century, including in 1897 one Methodist preacher, most went occasionally to church. (fn. 3)
