June 6.
Westminster.
To the escheator in Somerset. Order to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with the manors of Norton and Nonyngton, delivering to the said Anne any issues thereof taken; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that at his death Richard Hankeforde held those manors as jointly enfeoffed with her by demise of James Gascoigne and others to them and the heirs of the said Richard, and that they are not held of the king. (fn. 1)
To the same. Like order, mutatis mutandis, in favour of William Foleforde clerk and Thomas Kyngeston in respect of a messuage in Taunton, a messuage, 40 acres of land and 6 acres of meadow in Pyntele, a messuage, a garden and 3 acres of meadow in 'Grasecrofte,' and a messuage, a garden and 2 acres of land in 'Cokkestrete' not held of the king, whereof the deceased, by name of Richard Hankeforde esquire was jointly enfeoffed with them by gift of John Sherrefe and others. To the escheator in Sussex. Order to take the fealty of William Hydenye, and to give him livery of a messuage, 68 acres of land, 5 acres of meadow, 55 acres of pasture, 16s. 6d. of rent of assize in Denton, and a moiety of the advowson of Denton church; as it is found by inquisition, taken before the escheator, that John Hydenye of Denton at his death held the premises of the bishopric of Cicestre as of the manor of Bysshopeston, which was in the late king's hand, by knight service and 'monture,' namely rendering at his death to the bishop of Cicestre for the time being a horse and all its harness, and that the said William his son is his next heir; and he has proved his age before the escheator. Westminster.
To the escheator in Essex. Order to give Thomas son of Thomas son of Thomas de Dale knight seisin of the manor of Dale in the town of Lalleforde; as it is found by inquisition, taken before John Godeston the late king's escheator, that Sibyl who was wife of Thomas de Dale knight at her death held that manor for life by virtue of a gift made to them and the heirs of the said Thomas, that it is held in chief as of the honour of Boulogne by the service of half a knight's fee, and that Thomas de Dale son of Thomas de Dale son of the said knight is his next heir; and he has proved his age before the escheator in Suffolk, and for 20s. paid in the hanaper the king has respited until Easter day next the homage and fealty of Thomas the grandson who is with the king in France on his service. (fn. 2)

To the escheator in Middlesex. Order to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with 3 acres of land in Holborne without the bar, delivering to the said Joan (sic) any issues thereof taken; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that Richard Hankeforde knight at his death held that land as jointly enfeoffed with Anne late his wife yet living, by name of Richard Hankeforde esquire and Anne his wife, by demise of James Gascoigne and others to them and the heirs of the said Richard, by name of all their messuages, lands etc. in Middlesex, and that it is not held of the king. July 7.
Westminster.
To the escheator in Warwickshire. Order to give John Rous seisin of the lands of Christiana Rous; as he, being brother and heir of William Rous son of Robert son of the said Christiana and her cousin and heir, the said William having died within age in ward of the king, has proved his age before the escheator; and the king has taken his fealty, and for 20s. paid in the hanaper has respited his homage until Easter day next. (fn. 2)
To the escheator in Worcestershire. Like order; as John Rous has proved his age before the escheator in Warwickshire, and for a fine paid in the hanaper the king has respited his homage until a day yet to come. (fn. 4)
Like writ to the escheator in Gloucestershire.
July 1.
Westminster.
To the collectors in the port of London of the subsidy of 3s. upon every tun of wine and 12d. in the pound. Order to deliver to John Tiptoft the king's knight or to his deputy, without payment of custom or subsidy, eleven tuns and one 'hoggeshede' of wine of Gascony there bought and purveyed for consumption of his household, as Roger Hunt has made oath in chancery. (fn. 4)
Like writ to the collectors in the port of Bristol, in respect of five tuns and one 'hoggeshede.'
July 14.
Westminster.
To the escheator in Surrey. Order to take the fealty of Lawrence Doune otherwise Jamys, and to give him livery of two thirds the manor of Mikelham, and the issues thereof taken; as it is found by inquisition, taken before the escheator, that John Brymmesgrove clerk at his death held no lands in chief nor of any other in demesne nor in service, but by indenture demised to the said Lawrence to farm for 22 years from 26 August 7 Henry VI the said two thirds, which he held in chief, that by writing of 21 March 9 Henry VI, within the said term, without obtaining licence of the king the said John made a release thereof to the said Lawrence, his heirs and assigns, that the said Lawrence was thereof seised, and that by letters patent of 22 June 9 Henry VI the king pardoned that trespass; and for 6s. 8d. paid in the hanaper the king has respited the homage of the said Lawrence until Easter next. (fn. 4)

To the constable of the Tower of London or his lieutenant. Order to suffer Thomas Cheyne esquire, whom by advice of the council the king for particular causes lately committed to the constable's custody, to go free. (fn. 4) By C.

To the escheator in Berkshire. Order to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with a rent of 10l., delivering to Anne late the wife of Richard Hankeforde knight any moneys thereof taken; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that at his death Richard Hankeforde held no lands in Berkshire in chief in demesne nor in service, but was lately seised of the manor of Estbury, except certain parcels of land called 'Hobbeshorteslonde' and a wood therein whereof William Wynarde and John Dabernoun are seised, and by name of Richard Hankeforde esquire demised that manor to farm with those exceptions to William Floyer and Thomasia his wife for their lives, rendering to the lessor and his heirs 10l. a year during the life of the said William, that he after gave among other things that rent and the reversion of the manor with the exceptions aforesaid to James Gascoigne, John Dabernoun, William Blenche and Thomas Cowyke and to their heirs, by name of the manor of Estbury with the exception of lands there in anywise held in chief, that William Floier attorned tenant to them, that those feoffees made a demise of that rent and reversion to the said Richard and Anne and the heirs of the said Richard, that the said William attorned tenant to them, that the said Richard died jointly seised with the said Anne of the rent and reversion aforesaid, and that the said manor is not held of the king. (fn. 5)
To the escheator in Berkshire. Like order in favour of John Mulys and William Floyer in respect of a toft and 20 acres of land in Revers, not held of the king, which the said Richard at his death held jointly with them by demise of John Dabernoun and William Perkyns to them and the heirs of the said Richard. (fn. 5)

Westminster.
To the constable of Bordeaux castle, or other the occupier of the office of constable for the time being. Order to pay to Godfrey (Gadifero) Shorthose the king's esquire 40l. a year which with advice and assent of the council the king granted him by letters patent of 12 May last, to be taken of the issues, profits, farms and revenues of the duchy of Aquitaine during pleasure or until for his good service provision should be made him by the king or his heirs of other office or reward, any grant thereof made to John de Radclyf the king's knight, steward of that duchy, or any other grant or ordinance to the contrary notwithstanding.
