Westminster.
To the chamberlain of Southwales for the time being. Order to pay to Simon de Burley 40l. a year for life, and the arrears since 19 August 6 Richard II, on which date the king granted him for life the office of justice of Southwales, to be exercised by himself or a deputy for whom he would answer, taking for his fee 40l. a year at the exchequer of Kemerdyn by the hands of the said chamberlain.

Order to the sheriff of Northumberland to cause a coroner to be elected instead of John Lawesson, who is dead.

Westminster.
To all sheriffs, mayors, bailiffs, ministers and lieges to whom etc. Order to suffer the prior and monks of Durham to be quit of payment of toll and passage, not troubling them in aught contrary to the charters of former kings; as among other liberties thereby granted to the prior and monks, which the king has confirmed by charter with the clause licet, it is granted that they and their successors shall everywhere be quit of such payment.

To the mayor and bailiffs of Suthampton. Writ de intendendo, and order from time to time to deliver for ready payment to Thomas de Holand earl of Kent, captain of the castle and town of Chirburgh, as need shall be and as required by the earl, his attorneys or deputies, ships and seamen sufficient for shipment of himself, the men at arms, armed men and others whom he will send to foreign parts for furnishing that castle and town. Order to the sheriff of Berkshire to cause a coroner to be elected instead of William Remmenham, who is insufficiently qualified.

To brother Herman abbot of Stratford. Order to deliver to Agnes Hale 20l. 5s. wherein the abbot is bound to the king; as it is found by inquisition, taken before Nicholas Brembre mayor of the city of London and escheator therein, that John Norhampton late citizen of London was bound to her in 71l. 10s., whereof she is not yet contented; and in consideration of her poverty, and that if she be not contented she will be utterly brought to nought, the king has granted that she shall have in full payment of the said abbot 20l. 5s., of brother John Preston prior of Brestlesham 9l. 5s., of Geoffrey Greg 'taverner' 40l. wherein they are now severally bound to the king as debtors of the said John by reason of a judgment against him rendered.
Note (in margin) that by virtue of this writ the abbot came in chancery 7 February this year and paid to the said Agnes 20l. 5s. 9d., and she acknowledged that she was contented.
