Jan. 8.
Eton.
1. M. Constable to Sir Ambrose Cave. Cannot suffer certain enormities and abuses to exist without notice. Incloses,
1. i. Statement of the doings and orders of the Commissioners of Musters within the county of Warwick, detailing many abuses.
Jan. 14. 2. Account of sums of money received by Sir John Masone by several warrants, from 1st Nov. 1558, with details of the expenditure thereof.
Jan. 14. 3. Marq. of Winchester to Sir Wm. Cecill. The Lord Admiral has delivered to Mr. Bashe the great book of provisions for the navy. The store-house at Crossed Friars must be had; the brew-house and fresh water must be supplied for Portsmouth.
Jan. 15.
Bletshoe.
4. Oliver Lord St. John of Bletshoe to the Council. Has received the Queen's letters for sending demi-lances and other horsemen to Newcastle.
Jan. 16. 5. Note of armour thought meet to be continually reserved in the Tower, for preservation of the Queen's royal person.
Jan. 20 (?) 6. Proposal by the Queen for reducing her coin to the state it was in before her father's wars at Boulogne; with the reasons moving her thereunto.
Jan. (?) 7. Estimate of a proportion of moneys of two ounces fine, to be made out of the base moneys now current, into small moneys.
Jan. 21.
Lathom House.
8. Edw. Earl of Derby to Cecill. Has appointed the gentlemen of the county of Lancaster to muster with their horses, armour, &c. before him on the 29th of January. It is not possible they can be at Newcastle by the 1st of February.
Jan. 22.
Warwick.
9. Robert Throkemorton and Tho. Lucy to the Council. Did not receive the Queen's letters till the 21st, for sending demi-lances and other horsemen to Newcastle.
Jan. 22
Ferrybridge.
10. Fr. Earl of Shrewsbury to Cecill. Concerning the raising demilances, &c. to be sent to Newcastle. Has appointed Sir Tho. Gargrave to be his Vice-President during his absence.
Jan. 28. Grant of arms to John Weld, gentleman, haberdasher of London, son of John Weld, of Eton, Chester, by Sir G. Dethick, Garter. [See Grant of Arms, No. 9.]
Jan. 11. Note of the yearly value of the Manor of Stansted, Essex.
Jan. (?) 12. List of Bishops elect; containing some who were not Bishops as here assigned, as Dr. Pilkington for Winchester.
