Westminster.
To the escheator in Kent. Order to give the next friend of Thomas Whetynden the son to whom the heritage may not descend livery of 10l. a year of the farm of the city of Canterbury, and the money thereof taken to keep to the use of the said Thomas until his lawful age; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that at his death Thomas Whetynden held no lands in Kent in chief nor of others, but took to him and his heirs 10l. a year of the said farm, namely a third part of 30l. a year payable 10l. at Easter and 20l. at Michaelmas which, by letters patent produced at that inquisition, King Edward III granted to William son of John Cundy and to his heirs in recompense for the bailiwick of Sandewich, and Thomas Whetynden son of Thomas Whetynden son of the deceased is his cousin and next heir, and of the age of ten years and more. To John Talbot lord Fournyvale, the king's lieutenant of Ireland. Order under the pains hereinafter mentioned to cause Gerard fitz Maurice earl of Kildare, Christopher de Preston and John Bedlewe knights, by him lately arrested and imprisoned within Trym castle, to be brought before the council at Westminster in the quinzaine of St. Hilary next under security for which he will answer, with the cause of their arrest and imprisonment, the earl under a pain of 200l., and the said knights of 100l. each.
