Mar. 1. 62. Deposition by Ro. Higford, relative to his communications with Tho. Cobham; and his conference with Lord Cobham to stand surety for him for a loan of 40l. negociated by Mr. Good.
Mar. 1. 63. Johan Lover to Lord Burghley. Progress of the copper mines. Great delay caused by the contentious dealing of some of the Company. Is ready to submit his accounts to be examined when Burghley thinks fit.
Mar. 4. 64. Notes of evidence against Lord Montague, concerned in the intended marriage between the Duke of Norfolk and Queen of Scots.

65. Sir Tho. Gresham to Burghley. Prays him to remember his request for removal of Lady Mary Grey. State of the Queen's debts in Flanders. Has sent home Derrick, the surgeon, who had brought his leg to some good pass.
Mar. 6. 66. Robert Hogan to same. Information of one Digby, Stukeley's man, who was most privy of his master's doings relative to Ireland. The Duke of Alva is preparing many ships in Flanders.
Mar. 11. 67. Christopher Baker to [the Council?]. Complains of the great waste of oak timber in the County of Sussex fit for the building of ships. List of the names of woodbrokers in Sussex.
Mar. 12. 68. Giles Lambarde to Burghley Proposals for farming all foreign oils and soap made or imported into England.
Mar. 12. 69. Comparative estimates of the expenses of six, four, or ten ships, and the three galleys.

70. Tho. Fayrfax to Burghley. Explains the doings of his servants in removing the goods from Hinderskelf Castle; the surmises against them are utterly false. His proceedings in taking inventories there. Incloses,
70. i. Inventory of all the goods and implements remaining in Hinderskelf Castle, belonging to the Duke of Norfolk, taken by Tho. Fayrfax, Sheriff of Yorkshire. 27 Jan. 1572.
70. ii. John Blenerhayset to Tho. Fayrfax. Demanding that the goods taken from Hinderskelf Castle, during the absence of Richard Longley, keeper of the said Castle, should be immediately restored. London, 22 Feb. 1572.
Mar. 15. 71. Account of the supply of ordnance, munition, and other necessaries for the full furniture of twenty-three ships and galleys appointed to the seas, with an estimate of what will remain after their equipment.
Mar. 16. 72. John Lonyson to Burghley. Desires he may enjoy the farming of the Mint according to his grant thereof. Incloses,
72. i. Note of the last offer of Mr. Martin relative to the farming of the Mint.
Mar. 20. 73. Alexander Nowell, Dean of St. Paul's, to same. The Duke of Norfolk is in want of certain necessary apparel. Ill state of the Duke's health, who now seems weary of his unhappy life.

74. Sir Arthur Champernowne to Lord Burghley. Notifies many ships are preparing in Brest, St. Malo, and other ports on the French coast. The force he has is too small to encounter them.
Mar. 24. 75. Edward Dering to same. Requests that Thomas Cartwright might be permitted to return to England. Proposes that on the departure of [Anthony Rodolph] Cevallerius Cartwright should be appointed to fill his place as Hebrew Professor in the University of Cambridge. Lat.
Mar. 25. 76. Caspar Vosberghius to same. Urges him to solicit the Queen for a grant of certain privileges to the Church at Stamford. Lat.

77. George Lord Audley to same. Apologizes for not having hitherto written to him. Has feared to intrude on his important cares and occupations. Lat. [This is clearly dated March 26, 1571, which, from the indorsement, appears to be an error for 1572.].
Mar. 28. 78. Offer of John Lonyson to farm the working of the Mint, giving for every pound weight of gold, 2s. 6d., and 9d. for every pound weight of silver.
[Mar. 28.] 79. Note of what the Farmer of the Mint is to gain yearly paying the Queen 12d. on every pound weight of silver coined. [Indorsed by Burghley, "First offer."]
[Mar. 28.] 80. Offer for farming the Mint, on the same principle as in the 32nd Henry VIII. [Indorsed, "The offer of 9dLañison's last offer."]
[Mar. 28.] 81. Proposal that the Queen should for one or two years make trial of the offer for farming the Mint. [Indorsed, "The laste offer—Lañyson, 2s. upon gold, 9d. uppon silver."]
