Master William Cawode parson of Belesby in the diocese of Lincoln to John Bussy knight sheriff of Lincoln. Release of all actions by reason of the execution of a statute merchant for 80l., made before Simon de Qeuxlay late mayor of York and Henry de Axilholme then clerk deputed to receive recognisances for debts at York, and returned before the justices of the Bench in the octaves of Michaelmas 10 Richard II, by virtue whereof the sheriff took John de Grymesby of Pidseburton in Holdernesse, and committed him not according to the law to the gaol of Lincoln castle. Request to take again their letters patent to Richard Sampson of Hertford concerning a maintenance which he had for life in that house at the late king's command, to ascertain the said Richard's assent, and to admit to their house Thomas Grenoke servant of the earl of Derby, whom the king is sending to them, and minister to him such maintenance, making him other letters under their common seal with mention of what he shall take, and writing again by the bearer what they will do; as at the earl's request it is the king's will to make provision for the said Thomas. Memorandum that on Tuesday after St. Luke, 23 October this year, about the first hour Michael de la Pole earl of Suffolk in a chamber within the privy palace at Westminster delivered to the king the great seal sealed up in a leathern bag under his own seal, praying to be discharged of the office of chancellor, and the king took it in his own hands; and on Wednesday 24 October about the sixth hour in the said palace, in presence of William archbishop of Canterbury, Alexander archbishop of York, William bishop of Winchester, Th. bishop of Exeter, Edmund duke of York and Thomas duke of Gloucestre and of other great men, the king delivered the seal in the said bag to Th. bishop of Ely, having taken of him an oath truly to perform the office of chancellor, and caused it to be taken with him to his lodging. And next day straightway after sunrise in the great hall of Westminster in the place appointed for the chancery the bishop of Ely being chancellor caused the bag to be opened, the seal drawn forth, and divers charters, letters patent and writs in furtherance of suitors to be sealed as the manner is, in presence of the clerks of chancery and many others, thenceforward daily exercising the said office.

William de Brentyngham and Joan who was wife of John de Sunnynghulle. Indenture of accord concerning the manor of Sunnynghulle co. Berkes, which the said Joan lately recovered by verdict of an inquisition in the king's court upon a writ of cui in vita, claiming to hold the same by virtue of a gift made to her and her husband and to the heirs of their bodies, her husband having died without issue, being now seised thereof by virtue of that recovery, that the said William shall make a confirmation of her estate therein by deed enrolled in a court of record, and shall cause her to have a confirmation likewise made by all feoffees thereof, or of any parcel thereof, since the first seisin of William Venour, that these confirmations shall be made before Easter next, that she shall not be impleaded, impeached or troubled by him or any other who has had an estate therein since the seisin of William Venour by action Commencing before this date, nor by their heirs or assigns or any by their procurement, that her husband and executors shall have power to reap and carry wheat growing upon the said manor at her death, and disposal of her husband's goods and hers which shall be in the manor at her death, with free ingress and egress to remove the same one whole year after her death, that William de Brentyngham shall make no suit against her or any juror upon the said inquisition, nor shall any man by his procurement, but he hereby makes a release of all actions against them touching the inquisition or verdict, and all other personal actions, and for defeasance of a recognisance for 102l. to her made by the said William de Brantyngham before the mayor of the staple at Westminster, upon condition that he shall keep these covenants.
