John de Neuwerke now prior of Holy Trinity Newstede upon Ancolne and the convent on the one part, and Robert atte Welle, John Wryght of Cadenay, John Urry, John Danby, William Dawet, Robert Carter, John Folnetby, John Outy, John Norman of Housum, Robert Sigwarde, Nigel Belle, Richard atte Kirke, John Terre, William Westiby, William Dalby, William Gossone, Adam Chaumpeney, Adam de Grene, Robert Hamunde, Ralph Wryght, Ralph Taillour, John Warde, Richard Flynt, Joan de Baumburgh, Richard de Barton, William Wryght of Cadeney, Ralph Jenessone, Adam Oustiby, Adam Westiby and other their tenants of the manor of Cadeneyhousum on the other part. Indenture of accord, witnessing that whereas strife and debate having arisen between William de Prestwolde formerly prior and the convent and their tenants of the said manor touching divers customs and services to that manor pertaining of old time, the same were reformed by John de Waltham late bishop of Salisbury and other arbitrators, that whereas like strife has arisen between the now prior and convent and their said tenants touching divers customs, rents, reapings of corn, ploughings of lands of the prior and convent at divers times of the year in the territory of Cadeneyhousum, services, complaints etc., fearing the destruction of their goods, by mutual assent and consent the parties submitted to the award of Gerard de Sothille and Richard Haunsarde knights and of such as they joined with them for the purpose, that they did join with them men of ability in the law of England, of wisdom and discretion, did summon the parties before them on 4 September 8 Henry IV in the cathedral church of St. Mary Lincoln, and having heard arguments on either side did award that the prior and convent and their successors shall henceforward take of the said tenants and their heirs 60s. a year for the reapings and ploughings aforesaid, according to a writing indented by the said prior produced (text follows), made between the prior and convent on the one part and William Outy, John son of Geoffrey, John Baru, John atte Kirke, Adam Wryght, Robert atte Welle, John Fissher, John Clerke, John Roke, Thomas Fayrbarne, John son of Robert, William Marsshall, Adam Champeney, John Wyse, Richard Smyth of Appelby, William Northiby, John Bamburgh, William Gossoun, Robert Westiby, Ralph Wryght, John Warde and all other the men and tenants of the said manor, which is of the ancient demesne of the crown, on the other part, whereby it was witnessed that, strife and debate having arisen touching divers customs and services accustomed to be performed by the tenants from the foundation of the priory, namely reapings in autumn and ploughings at divers times of the year, or payment of 6d. in default of every reaping and 12d. of every ploughing, the parties submitted to the award of Sir John de Waltham clerk, then [keeper] of the rolls in chancery and archdeacon of Richemunde, Sir John Worth knight steward of the princess the king's mother, Sir Richard Ravenscher archdeacon of Lincoln, Sir William de Skipwith knight and justice of the king, Sir John Cary and Sir William de Fulburne clerk, that having examined the parties, and the evidences on both sides, summoning other men of power, learned in the law, on 6 February 8 Richard II in the priory of the Carmelites London the arbitrators awarded that all customs and services due from the forefathers of the tenants from the foundation of the priory were to be by the tenants performed, except that for the reapings and ploughings aforesaid they and their heirs should pay thence forward 60s. a year, to be levied by the bailiffs of boonworks of the office of the fee, and that this modification and award the prior and convent for themselves and their successors, and the said tenants for themselves and their heirs and all other tenants of the manor promised to keep, the prior and convent covenanting that no claim should in future be made upon the tenants for such reapings and ploughings, and the men and tenants that in case of default in payment of the said 60s., after fifteen days it shall be lawful to distrain them by all their goods and chattels within the county of Lincoln for arrears, damages and costs. Proviso that neither the now tenants aforesaid nor such as will abide by and fulfil the award of the said Gerard and Richard shall henceforward be troubled save for the money demanded for their own tenements in lieu of the said reapings and ploughings, but they shall not be impeached by the prior and convent or by their successors for a proportion of the said 60s. upon lands which are come to the hands of the prior and convent and of their predecessors after the date of the former indenture, and for such as are in the hands of other tenants who will stand to the award of the said Gerard and Richard, which award the prior and convent, for themselves and their successors, and the now tenants above named, for themselves and their heirs, have promised to keep; and this indenture shall before Christmas next be enrolled in chancery, the cost being equally divided between the parties. Richard son of Geoffrey Reynald of Edmescote, otherwise called Richard Ryvelle, otherwise Richard son of Joan daughter of William Ryvelle, to Robert Huggeforde esquire and Joyce his wife and to the heirs and assigns of the said Robert. Quitclaim with warranty of the whole manor of Edmescote otherwise Edlescote co. Warrewyk, and of all lands, rents, reversions and services in the towns and fields of Edmescote and Mulverton, late of William Ryvelle, whereof Thomas Knyght clerk, John Lee of Fulbroke, Thomas Ryvelle of Edmescote and William Tayllour of Warrewyk lately made a feoffment to the said Robert and Joyce. Memorandum of a mainprise under a pain of 40l., made in chancery 5 May this year by William Poun, William Mone 'brewer,' William atte Wode 'brewer' and Thomas Grene 'brewer' for Nicholas Bowyer of London by 'Luddegate,' and of an undertaking by him under a pain of 100l., that he shall do or procure no hurt or harm to brother John Tylle, to any of the brethren his fellows or any of the people.
Memorandum of a mainprise under a pain of 1,000 marks, made in chancery 1 May this year by Lawrence Hampton 'mercer,' Thomas Turnour 'mercer' and Philip de Albertino, to have Dominicus Cachin in chancery from day to day until from the court dismissed.

Condition, that Simon Felbrigge, William Burgate, Robert Morley, Robert Tye knights, William Skrene, John Rokewode, Ralph Chamberlayn and Edmund Oldehalle, who by demise of Thomas Erpyngham, John Chircheman, John Sturmyn, John Gurnay and James Billyngforde have taken the manors of Banham Marchall and Greyes and a moiety of the manor of Bekhalle co. Norffolk to farm for twenty years from Michaelmas last at a rent of 60l. payable in the abbey church of Berkynge, shall there truly pay the same at every term or within one month after; and that if Dame Joan late the wife of Sir Thomas de Felton and Sibyl abbess of Berkynge shall die within that term, the said farmers shall pay the same until Michaelmas next after the death of the longest liver.

John abbot of Wellebeke in the diocese of York and the convent to Sir Robert Stretton canon of Lychefelde. Gift for life of a yearly pension of 50l., in return for manifold aid and benefits, and of 6 ells of woollen cloth for his use, price 40d. an ell with furring to the same agreeable to so great a man, 5 ells for his esquire of rayed cloth price 2s. 4d. an ell, and for his yeoman or servant 4 ells price 2s. an ell, all issuing from their lands at Cukenay, Dukmanton, Wynfelde and Newbolde cos. Notyngham and Derby and to be received in the cathedral church of Lychefelde, the first term of payment to begin at Michaelmas next, with power to distrain in their said lands and all their manors and tenements in the said counties; and to put him in possession thereof they have paid him 12d. Memorandum of a mainprise body for body and under a pain of 200l., made in chancery 10 May this year by William Jurdaun 'taillour' and Geoffrey Rose, both of London, to have John Pynell a 'Portugaler' of Lussheboun there from day to day until dismissed from the court, in order to answer Simon Benfelde and other men of Shorham.

John Prendergest knight and Beatrice his wife to Eleanor who was wife of Nicholas Dagworth knight, her heirs and assigns. Demise with warranty of the estate which the said John and Beatrice have in right of the said Beatrice for her life in the manor of Hundmunby co. York with reversion to the said Eleanor and to Alice wife of Philip Ingelfolde daughters of Beatrice, and surrender of the manor, subject to a yearly rent of 13l. 6s. 8d. during the life of the said Beatrice, payment beginning at Martinmas next, with covenant that they may enter again and enjoy the same in their first estate if the rent be one quarter in arrear and sufficient distress may not be had; and condition that if in time to come the value of the manor shall be less than 20 marks a year, the said Eleanor shall have due allowance. Richard Kyngeston warden of the king's free chapel of Wyndesore and the canons thereof to John Crukerne clerk and his assigns. Gift for life, for the advantage of the chapel, of a yearly rent of 20l. to be taken of the manor of Evere co. Bukingham, payable by the warden and canons or by their attorney at New Sarum co. Wiltesir in the cathedral church of St. Mary in presence of the dean or subdean or one of the canons thereof, with proviso that the said John shall there give an acquittance for every term, without which they may not allege payment: and covenant for defeasance of that rent upon condition that the warden and canons shall present him to a church or benefice this side Trent, not being in Wales or the march of Wales or in the counties of Salop, Stafford, Hereford or Derby, not a vicarage or benefice in dispute, that it shall be of the value of 40 marks a year to demise to farm without fraud or covin over and above all charges ordinary and extraordinary and all reprises, discharged of all provisors and every other claim, that they shall submit such presentation to the chancellor for the time being, and he shall send a writ to the sheriff of Somerset for the time being directing him to make proclamation on a Saturday at Mulverton in full market calling upon the said John or his proctor to appear before the chancellor within two months to accept such church or benefice, or to shew cause wherefore he ought not to accept it, that proclamation shall be made accordingly, that if he can shew no cause, he shall accept the same, be admitted, instituted and inducted, and that the benefice shall then be of the value aforesaid. Proviso that if without fraud or covin the ordinary will not admit and institute him, or if after his induction he shall be evicted by reason of any title or matter before his presentation or induction, the rent shall be paid him for life, that if he may shew reasonable cause for not accepting the benefice the warden and canons are bound to pay him 10 marks for his travail and costs, and that if he be evicted and shall be presented or collated by them or another at their instance to another church or benefice, and shall accept or shew cause as aforesaid, the rent shall be extinguished, subject to a like proviso and pain in case of his eviction. Dated the morrow of the Annunciation 9 Henry IV.
