Will of John Leek esquire, bequeathing his manor of Leek etc. and the advowson of the moiety of Leverton church to Rose his wife for her life, with successive remainders to Alexander, Roger and John his sons, should they die without male issue: to any daughters subsequently born, and then to Our Lady's Guild at Boston, who shall find two priests to pray for the souls of himself, Rose, and their family: and after the decease of his uncle Thomas Pedwardyne, the said Rose to have 'Edmund Rygby place' in Leek, with eight acres of land for term of her life, with remainders as above: and also the manor of Sybbesey co. Lincoln, yet in the hands of the feoffees of Alexander his father, i.e. John Marcham of Sedbroke, John Stanhope of Rampton and Thomas Pedwardyne of Crowland, until forty marks be paid to Simon Gybthorpe of Thorpe next Waynflete; and 13l. 19s. 4d. to Adhelard Dandyson of Leek, which the said Alexander bequeathed to Katherine wife of Thomas Gybthorpe and Margaret wife of the said Adhelard for their marriages. And Rose shall pay for Sybbesey manor certain debts owing to William Yorke, Robert Gretham, Aleyn Hobard of London and William Tymer of Boston within the above remainders and then to John son of Thomas Gybthorpe, to find yearly a priest for ten years, five at Leek or five at Sybbesey to pray for their souls. And Alexander shall have his lordship of Stenygot with the above remainders and Rose shall be sole executrix of this will and shall pay the said John's debts and the marriage of Alexander her son. April 16. Will of Ralph Penne, gentleman of Aldenham co. Hertford, enjoining that his feoffees shall stand enfeoffed in all lands and tenements, rents, reversions and services in that county to make estate of the same to him of his inheritance of Alice Brayne his mother; i.e. the manors of Pennys and Pygotts: two gardens in Tytestrete, Bocattes Mede, the Great Whittes, Ilsow, Power in the Wyse, Kyngescroftes, Newhall, Eydones, Wassys, Willes Gilles, Magottes Mede and Tytemede, to perform his said will: to set in repair the lands called 'Sperlynge': to mortise a chantry to pray for his soul etc. in the parish church of Aldenham, with eleven marks for an obit, bread and wine; or if this shall not suffice, to sell the wood. And Eydons and Newhall shall pertain to the chantry, value ten marks. And John Boteler and Thomas Leventhorpe shall hold the remainder of the lands and keep Saunder his son till he come of age and then they shall make him a lawful estate of the same; with remainder if he die without issue after deduction of a gift of ten marks a year to them, to Alice Taverner and her heirs who shall bear the name of Penne, with remainder of the ten marks, after the deaths of John Boteler and Thomas Leventhorpe, who with John Nele and John Warner shall be his executors; and William Swanwyke his attorney shall pay his debts; and the overseers of his testament shall be Thomas Gilbert doctor of divinity and vicar of Aldenham, Sir John Verney, William Brayne and Nicholas Leventhorpe gentlemen: and all the deeds and evidences concerning the said lords shall be delivered to his executors. Indenture between Christopher Hanyngton gentleman and Robert Yarum, mercer of London, and Margaret his wife, late wife of William Baybrok, alderman of the same, executors of his will, whereby Christopher renounced execution thereof, and released all his interest therein to Robert and Margaret; which he will do before any judge: and he will suffer them or their assigns, to take, levy, retain and dispose of all goods, rents and chattels without lett: and he will avow at their cost all manner of suits and actions concerning the execution of the testament in any court; and will make them satisfaction within fourteen days, for any discharge or acquittance to any person in extinguishing debts due by way of executory: and will not in any action brought against him as executor, pledge any other matter other than Margaret and Robert shall advise, so that they bear his costs and damages on that behalf. And where one Hugh Hunt gentleman is enfeoffed in a cottage called the 'Pighhill' in Newenton co. Kent by Christopher to his use, he will for a certain sum agree that Hugh shall be enfeoffed to their use, unless Joan Hakedy or her heirs recover it against them by lawful process. And Robert and Margaret agree that they will discharge Christopher against Alexander Clyfford of a bond of 40l. to perform the award of John Bamme, Robert Martyn and William Heed, on the title of certain rents of a tenement in Newenton called 'Levenottes', and against all other persons and will pay costs and charges on his behalf within fourteen days. Moreover Robert and Margaret grant to Christopher that within ten years, they will cause a freeman of the city of London to devise lands and tenements therein to the yearly value of 20l. to the parson of St. Margaret Briggestrete for evermore upon the decease of William Baybrok to hold an obit for the said William's soul and those of his friends and benefactors by the priests thereof and to dispose of the remnant of the 20l. only, yearly in alms in that parish to pray for his soul. And Robert and Margaret will perform faithfully the last will of the said William Baybrok: and all things contained in this present writing will be performed on the interpretation of Guy Fairfax one of the king's serjeants, William Huse the king's attorney, William Huddesfeld and William Donyngton: and to the grants and covenants aforesaid Christopher binds himself to the said Margaret and Robert in 40l. and they in like manner to him by a bond in 100l.; and to each part of the indentures the two parties have set their seals interchangeably. Brian Talbot esquire, to John Colepeper knight. Bond in 1000 marks, payable on St. Andrew's Day next, or levied etc. in Lincolnshire.
Condition, that if the said Brian and Katherine his wife and any having interest on their behalf in the manors of Herdeshull, Anceley and Monwode co. Warwick and Assheyne co. Northampton stand to the arbitrament of Thomas Billyng chief justice of pleas coram rege and of Thomas Bryan chief justice of the Common Bench, arbitrators chosen between the parties in all suits and demands between them pending, and carry out their judgement concerning the said manors if delivered before the said feast, and in nowise interfere in the same from October 13 to that time, but permit Sir John Colepepir to enjoy the possession of the said manors without the rents in the meantime and keep the peace towards him and his servants, this recognisance shall be voided etc.

Condition, that if John Colepepir obey the award of the above Thomas Billyng and Thomas Bryan, and between 13 October and St. Andrew's Day, neither receive nor exact rents from the tenants in the above manors, nor cut down nor sell trees during that time, possession of the manors with housebote, firebote, heggebote, cartebote, ploughbote, feldebote and heybote being alone reserved to him, and keep the peace in the meantime towards the said Brian and his servants, this recognisance shall be voided etc.

Edward by the Grace of God, King etc. Know ye that to acquit the obligation (sic) in which our dear cousin Louis of France is bound to us in the sum of 20,000 crowns by letters patent signed by his hand, our dear cousin has paid and delivered the same in the Tower of London, by the hands of Noel le Barge, treasurer of his wars: wherewith we hold ourselves well content and acquit our said cousin of the sum, and have cancelled the obligation and returned it to the said treasurer as quit.
