Treasury warrant to Sir Edwin Stede, Receiver of the Casual Revenue, Barbados (or John Whetstone, his deputy in said office), and Edward Cranfeild, Clerk of the Naval Office there, to cancel and discharge without prosecution all such bonds relating to ships as have been entered into before their Majesties' accession, for the due discharge and landing of the enumerated goods of that island in all such cases where said Stede etc. shall be satisfied that the ships have made a right discharge of their lading (even if without proper return of the certificate of such discharge signed by the proper offices of the Customs in such port of discharge): all ut supra, p. 558. An account is hereby to be taken of all other such bonds of ships which have not so discharged by the production of certificates in accordance with law and is to be returned to the Treeasury for the King's further direction therein. Treasury subscription for the execution of a warrant from the Earl of Dorset, Lord Chamberlain, to the Earl of Montagu, Master of the Great Wardrobe, for the delivery out of the said Wardrobe to Francis Russell, Governor of Barbados, of two cushions for the reading desk, a cushion and cloth for the pulpit, a carpet for the altar (all of crimson damask with silk fringe), two linen cloths for the altar, two surplices of fine Holland, one large Bible, two large and six lesser Common Prayer Books for the use of his Majesty's chapel there. April 17. Report to the King from the Treasury Lords on the petition of Sir William Gore et al. ut supra, p. 581, referred to us by Order in Council of the 12th inst. We have referred same to the Customs Commissioners and agree with their report (a) infra. Warrants not Relating to Money XIV, pp. 283–4
Enclosing: (a) said report from the Customs Commissioners dated April 16. Petitioners bought at Bristol in July last 310 casks of Muscovado sugar of the growth of his Majesty's Plantations, to send same to Stade in Sweden, and as no English shipping with convoy offered they laded same in a Swedish ship to secure them from French privateers, and consigned same to Joachim Vandersta, a natural Swedish subject, by bill of lading expressing therein that same were for his account: the ship was taken and carried into Morlaix, but the Swedish Envoy here [in England] Monsieur Leyoncrona, interposed and claimed the sugar in the name of said Vandersta, but by the treachery of the master it was condemned and exposed for sale; Vandersta's agent bought said sugar without notice to these petitioners, who are notwithstanding liable to Vandersta for the sum for which it was bought, and unless the sugars be fetched from France by a Swedish ship they will have a double loss and the enemy a double profit. “It has been usual in all times of war for English merchants to pass their entries and take out their cocquets and other despatches in strangers' names and to ship their goods in foreign ships to colour them from the enemy at sea.” Petitioners have deposed that the goods were theirs, although consigned to Vandersta, and Monsieur Leyonbergh has appeared before us and attested that at their desire he did patronize the said goods for them and endeavoured to prevent a condemnation by entering a claim for same in the name of Vanderaa. There are before us divers instances of royal grace and favour to subjects to redeem their goods and put them in the same condition they were before capture and giving them passes to pursue their first intended voyages. We have nothing to object to a similar favour in this case.
[?] The Treasury Lords to the Lords Justices, Ireland, to report on the enclosed report [missing] from the Attorney General to the King on the petition of Richard, Visct. Colchester, and Francis Sarsfeild of London, esq., relating to the charging of the several estates of Patrick Sarsfeild and Sir Thomas Hacket in Ireland (now in the King's hands) with the payment of certain debts secured to petitioners before the outlawry for high treason of the said Patrick and Sir Thomas. Dursley, Envoy to the States General; 5,000l. on 26 Aug., 1690, on another bill of exchange payable to said Visct., being part of 20,000l. promised by the King for the help of the Vaudois; 5,000l. on 31 Oct., 1690, by a bill of exchange payable to said Visct. at the Hague: making 18,000l. in all: and further said Earl similarly received from the Earl of Ranelagh, Paymaster of the Forces, 2,000l. on 19 April, 1693, for the King's special service; and from Henry Guy, Secretary to the Treasury, 2,000l. on 26 Jan., 1692–3, for the King's particular secret service, and 100l. on 18 Aug., 1693, to be disposed of according to such directions as said Earl of Nottingham had received from the King: making in all the said 22,100l.: as to all which the King is well satisfied that the said several sums have been duly applied and paid over according to the said directions from time to time. Treasury reference to Mr. Blathwayt of the petition of Charles, Lord Baltimore, shewing that there is a duty of 14d. per ton due to him for anchorage of all ships and vessels anchoring in any of the ports or harbours of Maryland: that during the time of the Convention in Maryland and so long as Col. Lyonel Copley lived Governor there petitioner was hindered by the said late Governor from collecting same for the years 1690, 1691, 1692, in which time the said duties amounted to 1,373l. 18s. 6d.: therefore praying an order to Mr. Knight [Customs Cashier] to pay out of such bills for port duties in 1691 as were delivered into his hands 553l. 16s. 4d. (being what the said port duties amounted to in that year) and 169l. due to petitioner on the Treasury warrant, of 1691–2, Jan. 28, supra, Calendar of Treasury Books, Vol. IX, p. 1466; and that Mr. Knight may be empowered to demand from Mr. Paggen, Mr. Hutchinson or any others [agents for Maryland] the money in their or any other persons' hands for the port duties for 1692, by the assignment and order of said Col. Copley, the duty of that year amounting to 418l. 2s. 8d., and pay it over to petitioner, and that what shall be wanting to complete his demands may be made good out of the import of 1s. “for this last shipping.” Reference Book VII, p. 42. Royal warrant to the Lords Justices, Ireland, to order the felling of 200 tons of timber in several woods in the Earl of Clancarty's forfeited estate near the city of Cork such as John Naish or the Purveyor of the Navy there shall mark as unfit for the Navy and to deliver same to the Earl of Inchiquin for the rebuilding of a large mansion. house adjoining that city, which had been left standing by the Governor thereof under King James's Government when the other part of the suburbs were fired, being under the command of the fort in a place where it could no way annoy the besieged, but which was burned by the Earl of Clancarty (out of particular revenge to William, Earl of Inchiquin, petitioner's father) on the approach of King William's forces to the town. Royal warrant to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal for a grant to Charles, Duke of Bolton (in consideration of many good and faithful services), of all the farms, messuages etc. in the parish of Ranton, co. Stafford, and of the castle called Stafford Castle and the lands called Harvington Hall and the manor of Chaddesley Corbett and the salt pans in or near the town of Droitwich and the tenement or holding called Ricketts Hall, the close called Mill Orchard, the place called Lower-ham and the third part of the house and lands called Woodenfarm: to hold for 61 years at the several yearly rents of 91l. 5s. 0d. for the premises in Ranton, 100l. for Harvington Hall, Chaddesley Corbett manor, the salt pits and other the premises late of Dame Mary Yates and 20l. 5s. 0d. for Woodenfarm: it being found (by inquisition taken at Wolverhampton 1690, May 16, before Walter Bagnold et al.) that Francis Harcourt of Ranton, in trust for the Society of Jesuits at St. Omer, was seized in his demesne as of fee of and in the said lands at Ranton of the yearly value of 365l; and that Mary, Viscountess Stafford, relict of William, late Visct. Stafford, and his son and heir were likewise seized of and in the castle called Stafford Castle and lands etc. thereto of the value of 400l per an. in all and that before the date of said inquisition they had conveyed same to a certain person called Cardinal Howard and to several other persons, unknown, in trust for the Society called the College or Society de Propaganda Fide in the city of Rome for ever to the end that the said society should celebrate 4,000 Masses yearly for 51 years for the soul of said William, late Visct. All which premises were seized into the King's hands by virtue of said inquisition:
And further by inquisition taken at Sidbury [? Sedgeberrow], co. Worcester, 1690, May 20, before the said Bagnold it was found that Dame Mary Yates, widow of Sir John Yates, bart., conveyed the said Harvington Hall and manor of Chadsley Corbett to a certain person called Father Constable, alias Father Dominick, then Rector of the Society of English Jesuits in the College of St. Omer, in trust to pay 400l. per an. to the maintenance of the Society of English Jesuits of St. Omer for ever in consideration that the said Society should pray for the soul of the said Sir John Yates and for the health of said Dame Mary and her family: and further that she did convey the said. salt pans near Droitwich, the said tenement called Ricketts Hall, then in the tenure of John Watts, and the close called Mill Orchard and the place called Lowerham, near the said salt pits, being all of the yearly value of 700l., to the said Father Dominick in trust to pay 200l. per an. for the maintenance of the Society of English Jesuits of St. Omer for ever in consideration that the said Society should pray in manner as aforesaid:
And [further it was found at the said last named inquisition] that John Walsteed, late of Witching-ford, co. Worcester, by his will devised his third of the house and lands of Woodenfarm in the parish of Witchingford, being of the value of 81l. per an., to a person called Father Smith, then missionary for the English Seminary Priests residing in the monastery or College of Douai in trust for the use and maintenance of the said priests for ever to pray for the said Walsteed's soul:
All which premises were also seized into the hands of the Crown by the Commissioners for the said inquisition:
And further by the said inquisition taken in Staffordshire it was found that Walter Fowler, esq., was seized of and in the mansion house and lands of St. Thomas, co. Stafford, otherwise called the manor of Sow, near the town of Stafford, of which manor the two manors or lordships of Coaton [Coton] and Alverton are parcel, and also of and in several houses etc. in the town of Stafford of the yearly value of 360l. in all, and did (together with his wife and brother, William Fowler, in consideration of 3,000l. paid to him to [sic for by] a certain person called Father Jacob, Provincial of the Order of English Dominicans residing in a certain Monastery near the town of Antwerp, in trust for the said Order, convey the premises in mortgage to the said Father Jacob in trust for the said English Dominicans, on condition to be void when the said Walter[re] should pay said 3,000l. and interest for the use of the said Dominicans:
It is hereby therefore further ordered that a grant be prepared of the Crown's title to the premises to be sued for and recovered by the said Marquess of Winchester [now Duke of Bolton] at his own costs, on proviso that on recovery he pay into the Exchequer one fourth part of the principal money and interest and arrears when so recovered.

April 19. Henry Guy to the Auditor of the Receipt. By mine of the 16th inst. supra, p. 582, you were desired to issue 1,300l. to Mr. Pelham out of seizures, preferable to any other person. My Lords notice in the paper of [Exchequer] cash made up yesterday at noon that there was 1,029l. 10s. 5¾d. of seizures moneys in the Exchequer. It is the King's express pleasure that the said sum be issued to me [Guy] for secret service, notwithstanding the above letter, and also the sum of 541l. 16s. 8d. remaining of forfeitures for treason. Such part of these sums as my order [probably of Nov. 6 last, supra, p. 380] will not bear you are to issue to me by way of advance [and the requisite further money order shall be sent as soon as prepared]. “And further if the seizures be not actually issued [to Pelham] by the Tellers you are to respite the same and issue the money to me as above; his Majesty's service requiring the same.” Disposition Book XII, p. 66.

You are to take especial care that the said orders be duly observed and you are to attend exactly by nine in the morning to deliver out the cash, “and not only [to attend] till between 12 and 1 in the afternoon as the said orders require before you begin to lock up, but also till 2 or 3 of the clock and sometimes longer if their Majesties' service shall seem in the least to require the same.” If any of the Tellers' clerks shall refuse or neglect to attend at the said hours you are to give my Lords notice so that they may be punished by dismission or otherwise.
