April 7. Memorial from the Excise Commissioners presenting Edward Cornwall and Edward Wrotesley as Sub-Commissioners of Excise for co. Hereford, same having been recommended to the Lord Treasurer by the Members of Parliament serving for said county: all in place of William Selfe and William Walker, the present Sub-Commissioners, who are complained of for mismanagement. Ordered: Allowed of. [Ibid. XI. p. 112.]
[?April 18.] Petition from George Holloway of London, merchant, concerning his bonds for Albion Mottershead. Referred: to the Customs Commissioners. [Ibid. X. p. 69.]
April 21. Memorial from the Commissioners for Arrears of Excise concerning the case of Thomas Williams and William Seawell, late farmers of Excise in Oxford and Buckingham for three years from 1658, March 25, at a rent of 8,300l. per an. The said farm was reassumed by the state 1659, Sept. 15, since which time they never acted. Their arrears amount to 3,982l. 9s. 0d. Propose to accept a composition of 1,300l. for same. Ordered: the composition allowed of and the said farmers to be recommended to the Barons of the Exchequer for discharge. [Ibid. XI. pp. 113–4.]
The Duke of Albemarle's permit, read and entered, for Thomas Pigott (Master of the Court of Wards and Liveries in Ireland, and one of the Commissioners sent from the Privy Council there to attend the King) to ship for Ireland 16 horses. Order for the allowance of same accordingly. [Ibid. X. p. 69.]
April 25. The Duke of Albermarle's permit, read and entered, for permission to the Bishop of Cork (one of the Commissioners sent from the Privy Council in Ireland to attend His Majesty) to transport his coach and six horses to Ireland. Order for the observance of this warrant. [Early Entry Book X. p. 73.]
April 27. Petition from John Troute, Receiver of Kent, Surrey, and Sussex, praying that the officers of the Exchequer may take 300l. of the usurper's coin which he has in his hand, having been received before March 1 last. Order to the Exchequer to receive the same. [Ibid. III. p. 269.]
April 30. Petition from Christopher Hunt, of Barnstaple, collector in the north part of Devonshire of the 18 months' assessment, concerning, 200l. worth of usurper's money which the sheriff refused to take from him, although tendered before the expiration of the term limited by the proclamation. Ordered: the Receiver to accept the same and pay it into the Exchequer or where it is assigned. [Ibid. p. 272.]
