1465[–6]. 3 Non. March. (5 March.) St. Mark's, Rome. (f. 57.)	To James Rate, abbot of the monastery of St. Mary, Balmerenoch, O. Cist., in the diocese of St. Andrews. Provision to him, a monk of the monastery of Cols’ (fn. 2) in the diocese of Dunblane, O. Cist., in priest's orders and of lawful age and birth, of the above monastery of St. Mary, Balmerenoch, of the same order, in the diocese of St. Andrews, void by the death of Richard, during whose lifetime its provision was specially reserved by the present pope. Summi disposicione rectoris.

Faculty to him, to whom the pope has recently made provision of the above monastery, to be blessed by any catholic bishop of his choice in communion with the apostolic see, who, after he has blessed him, shall receive from him the usual oath of fealty, according to the from enclosed, and shall without delay send it by his own envoy to the pope, by his letters patent sealed with his seal. Faculty to him, to whom the pope has recently made provision of the above churches, to be consecrated by any catholic bishop in communion with the apostolic see, assisted by two or three like bishops. He is first to take to the said bishop the usual oath of fealty, according to the form enclosed, which Robert is to send without delay to the pope by his own envoy by his letters patent sealed with his seal; without prejudice to the archbishop of Canterbury, to whom the said churches are by metropolitical right subject. Dispensation to him, who has studied canon law for about eight years in the university of Oxford, to receive any two benefices with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if parish churches or their perpetual vicarages or major or principal dignities, etc., and to retain them for five years if two parish churches or [perpetual] vicarages, or if not for life, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, notwithstanding the pope's late ordinance to the contrary, etc. Litterarum scientia, vite etc. (N. and A. de Piscia. \| N. xxx. de Bonaparte.) 1466. 11 Kal. Sept. (22 Aug.) St. Mark's, Rome. (f. 260.)	To Alexander Gray, clerk, of the diocese of Moray. Dispensation to him (who was formerly dispensed by authority of the ordinary on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be made a clerk and receive and retain a benefice without cure, after which he was made a clerk), to be promoted to all, even holy orders and receive and retain any mutually compatible benefices with or without cure, of any number and kind, even if canonries and prebends, major or principal dignities, etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases.
