George Swyllyngton esquire and Thomas Danyell esquire. Indenture witnessing that about Christmas day next the said Thomas shall be solely seised in fee simple of the manor of Beswyk co. York and all other lands in Yorkshire whereof he or any others to his use are now so seised, and shall make a demise thereof to the said George for life at a rent of half the yearly value of the same, quit of all statutes merchant and of the staple, all recognisances and executions thereof before the king or any of his forefathers in any court of theirs made or recovered, all annuities, rents and charges as the rents and services due to the chief lords excepted; and covenants that after such demise the said Thomas, his heirs and assigns shall at their own expense repair and maintain one half of the said manor and lands and bear the charges thereupon, and the said George, his heirs and assigns one half likewise, that the said George shall by writing under his seal grant to the said Thomas and his assigns power to distrain for arrears, if the said rent be one quarter in arrear, and to enter and hold the premises again in his first estate, thrusting out the said George, his assigns and any others this indenture notwithstanding, if the same be half a year in arrear, and that if the said Thomas shall die in the life time of the said George the rent shall cease; and bond of either party in 500l. for performance of these covenants. Middlesex called the 'Swan,' with three dwelling houses and gardens thereto attached, namely between the high road leading to the church of St. Martin in the Field on the west, the high road leading from 'Charyngcrosse' to London on the south, a tenement of the abbot of Westminster on the east and the churchyard of the said church on the north; also of 4 acres of meadow and 4 acres of arable land in the fields of St. Giles of the Lepers, the arable land lying in two pieces there and the meadow in one piece, namely between the high road leading to St. Giles of the Lepers on the east, land late of the baron de Castello on the west, land of lord Beaumount on the south and land of the house of St. Giles on the north, all which the grantors had by feoffment of John Clerk of Westminster, jointly with Master Peter Stukele clerk, John Joos and Thomas Depden who have made them a quitclaim thereof.
