To John Fossard, bachelor of canon law. Collation and provision to him, a priest, of noble race and lawful birth, of the archdeaconry of Connor, a major dignity with cure, value not exceeding 12 marks, provision of which the pope made to the late Maurice Macmeanmam Idhomhnail on its becoming void and reserved by the death at the apostolic see of Odo Okeala [cf. Odo Ochaylti in Cal. Lett. VII, p. 91], and which has become void and again reserved by the death, also at the apostolic see, of the said Maurice without having had possession; John Ogubuyn, priest, who asserted that he had received a papal grant of provision thereof, having ceded into the pope's hands the said grant, the letters of which had not been drawn up; whether it be void by the death of Maurice, or by the said cession, or in any other way, and notwithstanding that John holds the parish church of Badelesmer (also written
Badelesmere) in the diocese of Canterbury, value not exceeding 20 marks, with which he lately received papal dispensation to hold for life any benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, and to resign both, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased. To Robert de Cranach, perpetual vicar of Tibirmor in the diocese of Dunkeld, M.A. Reservation to the pope's gift, for collation to him, who is also a bachelor of canon law, of the deanery of Dunblane, a major elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 20l. sterling, to which a certain canonry and prebend in Dunkeld are annexed, about to become void by the promotion, made by the pope, and by the consecration, which is to take place, of Michael, elect of Dunblane; notwithstanding that he—to whom lately the pope made provision of a canonry of Dunkeld, another of Moray and another of Dunblane, with reservation of as many prebends and of a dignity etc. of one of those churches, and of a benefice with or without cure, wont to be assigned to secular clerks, in the common or several gift of the Benedictine abbot and convent of Abrobrothe in the diocese of St. Andrews [see Cal. Lett. VII, p. 371], and also made him provision [ibid., p. 405] of the above vicarage (here written ‘Tibirmur’), previously reserved, of which he is in possession, and about which he has gained a definitive sentence in the apostolic palace, value not exceeding 20 marks sterling, and whom the pope dispensed [ibid., p. 441] to hold the said vicarage for life together with such dignity etc., or such, or any other, benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible—in virtue of the said first named letters accepted within the lawful time and caused to be made to him provision of the archdeaconry of Moray, a non-major dignity with cure, and its annexes, value not exceeding 30l. sterling, of which he is not in possession. He is hereby dispensed to hold the said deanery, if collated to him under these presents, for a year together with the said vicarage and archdeaconry or other such incompatible benefice, within which period he is to exchange one of such three incompatible benefices for another benefice compatible with the other two, or, if not, is to resign the said vicarage, and thereafter to hold the other two incompatible benefices for life, and resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. Further, as soon as under these presents he obtains the said deanery, he is to cease to be, by authority of the said first letters, a canon of Dunblane. Litterarum etc. |

To the archdeacon of Leighlin (Leginen.). Mandate—the pope having been informed by Comelius Obruyn, clerk, of the diocese of Dublin, who is of noble race, that Thomas Fosster, archdeacon of Glendalough in Dublin, has sold and alienated lands etc. belonging to the said archdeaconry, and has publicly kept concubines by whom he has had offspring of both sexes, is ignorant of letters, and is quite unacquainted with the language which that country commonly uses, and has committed several other enormities—if Cornelius will duly accuse Thomas before him, to summon Thomas and others concerned, and if he find the said charges, or enough thereof, to be true, to deprive Thomas, and in that event to collate and assign the said archdeaconry, a non-major elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 40 marks, to Cornelius, on its becoming void by such deprivation, or even if it be already actually void by the death of James Symon, or in any other way; notwithstanding that he holds the rectory of Cillmocna in the diocese of Dublin, value not exceeding 4 marks, which he is to resign, as he has offered, upon obtaining the said archdeaconry.
