The Treasury Lords to the Assessment Commissioners for Co.
Northumberland. It appears that very little of the sum charged
on your County for the present year's Aid has been paid to the
Receiver General and that in several places of the two north Wards
the warrants have not yet come to the hands of the parochial
collectors although by this the third quarterly payment ought to
be in the Receiver General's hands. Also there are great arrears
on the Duties on Houses and on Marriages for the years 1695–8
which are in danger of being lost and some persons industriously
insinuate that those Duties ought not to be longer collected. We
recommend these particulars to your care to give order therein so
that his Majesty's service may no longer suffer. (The like letter

an additional allowance of 5l. each to the weighing porters in London
port in consideration of the great labour and hardship of the duty
of that employment and the loss of certain perquisites, since the
establishment of their old salaries by the falling of certain branches
of the revenue into the King's hands which were formerly in farm
such as smalts, barilia and potashes, for which they were distinctly

The Treasury Lords to the Lords Justices of Ireland. We have
laid before the King your letter of the 4th inst. informing that the
merchants in Ireland have from June 24 last refused the payment
of the fees for wool licences, questioning the authority by which
the same have been received: and that to prevent the hindrance
of trade you have prevailed with them to deposit the said fees
under pledge to return same if the King's pleasure be not signified
to you before January 1 next. |

It is his Majesty's pleasure that the said fees be taken as formerly,
the Attorney and Solicitor General being of opinion that the
merchants are not exempt by the Act of last session to prevent the
exportation of wool from Ireland and England nor does the said
Act excuse the exporters from taking licences as before. If any
