Feb. 16.
Westminster.
To the escheator in the county of Suthampton. Order in presence of the next friends of Theobald Gorges, or of their attorneys, to assign dower to Florence who was wife of John son and heir of Thomas Gorges, and the issues thereof taken since 16 April 3 Henry V, on which date the king ordered the then escheator, in presence of the next friends of the said Theobald, brother and heir of the said John who died within age in ward of the king, or of their attorneys, to assign her dower; as the late escheator was removed from office before the former writ might be executed.
Feb. 20.
Westminster.
To the escheator in Norffolk. Order to give John son and heir of Constantine de Clyfton seisin of his father's lands; as he proved his age before Thomas Hethe late escheator, and the king has taken his homage and fealty. [See p.s. 777.]
Like writs to the escheators in Essex and Sussex.
Feb. 23.
Westminster.
To the treasurer and the barons of the exchequer. Order not to trouble Walter son and heir of Elizabeth who was wife of John Dauntesey knight, nor suffer him to be troubled for his homage; as upon proof of his age before the then escheator in Wiltesir, for a fine paid in the hanaper the king respited his homage for the lands of his heritage which the said John held by the courtesy of England after the death of the said Elizabeth, and ordered livery thereof to be given him, and for a fine likewise paid respited to a day now past the homages of Robert Langeforde, son of Anne one of the daughters of John Beverlee, and of the said Walter, by name of Walter Daundesey knight son of Elizabeth the other daughter, being cousins and heirs of John Beverlee, for their purparties of the lands of their heritage held in dower after his death by Amice who was wife of Robert Bardolf, and of those held in chief by the said John and Amice at their deaths, commanding livery thereof to be given them; and the king has taken the homage of the said Walter. To the collectors of customs and subsidies in the port of St. Botolphs town. Order, for particular causes now moving the king, to pay to Richard Grey of Codenore 500l. according to a tally levied at the receipt of the exchequer, notwithstanding the late writ whereby the king ordered them to pay or deliver no sums of money of the custom and subsidy arising to any person by colour of any command of the king to them then or thereafter addressed, or of any assignment or other cause whatsoever, until further order. Westminster.
To the mayor and sheriff of Bristol. Order to dearrest a balinger called 'le Julian' of Plymmouth, arrested at command of the king, and to suffer Nicholas Mallande master thereof to pass therewith to Plymmouth, any previous arrest notwithstanding; as Richard Trenode, John Vielle, both of Bristol, and John Thorp have mainperned in chancery, under pain of the value of the balinger and of 100l., that the master shall be therewith at Suthampton in the quinzaine of Easter next, ready to serve the king in his expedition over sea, so that the same be not meantime lost by stress of weather or other accident.

To the receivers, bailiffs, farmers or other the occupiers of the manor and soke of Kirton in Lyndesey, or other the king's officers or ministers there for the time being. Order during the life of Thomas Erpyngham the king's knight to pay to Henry archbishop of Canterbury, Henry bishop of Winchester, Thomas bishop of Durham, Thomas duke of Exeter, Ralph earl of Westmerland, Henry Fitz Hugh, Walter Hungerford knight, John Wodehous and John de Leventhorp esquires 100l. a year, which by letters patent of 14 December 3 Henry V the king granted to them, the duke of Exeter being then earl of Dorset, and to Roger Leche knight and Hugh Mortymer esquire both now deceased, of the said manor and soke [and] of the issues and profits thereof from Michaelmas then last during the life of Thomas Erpyngham, and to pay them the arrears thereof since that feast, notwithstanding that therein is no express mention of property which the grantees then had by gifts and grants of the king or of former kings, and notwithstanding any ordinance or statute to the contrary.

To the mayor and bailiffs of Wynchelse. Order to dearrest a ship called the 'Cristofre' of Hamburgh in Almain laded with wine of la Rochelle, which by command of the king is under arrest in the port of Wynchelse, suffering the master, merchants and seamen to bring the same to London that arrest notwithstanding; as Gobellus Chisener, Bertram Cleyhorst and Albert Lughtebeker merchants of Almain have mainperned in chancery, under a pain of the value of the ship and wine, that the master etc. shall straightway bring the same to London to be unladed.

To the same. Order to dearrest a ship called the 'Sanctus Antonius' of Caminha (de Camino) in Portegal, arrested by command of the king, suffering Statianus de Porto master thereof to pass therewith, any previous arrest notwithstanding; as Richard Style of London 'fysshemonger' has mainperned in chancery, under a pain of the value of the ship and of 100l., that the master shall with all speed bring the same to the port of London, and cause it to be there unladed.
