Order to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with a third part of the manor of Grymston and Welhowe, delivering to Edward Hastynges knight any issues thereof taken; as it is found by inquisition, taken before Norman Babyngton late escheator, that Anne who was wife of Hugh Hastynges knight at her death held that third part by endowment of her husband of the heritage of the said Edward his son and heir, and that the same is not held of the king. To the escheator in Norhamptonshire. Order to take the fealties of Henry cardinal of England and bishop of Winchester, Thomas bishop of Durham, Walter Hungerforde knight, John Laurens and John Russell, and to give them livery of third parts of the castle, manor and town of Fodrynghay, the manors of Nassyngton and Yarwell, and the issues thereof taken; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that Edward late duke of York was seised of the said castle, town and manors, that they are held in chief by knight service, that with licence of the king he made a feoffment thereof to Roger Flore of Okham, Peter de Mavan of Gascony, Henry Bracy and John Wykes, all now deceased, the said bishops and others, and to their heirs, that after the duke's death Philippa his wife brought against the feoffees a writ of dower, and recovered a third part of the premises, and that she died seised of an estate for life therein, with reversion to the feoffees and to their heirs; and for 2 marks paid in the hanaper the king has respited until Whitsuntide next their homages due for those third parts and for lands in other counties which the duchess held in dower. Order to give the next friend of the heir to whom the heritage may not descend livery of a croft assarted, and the issues thereof taken, to keep to the heir's use, but to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with three messuages in the town of Suthampton, delivering up any issues of them taken; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that John Dabriggecourt at his death held the said croft in chief by the service of 2s. 3d. a year for all services, and the said messuages of the king in burgage, as the whole town of Suthampton is held, and that Thomas his son is his next heir, and of the age of four years and more. Like order to remove the king's hand from a tenement in the parish of St. Margaret Patyns in Billyngesgate' ward containing two dwelling houses, another tenement in the same parish and in 'Tourestrete' ward with two shops adjacent in front, four dwelling houses thereto annexed and adjacent on the east side, and another tenement in the parish of St. Dunstan in the 'Est' in 'Tourestrete' ward with one shop adjacent and two dwelling houses annexed on the south side; as the king has learned etc. that at his death John Dabryggecourt esquire held the same by gift of William Lynde and others to him and the heirs of his body, and that they are held of the king in free burgage as is all the city of London. Order to take the fealty of the said Agnes, and to give her livery of the manor and advowson of Stratfelde Say, and the issues of that manor taken, but to remove the king's hand etc. from three messuages, a toft, two mills, 220 acres of land, 10 acres of meadow, 20 acres of pasture and 40s. of rent in Stratfeldsay, Haywode, Bromley, Hecfelde and Wattesforde co. Suthampton, a messuage, a toft and 100 acres of arable land in Great Sheperugge co. Wiltesir, delivering to her any issues etc.; as the king has learned by divers inquisitions etc. that at his death John Dabriggecourt held all the premises as jointly enfeoffed with her (as above), and that the said manor and advowson are held in chief by the service of one knight's fee, and the residue of others than the king; and for 40s. paid in the hanaper the king has respited her homage until the feast of St. John Baptist next. Order to take the fealty of Robert Kirkham, and to give him seisin of seven messuages, a grange, a garden, a dovecote, five carucates of land, 4 acres of meadow, 100 acres of furze and heath and 60s. of yearly rent in Blakedoun, Gilburne and Coleton Clavile; as it is found by inquisition, taken before John Jaybyun the late king's escheator, that William Hankeforde knight, Henry Fuleforde, John Gamboun the younger and John Dabernoun were thereof seised, and made a grant of the premises to John Kirkham and Isabel his wife and to the heirs of John Kirkham, that John Kirkham was thereby seised of the same in his demesne as of fee, and the said Isabel as of freehold, that John Kirkham died so seised, and Isabel continued her estate all her life, that she held the premises by knight service of the bishopric of Exeter then in the late king's hand, and died thereof seised, and that after her death the same descended to William Kirkham now deceased, brother and heir of the said John and then within age; and by another inquisition, taken before the escheator, it is found that the same came to the late king's hand by her death and by reason of the said William's nonage, and that Robert Kirkham is his brother and next heir; and he has proved his age before the escheator. Order to the treasurer and barons to account with John Frank the king's clerk, whom by letters patent of 28 October 2 Henry VI the king appointed keeper of the chancery rolls and warden of the house of converted [Jews] London with the wages and fees due and accustomed, or with his attorney, for his wages and fees and those of two chaplains and one clerk serving the house, and the wages of Henry Stratforde, Martin son of Henry Wodestoke, Joan the convert, Alice her daughter and John Durdraught converts of the said house, as used heretofore to be done, allowing him such wages and fees as were allowed heretofore; and order to the treasurer and chamberlains to pay him what shall be found in arrear from 28 October 9 Henry VI, reckoning in that day, to 28 October last. Order to take the fealties of William Mirfelde esquire, John Manyngham of Neulande, Sir Henry Northorp chaplain and John Laverok, and to give them livery of a messuage, 8 acres of land, 2 acres of meadow and 21s. of rent in Stanley, and the issues thereof taken, but to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with other the messuages, mill, land, rent etc. hereinafter mentioned, delivering to them any issues of those taken; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that Oliver Woderofe, tenant by knight service of Richard duke of York a minor in ward of the king, at his death held no lands in Yorkshire of the duke or of any other in demesne nor in service, but was long ago seised of a messuage, 160 acres of land, 8 acres of meadow, a mill and 11s. 8d. of rent in Wolley, a messuage, 40 acres of land, 4 acres of meadow, 6 acres of pasture, 26s. of rent and a rent of ½lb. of pepper in Nocton, four messuages, 150 acres of land, 12 acres of meadow and 10 acres of pasture in Normanton, a messuage and 9 acres of land in Altoft, the messuage, land, meadow and rent in Stanley aforesaid, a messuage with appurtenances in Wakefelde, a messuage, 40 acres of land, 6 acres of meadow, 20 acres of pasture and 1 acre of wood in Chapelthorp, 2s. 11d., of rent in Dartonketilmanthorp, a messuage, 80 acres of land and 12 acres of meadow in Crumwelbothum, 16s. 8d. of rent in Extwisill, a messuage, 50 acres of land, 3 acres of meadow and 20 acres of pasture in Fryklay, two messuages, 18 acres of land, 2 acres of meadow and 8 acres of pasture in Hegholme, two messuages, 15 acres of land, 4 acres of meadow, 10 acres of pasture and 6d. 8d. of rent in Barneby, and by name of Oliver Woderoufe of Wolley gave the same to William Mirfelde and the others, their heirs and assigns, by name of his manor of Wollay and all his lands, rents and services in Wollay, Notton, Kettilmanthorp, Heygholme, Barnbe, Crumwelbothom, Extwesill, Chapelthorp, Cregilston, Wakefelde, Stanlay, Normanton, Wodehous, Altoftes, Snytall, Ruston and Frykley, that they were and yet are thereof seised in their demesne as of fee, and that the premises in Stanley are held of the said duke by fealty only, and the residue of other lords. Order to give the next friend of the heirs to whom the heritage may not descend livery of the manor of Hempston Arundell with the exceptions hereinafter mentioned, and the issues thereof taken, but to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with three ferlings of land of that manor, delivering up any issues of them taken; as it is found by inquisition, taken before the escheator, that Cicely who was wife of William Cheyne knight at her death held no lands in Devon in chief as of the crown in demesne nor in service, but was seised of the said manor, and gave to William Wenarde yet living for his life without rendering aught to her and her heirs a messuage, one carucate of land and 6 acres of meadow parcel thereof, by name of all her lands, rents and services in Youncombe in the parish of Alvyngton by Kyngesbrigge whereof John Prestecote, Margery his wife and Walter son of the said Margery were lately tenants for life by gift of John Strecche knight her father, reserving the reversion of the same to her and her heirs, that by reason of her gift the said William was seised of the said messuage, land and meadow as of freehold, that she died seised of the reversion of the said manor, and the reversion of the said messuage, land and meadow, that the manor is held of the king in socage as of the duchy of Cornwall as of Launceveton castle by the service of 50s. of rent a year for all services, with the exception of the said three ferlings thereof, which are held of another than the king, and that Elizabeth aged seven years, Anne aged five years and Cicely aged two years were her cousins and next heirs, namely daughters of Edmund Cheyne knight her son; and it is found by another inquisition, taken before the escheator, that the said manor came to the king's hands by the death of Cicely wife of William and by reason of the nonage of the said heirs, with the exception of the messuage, land and meadow whereof William Wenarde is tenant for life, and is yet in his hand, and that the said Elizabeth and Anne are sisters and next heirs of Cicely daughter [of Edmund].
