Michael de la Pole earl of Suffolk, Robert Bolton clerk and Roger Cavendysshe to John Cornwaile knight. Recognisance for 400l. to be levied in default of payment of his lands and chattels in the city of London.

Thomas Rempston knight to Sir Richard Waldegrave the father, Sir Richard his son, Richard Wythermersshe and Richard Mauncelle clerk. Acknowledgment that the conditions in indentures made between the said Thomas, Sir John de Leeke, William de Leeke of Skreventon, Henry Clerke and Richard Wakefelde of the one part and Sir Richard and the others of the other part, under which they gave a bond in 2,000l. to the said Thomas and Simon de Leeke, are by them fulfilled, and release of all actions and demands by force of the bond and indentures aforesaid. Suffolk and the lands, tenements, rents and services in the city of London which they have by feoffment of the said Richard and of Richard Mauncelle clerk, upon condition that if the said Thomas, John de Leek knight, Simon de Leek, William de Leek, Henry Clerke and Richard Wakefeld, their heirs or assigns shall in time to come be by him or any of his heirs impleaded or thrust out of the manor or advowson of Brendebroughton co. Lincoln, or if the manors of Polstede etc. and lands etc. aforesaid shall not descend lineally to his heirs and from heir to heir without demise of parcel or the whole thereof, or if those manors etc. shall be encumbered or charged by statute merchant, recognisance, rent charge or annuity (except 10 marks upon 'Leveneyhalle'), and the same shall not be discharged within one half year after notice given, it shall be lawful for the said Thomas, Roger, John and Richard Wakefeld again to enter the manors, advowson, lands etc. hereby demised, and to hold and enjoy the same in their first estate, to them and the heirs and assigns of the said Thomas, this charter notwithstanding. Request and order to take again and cancel their letters patent to John Stygeyn concerning a maintenance which he has in that priory at the command of King Edward III, if he will give them up to be cancelled, to admit the said John and John Ayscowe the king's serjeant to their house, and minister to them for life and to the longer liver such maintenance as Walter Stodeley had in his life time, making and delivering to them letters patent under the common seal of the house with mention of what they shall take, and writing again by the bearer what they will do; as John Stygeyn is minded to demise his estate therein, and give up the said letters, to the end that he and John Ayscowe may together have it, and at their petition the king has granted the same to them. Order to give Richard bishop of Salisbury notice to be in chancery in the quinzaine of St. Hilary next in order to shew cause wherefore there ought not be a stay pending the appeal of Richard Rysshede chaplain, John Collehouse, Thomas Ledhale, William Hypper, Thomas Petre, Robert Northerne and Ralph Cooke of Clake of his diocese, writ of supersedeas, and order by mainprise of Edmund Dauntesey, William Lynde of Wiltesir, James de la Mare of Hertfordshire and James Lynde of Oxfordshire to set the appellants free, if taken; as at the request of the bishop, signifying that by his authority as ordinary they were all excommunicated for contumacy, not willing to be justified by censure of the church, the king ordered the sheriff to justify the said chaplain and the others by their bodies until they should content holy church for their contempt and wrongdoing; but they have appealed to the papal see, and are purposed to prosecute their appeal, and the king has given them the day aforesaid; and Edmund Dauntesey and the others have mainperned in chancery to have them there at that day, and that they shall prosecute their appeal.

Grant indented of a yearly rent of 100 marks, to be taken of all the manors, lands etc. which the grantors have by feoffment of Sir Richard Waldegrave knight the father in Suffolk, Essex, Northamptonshire and the city of London, upon condition that the same shall be in suspense so long as the manors of Polstede and 'Newelandhalle,' the advowson of Polstede church, the manor of 'Leveneyhalle' co. Suffolk and the lands, rents and services in the city of London which the grantors have by feoffment of Sir Richard the father, sometime of Sir Robert Launde goldsmith of London, shall descend lineally to the heirs of Sir Richard in fee simple, and from heir to heir, not encumbered or charged by statute merchant, recognisance, rent charge or annuity (except 10 marks upon 'Leveneyhalle'), or that any such charge be discharged within half a year after notice given, and upon condition that the said Thomas, John de Leeke knight, Simon de Leeke, William de Leeke, Henry Clerke and Richard Wakefelde, their heirs or assigns, shall not be impleaded or thrust out of the manor or advowson of Brentbroughton. Writ of supersedeas omnino in respect of any process against John Tauke, appointed with others to make inquisition concerning concealments, misprisions and extortions committed by the late collectors and controllers of customs and subsidies, their controllers and the alnagers in Surrey and Sussex by colour of their offices, and all goods and chattels of the late king and of others who forfeited to the king which to him pertain and are from him concealed, by whom and how, and concerning all the circumstances, but order to proceed against others who did meddle therein; as that commission came never to the hands of the said John, as he has made oath in chancery.
To the same. Like writ in favour of John Tauke, by the late king appointed with others a justice to make inquisition by whose default the walls, dikes, gutters, sewers, bridges, causeways and weirs between Ifelde and the sea upon the river of Lewes, and between Pulberowe ferry and the sea upon the river of Arundell on either side of those rivers were burst and broken, and to hear and determine the same.

Like writ, mutatis mutandis, in favour of Thomas Somercotes, Salomon Fresthorp and John Bollowe, appointed to make inquisition in Hertfordshire and Essex, by whom the goods and chattels of John Asshewy late the king's receiver there, who was when receiver indebted to the king in divers sums of money as the ministers of the duchy of Lancastre have borne witness, were taken, carried away and eloigned without the lordship and jurisdiction of the duchy, when and how, to whose hands the same came, in whose they were, and to what sum they amounted, and by indenture to take such goods and safe keep them until the king should be by John Asshewy contented of the said debts; as those sums were due to the king as duke of Lancastre, and payment has been made at the receipt of the duchy, as John Leventhorp the king's esquire, receiver general of the duchy, has borne witness in chancery.
Memorandum of a mainprise under a pain of 40l., made in chancery [ (fn. 1) ] this year by William Broun, Richard Wydiforde and Roger Dalyngryche of Berkshire and Richard Tumbrell of Wiltesir for John Meremulle, that he shall do or procure no hurt or harm to Guy Bracy or any of the people.
Memorandum of a like mainprise, mutatis mutandis, under a pain of 300l., made 21 November by Edmund Pyne and John Wotton of Devon, Roger Seymour and Matthew Coker of Somerset for Richard Cheddre, and of an undertaking by him under the same pain, in regard to Richard bishop of Salisbury, his ministers or servants, or any of the people.

Memorandum of a mainprise under a pain of 100 marks, made in chancery 6 November this year by John Dautrey and John Vyncent of Sussex, John Holyngbourne of Surrey and Richard Bolt of the county of Suthampton for Thomas Haberger, and of an undertaking by him under a pain of 200 marks, that he shall do no hurt or harm to the bishop of Cicestre, his men or servants, shall not fire the bishop's houses, nor by the strong hand with violence or contrary to the law cast down a lodge at 'Coldewaltham' within the bishop's warren.
