The subprior and convent of Dunstaple, announcing the cession of Geoffrey, their prior, by Simon de Eton and Henry de Neuton, their fellow-canons, bringing letters of the chapter, have like licence.

Grant to William Belet of 20 marks a year at the Exchequer, until the king provide for him more bountifully in wards or escheats.

Grant to Edmund the king's son, for the maintenance of himself and his household, of the wardship of the lands late of Baldwin de Insula, earl of Devon, and of the lands late of Thomas Gresle, with wards, reliefs, escheats, dowers when they fall in, advowsons of churches, and all other things belonging to the said lands, except the marriages of the heirs of the said Baldwin and Thomas.

Grant to Ralph de Dunion, king's clerk, canon of St. Paul's, London, of the houses late of Peter de Rivallis, canon of St. Paul's, within the close of the said church, in the king's gift by reason of the voidance of the bishopric of London; with mandate to the dean and chapter to give him seisin thereof.

Bond to Philip le Tailur and Stephen de Chelmerford, citizens of London, in 120l. for 50 tuns of wine lately taken from them to the king's use [at] London by John de Swineford, chamberlain of London, on testimony by Alan la Zuche, the steward; and the king will pay one moiety at the exchequer of Hilary and another moiety at the exchequer of Easter following.

To L. son of Griffin. The king is sending to him Philip le Bret, and the preceptor of the house of the Knights Templars of Garewy, and the master of the house of Donemor as his envoys to explain his affairs, and he is to give credence to them.

To the dean and chapter of Salisbury. The king has changed to Walter de Merton, the chancellor, the prebend which he had in the church of Salisbury, and granted him the prebend of Bere, which Master Ralph de Eboraco, deceased, had in that church, and in the king's gift by reason of the voidance of the bishopric of Salisbury; and therefore he commands them to assign him a stall in the choir and a place in the chapter accordingly.

A like letter issued without the addition of the name of Bere.

Notification to the said dean and chapter that on the resignation by the king's clerk, Walter de Merton, the chancellor, of the prebend which he had in the church of Salisbury, the king has granted him the prebend which the said Master Ralph had in the same church; and mandate &c.

A like letter issued without any mention made of resignation or exchange.

Grant for life to William Portejoie, serjeant of the rolls of the Chancery, in satisfaction of the late grant to him of 4½d. a day out of the first money of the king's appointed alms that should fall in, of 4½d. a day, which Philip de Sechevill, deceased, used to receive of such alms, to wit, 2d. by the hands of the sheriffs of London, 1d. by the hands of the bailiffs of Havering and 1½d. at the Exchequer.

Grant to Master John Mansel the younger of the prebend of Yettesbiry, void by the exchange which the king made to Walter de Merton, the chancellor, and in the king's gift by reason of the voidance of the bishopric of Salisbury; with mandate in pursuance to the dean and chapter.

Protection with clause for Ingram de Fenes, going beyond seas on the king's affairs; so long as he is so engaged.

Ralph de Selveston and Ralph de Sandeston, monks of Luffeld, coming to the king with letters patent of their chapter announcing the death of William their prior, have licence to elect.

Grant to William Charles, dwelling with one other in the king's household (mannagio) of 20l. a year at the Exchequer, until the king shall provide for him more bountifully in wards or escheats.

Mandate to H. prior of St. Radegund's, Master J. de Chishull and H. de Wengham, archdeacon of London and Middlesex, J. de Wengham, precentor of St. Paul's, London, H. de Stokes, and their co-executors of the will of H. de Wengham, sometime bishop of London, to acquit the king to Guy de Lezignan, William de Valencia, the king's brothers, Gerard la Grue, and their co-executors of the will of A. sometime bishop of Winchester, the king's brother, touching 5,000 sheep, 200 cows and 10 bulls which the king caused to be delivered to the said bishop of London out of the stock of the said bishop of Winchester while the latter was in the court of Rome, and his bishopric was in the king's hands.

Grant to Ebulo de Montibus that the king will provide for him, out of the first wards that fall in, in a wardship of the value of 100 marks or 50l. or 200 marks, with the marriage of the heirs.

Mandate to Geoffrey de Cauz, guardian of the bishopric of London, to cause Master Henry de Sandwico, whose election as bishop of London has been confirmed by B. archbishop of Canterbury, to have seisin of the said bishopric.

Whereas, Edward the king's son is occupied beyond seas and Llewelin son of Griffin does not cease from committing damages in the March of Wales to the disherison of the king and his son, the king, with the assent and wish of his son, has appointed William la Zuche to be justice of Chester, for the preservation of that country and the defence of those parts against the king's enemies of Wales, during the pleasure of the king and his son; with mandate to barons, knights and others, to be of aid to him when required.

Protection with clause, until Whitsunday, for Fulk son of Warin, acting in the March of Wales for the defence of his lands there against the Welsh.

Grant to Raymond Markeis, citizen of Besaz, that he may bring to England 100 tuns of his own wine this year and a like quantity next year quit of all prise except the ancient prise; with mandate to the takers of wines through England accordingly.

Protection with clause for Simon Passelewe, so long as he be engaged on the king's affairs in France.

Signification to the bishop of Lincoln of the royal assent to the election of Ralph de Luffeld, monk of Luffeld, to be prior of that house.

To the king of France. With regard to what he signified to the king by J. de Valentino, his knight, at Gurnay, about the peace of the earl of Leicester, about which they had speech before at Compiègne (Compendium), the king sends his answer by Master J. de Chishull, archdeacon of London, and Imbert de Muntferrant, king's knight. And although both the law of kindred and the argument of lordship and the manifold kindnesses of the king of France should dispose the king to confide in him above all mortals, the king requests of him, out of regard for the king's honour and indemnity that this business shall not suffer a renewal, especially as the earl has disturbed the king and his realm to such an extent that the realm has long suffered and still suffers no slight loss. The above envoys will inform him of the king's estate, and the king wishes to be informed of his estate by them.

Appointment of the said Master John and Imbert as the king's proctors to consent to the form of peace which L. king of France, shall ordain with their assent touching all the contentions, plaints, and demands between the king and the said Simon, and Eleanor his countess, the king's sister.

Vacated because the letter was surrendered and cancelled on Thursday before Palm Sunday. On the same day the said John and Imbert restored to J. Mansel treasurer of York a box in which is contained a charter of the king of France touching 15,000 marks until the king of England shall have satisfied the earl of Leicester of divers demands, and a charter of the earl of Leicester, sealed with his seal and that of his wife, touching the restitution of manors of the king to be made under certain conditions, with several instruments touching the affair of the said earl.

Pardon, at the instance of the queen, to Richard de Stokelle for the death of Robert le Wyte, as it appears by inquisition made by Martin de Lyttelbyry and Peter de Percy that he killed him in self defence.

Writ of Liberate to the treasurer and chamberlains for 4½d. daily for Master Roger sometime the king's cook, and 1½d. a day for John de Rotheby, king's messenger, which Nicholas de Belem used to receive in his lifetime at the Exchequer of the king's appointed alms. Notification to the king of France of the appointment of Raymond de Bovis Villa, the king's kinsman, and Simon Passelewe and Master John de Pontesio, king's clerks, as the king's proctors to the cause which he has against Reynold de Pontibus and Margaret his wife in the court of France and in the causes moved against him touching the castle of Bergerac, on the quinzaine of the Purification and following days, on condition that the opponent be not of a more powerful condition.

To the king of France. Whereas in the cause which the said Reynold and Margaret move against the king in the court of the king of France in which they say they were despoiled by the king, in the possession of the castle of Bergerac, certain proctors, appointed by the king in the past year, exceeded their powers without the king's knowledge, upon the third article, the king repudiates their action.

Notification to the king of France of the appointment of the above proctors in almost identical terms.

Notification to the same of the appointment of the above as the king's proctors on the said point, to wit, the charge of spoliation.

Notification that J. bishop of Winchester, in part satisfaction of the 2,229l. 13s. 1d. which he owes for the purchase of the corn and stock of the bishopric which he received from the king after the restitution of the temporalities, paid 1,000l. in the Exchequer on Thursday after Hilary, 47 Henry III, by a tally which he received for the same; and grant that he pay another 1,000l. at the rate of 250 marks half yearly commencing at the Exchequer at Michaelmas next; and pardon to him of the residue.

Grant to Engelard de Cygony of the marriage of Alice late the wife of Nicholas de Berkele, who held in chief of Richard de Clare, sometime earl of Gloucester, which marriage belongs to the king by reason of his wardship of the land and heir of the said earl; with fine if any be made for the said marriage, and the forfeiture if she marry without the licence of the king or the said Engelard.

Grant to Raymond de Bovis Villa, the king's kinsman, of the prebend of Chisingebiry and Chete, which Master Gilbert de Byham, deceased, had in the church of Salisbury, in the king's gift by reason of the voidance of the bishopric of Salisbury ; with mandate in pursuance to the dean and chapter.

Mandate to William de Weilond, escheator on this side Trent, to deliver the priory of Lufeld with its temporalities to Robert de Silveston, one of the monks, whose election as prior has been confirmed by R. bishop of Lincoln.

Mandate to Roger de Muubray to deliver Joan daughter of the sometime Simon de Bello Campo, who is in his keeping, to Isabel late the wife of the said Simon and Robert de Stotevill, or to the said Isabel and Baldwin Wake, to bring to the queen as they are enjoined.

Commitment during pleasure to John de Grei of the castle of Hereford ; with mandate to the bishop of Hereford to deliver it to him.

Bond to Raymond de Belyn in 86l. 8s. for 36 tuns of wine, to Ellis de la Naude in 60l. for 25 tuns and to Luke de Batencurt, in 48l. for 20 tuns, taken from them to the king's use by John de Swineford, chamberlain of London, on testimony by Ebulo de Montibus, the steward ; and the king will pay them on the first Sunday of Lent 94l. 8s., and on the first Sunday after Mid-Lent 100l.

Protection with clause for five years for William de Portejoie.

Appointment, until Midsummer, of Raymond de Bovis Villa, king's kinsman, and John de la Linde, seneschal of the Limousin, Périgord and Quercy, as the king's proctors to sue and receive what remains to be completed in the cities and diocese of Limoges, Périgueux and Cahors by the form of the peace with the king of France.

Mandate to Humphrey de Bohun, earl of Hereford, keeper of the lands late of R. earl of Gloucester, in Wales, to deliver to M. countess of Gloucester, the manor of Uske with the castle, the manor of Trillec with the fortalice (forteletto) assigned to her in dower with other lands.

The like to Gerard la Grue and William de Haselbech, keepers of the honour of Clare, to deliver to her the manor of Clare with the castle.

Appointment of John de Swineford to sell the king's wines at Not[ingham] and Boston and lay out the proceeds in the purchase of other wines.

Grant to Richard de Ewell, buyer of the wardrobe, of the wardship of the lands and heirs of John le Brun who held in chief of Baldwin de Insula, earl of Devon, in the king's gift by reason of his wardship of the lands of the said Baldwin; with the marriage of the heirs.

Mandate to William Weilond, escheator on this side Trent, to let him have this wardship and marriage.

Feb. 8. Westminster.

Grant to Philip Basset, justiciary of England, of the wardship of all the lands late of William de Bello Campo of Bedford, tenant in chief, to hold with knights' fees, advowsons, of churches, and dowers when they fall in ; saving to Ingram de Fednes 200 marks yearly of land assigned to him during the minority of the heirs, to wit, the manor of Cerdington with the woods of the manor and the chaces ; the manor of Shaldesle; 20l. a year in the manor of Haunes, and 53s. 4d. a year of the aid of the said manor, and 16s. a year in Houne; and saving to the wife of the said William reasonable dower ; and saving to the king the marriage of the heir.

Notification to Louis king of France of the appointment of Master Hugh de Mortuo Mari and John de la Lynde, seneschal of the Limousin, Perigord and Quercy, in the room of John Mansell, treasurer of York, and Robert Walerand as the king's proctors to estimate the sum which the king ought to receive for the cost of 500 knights for two years according to the form of the peace between them.

Appointment of W. bishop of Exeter, Henry son of the king of Almain, the king's nephew, William de Valencia, the king's brother, Master Hugh de Mortuo Mari. William, prior of Le Mas, d' Agenais (de Manso), and Simon Passelewe as the king's proctors to receive and fulfil in the king's name whatever remains to be done touching the late peace.

MEMBRANE 16.

Feb. 4. London.

A covenant made between the king and Raymond, vicomte of Turenne, The said Raymond, at the prayers of the king of France, shall renounce the letters and privileges which he has of the said king and his predecessors, containing that the king of France cannot put him out of his hand (extra manum suam). He and his heirs and successors shall do fealty and homage to the king and his heirs for the castles, land and fees which he holds of the king of France, which are of the vicomte of Turenne, and also for his money (moneta) and the right of coining it, and shall hold all these things of the king and his heirs in the same way as he or his ancestors held of the king of France, and shall do to the king what he and his predecessors were accustomed to do to the king of France. He and his heirs, in sign of lordship, shall surrender the keys of the castles of Turenne and St. Céré (de Sancto Sereno) to the king, and two or three men of the king shall enter and go up with the king's banner into the said castles without excluding the household and people of the vicomte and shall there display the said banner. And this surrender of keys, entry, going up of the said men with banner, and display of the said banner shall be done once in the king's time, and in like manner once in the time of each of the king's heirs, when the vicomte is required by such heir. And immediately after this has been done the said keys shall be restored to the vicomte and the said men with the banner shall retire from the said castles.

The king shall not have cognizance of the causes and litigations (litigiis) of the men of the vicomte who are of his court (foro) and jurisdiction, unless the same are brought to the king or his people or his court by appeals from sentences in the vicomte's court, and unless the vicomte in doing justice shall be negligent or in default.

The king, or his seneschal at his mandate, shall not make any new bastides within the bounds of the land which the vicomte has in the vicomté of Turenne, nor in any other land of the vicomte.

The vicomte can with arms (without being bound to make any amends for this) or without arms, compel the men of his court and jurisdiction, if need be, to stand and obey law in his court.

The king or his seneschal shall not hold assizes in the castles of the vicomte or in any other land of his except in the town of Martell, but there the vicomte is willing that he hold them.

The king shall aid, defend and maintain the vicomte against all men refusing to receive justice from him before the king or at his mandate.

For the fuller observance hereof, each party has made letters patent to the other.

A like covenant with Poncius de Gordonio. [This contains the same clauses as the enrolment below dated 22 April, printed in, Fœdera, except the last three touching Gilbert de Tamynes, the not putting the said Poncius out of the king's hand, and the seneschal's oath.]

A like covenant with Gaillard, abbot of Figeac and his monastery.

He shall renounce the letters and privileges which he has of the king of France, and do homage and fealty to the king for the things and fees of his monastery.

The king promises to give him like letters and privileges, or better than he had of the said king of France.

The king will give him letters that he and his successors cannot put him out of his hand.

The king will keep and defend the rights and liberties of the said monastery as is contained in the letters and privileges of the kings of France, and if in past time anything has been attempted by the kings of France against the said monastery, it shall not be drawn into a precedent. The king will renew the privileges which they have of the kings of France, and touching a privilege of a certain king of France called Louis, the king will stand by it and will give credence to a copy thereof sealed with authentic seals.

If any persons of the district and jurisdiction of the said abbot have up to this present day committed any offence, or done any forfeiture, and if through negligence or default of the abbot or his predecessors, any causes in the town of Figeac or other land and fee of the abbot have come to the court of the king of France, or if the king of France ought to receive any amends in the town, land and fee of the abbot up to the present, the king grants that from the time the abbot shall have done his homage and fealty to the king, he shall have his court of the said trespasses, and he and his men of his district and jurisdiction shall be quit of the said amends, saving this, that, as regards future causes no prejudice shall arise to the king or his heirs.

The king will protect, maintain and defend the abbot and all those who have procured his coming to the king's fealty against all men and will grant him letters patent of protection accordingly.

For the fuller observance hereof, each party has made letters patent to the other.

Bond to the abbot of Figeac in 1,000 pounds of Tours, to be paid at the place and term agreed between the abbot and Raymond de Bovis Villa, king's kinsman, and John de la Lynde, seneschal of the Limousin, Perigord and Quercy.

Poncius de Gordonio, for 300 pounds of Tours.

Grant for life to Raymond, vicomte of Turenne, of 195 pounds of Tours yearly, payable at Castrum Novum in the diocese of Périgueux, by the hands of the seneschal of the Limousin, Périgord and Quercy.

Grant to Guy de Turrenna, clerk, brother of the vicomte of Turrenne of 150 pounds of Tours to be taken at the said castle yearly, until provision be made for him in a benefice of like value.

Notification to L. king of France of the appointment of Raymond de Bovis Villa, king's kinsman, and Simon Passelewe and Master John de Pontesio, king's clerks, as proctors in the cause which the king has against Reynold de Pontibus and Margaret his wife in the court of the king of France touching the castle of Bergerac ; with power to depose (ponendi) and to answer by oath on the king's soul, and of suing and exacting that the king's witnesses and proofs touching his defences and especially touching his answering the truth upon oath, be admitted before the said king, lest to the peril of the king's soul, the subversion and shame of his royal eminence, honour and right which as a peer of France he has in the said court, he be convicted of perjury through the non-admission of his proofs upon his defences : and to sue, if need be, for judgment of the king's peers, as this question touches not only the king's body but his soul, estate and honour, and to protest that mortal sin is being committted against the king, if his proofs be not admitted in his defences in the said question : and to do and protest all other things that are to be done and to do this on the day appointed on the quinzaine of the Purification and following days if the case continues. And this is signified both to the king of France and the adverse party.

To the said L. king of France, repudiating the action of the king's late proctors in the affair of Bergerac in the same terms as above [membrane 18].

Commitment during pleasure to Walter de Sulleye of the lands and castles late of the earl of Gloucester in Glammorgan, which the king before this had committed to H. de Bohun earl of Hereford and Essex ; with mandate to all persons of Glammorgan and the March of Wales to be of aid and counsel to him.

Mandate to the earl to deliver the same to the said Walter, to whom the king has committed the earl of Gloucester's lands in Glammorgan and elsewhere.

Pardon to Richard son of William de Notte for the death of Robert son of John, on testimony before the king by Martin de Littlebiry and his fellows, justices last in eyre in the county of Leicester, that he killed him by misadventure.

The like to Roger son of Henry de Friseby for the death of John son of Alice de Skeftington, on like testimony.

The like to William de Bristoll of his abjuration of the realm for the death of Joan his wife, on testimony by Martin de Littlebiry before the king that she is still alive.

Licence for life for William de Morteyn to hunt with his own dogs the fox, the hare and the cat through all forests in the county of Stafford, except in fence month.

Pardon, at the instance of Adam de Greynvill, to Geoffrey de la Wik for the death of Robert de Ford, as it appears by inquisition made by Henry de Bratton that he killed him in self defence.

Grant, out of affection to Imbert Pugeis, sometime the steward, to Joan de Aguylun late his wife and their children of the wardship of the lands and heirs of John son of Bernard, tenant in chief, previously granted to the said Imbert, and extended at 91l. 9s. 2d.; saving to the king the marriage of the heirs and the advowsons of churches; on condition that whereas Imbert used to pay Frederick de Lavonia 100 marks a year and used to take the remaining 24l. 15s. 10d. in lieu of his fee of 40 marks, the said Joan and her children render the same and take the residue for their sustenance. Grant to John de Plessetis, earl of Warwick, out of affection to him, that, when he dies, the executors of his will shall have free administration of his goods and that the king will betake himself to his heirs for debts due to the king.

Grant to Stephen son of Peter, king's yeoman, who holds certain land in Kerkeby Orblawer for eight years by grant of Ingram de Percy deceased, that for this term he shall be quit of all suits due from him at the king's county and hundreds by reason of the said land.

Mandate to Robert Walerand, warden of the Cinque Ports, as in the contentions between the barons of the Cinque Ports and the men of Great Yarmouth an ordinance of peace is provided by the king's council at a certain day and in their presence has been laid down and ordered, to cause this peace to be cried and observed on pain of the loss of their liberties.

Grant to Walter Hamund, king's serjeant, of the land which William Reyner held in Fekeham, which is the king's escheat through his felony for which he was hanged, as appears by inquisition made by William de Weilond, escheator on this side Trent; to hold to the said Walter and his heirs in the same manner as the said William and his ancestors.

Northampton, and it has been proved by all the perambulations made of the metes and bounds of the forest since king's charter of the forest that their dogs ought not to be lawed and never were lawed, and neither they nor their ancestors were accustomed to give lawing of their dogs.

Pardon also to the said Thomas and his heirs begotten of the said Eleanor of the arrentation made by the king of the said serjeanty by reason of the said alienation. Grant that he and his heirs hold the said serjeanty in demesne services and other things pertaining thereto in its integrity and in the same manner as the ancestors of Eleanor had it before the taking and arrentation.

Hertford, so that they present in full county what they find by their inquisitions before the coroners of the said county when these shall have been substituted in full county.

Grant to M. queen of Scots, the king's daughter, who holds the manor of Soureby by grant of A. king of Scotland, her lord, at his will, which manor is within the king's forest of Englewode, that she may hold the wood of the said manor quit of regard during the king's pleasure, provided that it remain in her hands, and that she take her estover therein without livery and view of the foresters of the said forest, so that she do no waste, sale or destruction thereof.

In the year 1262, 47 Henry III, of the mere and free will of the king and in his full and free power, by the counsel of his faithful lieges, there were issued by the said king the constitutions underwritten for the reformation and amelioration of his realm, and by him published and the general observation of them demanded by his authority.

Mandate to the said Master Henry to pay him 600 marks in full payment of the said 1000l.

Bond to William de la Hole in 80 marks to be paid out of the first issues of the mine lately found in the county of Devon for the whole land, meadow and wood which he has in la Hole and which he has granted to the king for ever, on condition that he shall have all the issues of the said land and meadow as well in corn and hay and other things until he be satisfied of the said 80 marks, saving to the king the vesture of the said wood, but so that the king shall not cause any of the vesture of the said wood to be taken until the said money is paid to him.

Pardon to Hugh de Haneberg for cutting off the hand of Richard son of Walter le Sauvage, as it appears by inquisition made by Robert Walerand that he fled to church for this and as well for fear of gaol as of his enemies falsely acknowledged that he had killed a certain John de Den in the forest of Dene, for which reason he abjured the realm.

Grant for life to Raymond, vicomte of Turenne, of 195 pounds of Tours a year at the Purification by the hands of the seneschal of the Limousin, Périgord and Quercy from the 'commune' of Perigord (de commune Petragor') or other issues of the king's lands in those parts, if the said 'comune' fail for any reason; on condition that he may be able by justice to recall knights' fees alienated in mortmain or in the hand of burgesses and that in this he be aided by the seneschal if he require him. Likewise, if anyone without the king's power attack him with arms, he may defend himself and his lands with arms, and if necessary attack, provided that no prejudice arise hereby to the king or his seneschal, to prevent their doing justice to those who complain of him. Further, if the king by pretext of the peace with the king of France, can sue anything which the king of France could sue as due for the keeping of castles or expenses for them or by reason of offence committed by him of the time that the vicomte held his land of the king of France, the king will not sue it of the vicomte.

Grant to Guy de Turenna, clerk, brother of Raymond vicomte of Turenne, of 150 pounds of Tours payable at the Purification, during pleasure, from the 'commune' of Périgord, or the other issues of the king's lands in the dioceses of Limoges, Périgueux and Cahors by the hands of the seneschal of those parts if the said 'commune' should fail.

Whereas the king hears that merchants of Spain who used to come with ships and merchandise to Suhampton, to the profit of that town and those parts, by reason of certain exactions beyond the due and ancient customs avoid the town; he grants to them that they may come there and be lodged in the capital manses sometime of Walter le Flemeng and Walter Isanberd with their merchandise, without impediment of the king's bailiffs, doing the due and ancient customs; and if any other customs are taken from any other merchants lodged in the said houses, on account of any grants to the said burgesses, the king wills that such exactions shall only be made from the said merchants according to the form of the king's grants; for seven years.

Bond to Master Nicholas, archdeacon of Ely, the treasurer, king's clerk, in 210 marks to be paid on the quinzaine of Trinity which the archdeacon received as a loan from Luke de Luke and his fellows merchants of Florence, in order to pay by order of the king made to him by writs of Liberate to wit, to H. de Bohun, earl of Hereford, 100 marks for furnishing the castles late of the earl of Gloucester which are in his keeping, 60 marks to the vicomte of Turenne, 30 marks to Durand de Monte Alto and 20 marks to Poncius de Gordonio as a gift from the king; which loan at the instance of the king, he received from the said merchants because at the time there was no money at hand in the treasury for this purpose.

Grant to Geoffrey le Sauvage, for a fine of 100s. paid in the wardrobe, of the wardships of the lands and heirs of Philip le Ku, tenant in chief, with the marriage of the heirs.

Grant, at the instance of Hugh le Bigot, to Benedict de Rochemadur and Robert Jurnal his fellow, merchants of Bordeaux, that they may have 120 tuns of wine which they brought from Gascony to England in a ship called la Maelote of Erwell quit of all prise except the ancient prise; with mandate to William de Porstok, chamberlain of London and Sandwich, and the takers of the king's wines in England, to permit this.

Notification to Louis, king of France, of the appointment of Simon Passelewe, Aubert le Provost and Master John de Pontesio as the king's proctors in the cause which Reynold de Pontibus and Margaret his wife have against the king in the court of the king of France, touching the castle of Bergerac, in the instant parliament of the octaves of Whitsunday; with power to swear on the king's soul any kind of oath, and to do all other things which lawful proctors can do. Nevertheless the king ratifies whatever is done for him in the whole parliament of the king of France after the quinzaine of the Purification by his clerks Raymond de Bovisvilla, his kinsman, and the said Simon and Master John, his proctors sent in the above cause; and this is notified to the said king and to the adverse party.

Notification to the said Louis that, in the above cause, the king ratifies whatever his proctors, the above Raymond, Simon and Master John did on the quinzaine of the Purification and subsequent days, when the said Reynold and Margaret produced witnesses, in protesting in the king's name against the persons and evidence of the said witnesses and in their other arguments, defences and exceptions.

Pardon to Robert de la Funtaine, who was outlawed for fellowship of robbery and larceny, upon being appealed thereof in the county of Norfolk by Ralph de Cokefeld, who was hanged some time ago, of his said outlawry, as it appears by inquisition made by John de Cokefeld that he was appealed thereof by hatred and not because he was guilty.

Whereas the king and P. archbishop of Bordeaux each assert that the castles of Bigarroque (Brigaroca), Belves (de Bello Videre), Millac (de Milliaco), Couse (de Gosa), la Mothe Montravel (de Monte Revelli), the mota of St. Paixent (de mota Sancti Paxencii), with their boroughs, manors, and appurtenances, are his; and the king gave power to P. bishop of Perigueux, William, prior of Le Mas d'Agenais, that after the archbishop shall have obtained corporal possession of them, they shall hear plainly and without the din of judgement (sine strepitu judicii) the arguments of both parties and receive the instruments and witnesses if the king thinks fit to produce any, and the propositions on both sides, and adjudge and assign the said castles to whichever party they ought to be assigned; and whereas it has been agreed between them that if the said bishop, whom the archbishop appointed for this business, cannot or will not attend to it, the archbishop may substitute another in his place, and the king in like manner) may appoint another in the place of the said prior and the said prior cannot attend; the king has substituted in his place Raymond, vicomte of Turenne.

Whereas the king granted to Guy, count of St. Pol, that he would restore to him his hereditary rights in the realm which William de Fortibus, earl of Albemarle, sometime held, as soon as the king could release them from the hands of the heirs of the said earl, and the said heirs are still minors whereby the king cannot according to law and the custom of the realm release the said inheritance from their hands during their minority, he has granted to the count that he and his heirs shall receive the fee of 200l. which he receives at the Exchequer until the king has delivered the said inheritance out of the hands of the said heirs, or has assigned to them other lands of that value, after which the king shall be quit of the said fee to the count and his heir.
