Will of Johane Clynton widow, late the wife of Thomas
Clynton knight, made and indented 6 April 31 Henry VI, that
John Talbot lord Lysle, John Greseley, knights, Rauff de la
Pole, John Curson, Thomas Stokes and Thomas Duffeld her
feoffees in the counties of Leycestre, Warrewyk and Derby
hold all her manors, lands, rents, reversions and services for
three years after her decease and of the issues of the same satisfy
all her debts, that they find for three years a priest to sing for
her soul and the souls of Thomas her husband, John sometime
her husband, Raufe Maynell knight and Johane his wife, her
father and mother and all Christian souls, that the abbess and
convent of Minoresses beside the Tower of London have 10l.
on condition that they and their successors recommend her soul
in their prayers and hold her anniversary with placebo dirige
and 'masse of requiem by note' yearly for ten years, that the
house of the Calk co. Derby have 40s. and the church of Hertishorn
a chasuble, price 26s. 8d., that Isabell Fraunceys, her daughter's
daughter, and Margaret, Isabell's sister, have to their marriage
40 marks and 40l. respectively, if before marriage either die the
part of her that dies to remain to the other, and if both die Cecile
their sister to have 20l. of it, Elizabeth Fraunceys nun of Poullesworthe 10 marks, and the residue to be disposed in works of
piety by the oversight of Margarete countess of Shrovesbury,
that her cousin Thomas Curson have 10 marks, Richard Maynell
son of John Maynell her cousin and servant have yearly for
three years 20s. 'toward his fyndyng to scole,' Johane sister of
the same Richard her god-daughter 20s., and Thomas Stokes
40s., that Thomas Duffeld and Charles Ledes her servants have
100s. each, that if neither John Shirley, son of Margarete Shirley
her daughter, nor any other by his covin or assent let the feoffees
of their possession or gainsay this will, immediately after the said
three years they make estate to him and his heirs of an estate in
the 'halvendell' of the said manors, lands, etc., with remainder
to her right heirs, that the other 'halvendell' remain in possession
of the feoffees until Thomas Fraunceys son of Anne Fraunceys
another of her daughters come to the age of 20, that they give
him yearly 40s. 'toward his fyndyng to scole,' and the 'remanent'
to be distributed among poor people and in other works of charity
for her soul and the souls aforesaid by the oversight of the said
countess, and when Thomas comes to the age of 20 make estate
to him and his heirs of the 'halvendell' with remainder to her
right heirs, and if he die without heir Johane Fraunceys, minoress,
during her life to have yearly as much as any of her sisters; if
John Shirley and Thomas Fraunceys or any other by their covin
or assent trouble her feoffees, the feoffees shall hold all the said
manors etc. for 10 years after her decease, and thenceforth the
issues shall be disposed in works of charity by the oversight of the
said countess; and if John Shirley and Thomas Fraunceys or any
other that should inherit the said manors etc. or any other by
covin or assent trouble her feoffees during the said ten years or
gainsay this will, the feoffees shall sell all the lands etc. which
she had in Burton Novery and Upton co. Leycestre for
fulfilling the same, and John Shirley, Thomas Fraunceys, their
heirs and all other 'letters' shall be barred of all claim in the
said lands, etc. English. |

20 September 28 Henry VI, she gave to them and to John Holond
knight now deceased, their heirs and assigns, and delivered to
them seisin thereof by virtue of letters patent to Richard Walker,
Henry Alyn and John Symond her attorneys; and quitclaim
