February 1387

Feb. 8.
Westminster.
To John de Burnham late mayor of Lenne, John Drolle and John Prentys late bailiffs. Strict order, under peril of the king's wrath, before the second Sunday in Lent next to send or bring to London all money of merchants of Prucia by them arrested by virtue of the king's late command, and to deliver it to Nicholas de Exton mayor of London by indenture, whereby and by this command it is the king's will that they be discharged thereof until as great a sum shall be repaid them by certain lieges whose goods are arrested in Prucia, which it is the king's will that they be compelled to do according to order taken before the council by assent of the said merchants; as the king's command was from time to time to arrest all goods and merchandise of the lordship of Prucia until further order, and by advice of the council the king took order to send to Prucia certain ambassadors for delivery of the goods there arrested and amends of other grievances and wrongs, whose costs shall be equally and rateably assessed and levied of the goods which were or yet remain there under arrest, over and above the costs of one knight who shall sail at the king's cost; and for that the costs of such embassy may not be so levied as speedily as there is need, as the king's merchants averred who sued for the business before the council, save of the money of merchants of Prucia already under arrest in the hands of the king's ministers, by advice of the council the king has granted at the prayer of his said lieges that all the aforesaid money shall be brought to London and delivered to the mayor to be laid out at the disposition and request of John Kirton, Thomas Blosse, Richard Wedoun, Richard Rothewelle, Hugh Boys and John Millynge citizens of London and attorneys of the said lieges, as shall seem expedient for the said embassy to them or the majority of them in such matters as concern the said lieges.
To Nicholas Brembre late mayor of London, John Chircheman and John Organ late sheriffs. Like order to deliver to Nicholas de Exton all money of merchants of Prucia by them arrested.
