FIVE Clock this Afternoon, for Freze his Bill, in the Former Place.

Committee to meet.

Committee, for Examination of the Complaint against the Gentlemen of Cornewayle, sent for, to meet this Afternoon, in the Exchequer Chamber, and to report to the House To morrow Morning : - Mr. Cooke, Sir M. Sands, Sir Henry Percy, Lord Lamberte, Mr. Goodwynn, Sir Wm. Spring, Mr. Strode, Sir Harbottle Grimston, Sir Wm. Constable, Sir Wm. Pooley, Sir Rich. Tichborne, Sir Ro. Killigrew, Sir Francis Glanvyle, Mr. Valentyne, Lord Matravers, Mr. Whitakers, Mr. Nicholles.

Complaints against Welbey.

Sir W. Earle reporteth from the Committee for Examination of Complaints against Deputy Lieutenants, against Sir Wm. Welbey, a Deputy Lieutenant of the County of Lincolne. - One Complaint, by Palmer and Parks, committed to Lincolne Gaol, for refusing to pay Money towards military Charges : One of them delivered upon Bail, the other still in Prison,- -

Another Complaint against him, by Mr. Terringham Norwood, for levying Money for military Affairs, and converteth it to his own Use, for his Charges in his Deputy Lieutenancy. - Committing to the Gaol for Refusal : Having a Son, and Son-in-Law, Captains, maketh the Soldiers pay 6d. a-piece, at every Muster. -

That this Complaint made the last Parliament, yet no Reformation in him.

Upon Question, Sir Wm. Welbey to be sent for by the Serjeant, to appear in the House To-morrow Morning, and answer, whether he made these Warrants, or not; and then further Consideration to be taken of the Matters complained of against him, and reported to the House.

Conference reported.

Sir Edw. Coke reporteth from the Lords; That, he having delivered what was enjoined him by the House, the Lord of Canterbury answered, according to our Course, they had now only brought their Ears, and not their Tongues ; but would take it into Consideration, and give Answer to us in due Time.

L. 3a. An Act for the Establishing and Confirming of the Foundation of the Hospital of King James, founded in Charter-house, in the County of Middlesex, at the humble Petition, and only Costs and Charges, of Tho. Sutton Esquire, and of the Possessions thereof : - Upon Question, passed.

L. 3a. An Act for the Naturalizing of Sir Robert Dyell, Knight, One of the Gentlemen of his Majesty's Privy Chamber, and George Kirke Esquire, One of the Grooms of his Majesty's Bed Chamber: - Upon Question, passed.

Person committed for Contempt.

Mr. Pymme reporteth from the Committee for Religion, concerning Mr. Burgesse. - That, being put to answer the Matter of Fact, concerning his catechising and paraphrasing, he absolutely refused to answer.

1. Upon Question, Richard Burgesse, Vicar of Whitney in Oxfordshyre, hath committed a Contempt to the House, in refusing to answer at the Committee, having Authority from the House to examine him.

2ly. Upon Question, for this Contempt to this House, to be committed to the Tower, there to remain during the Pleasure of the House.

Resolved, To defer the further Resolution of the Residue of this Business, what Course fittest to be taken, until To-morrow.

He, fetched in to the Bar by the Serjeant, and kneeling, had his Judgment delivered him by Mr. Speaker, for his Imprisonment in the Tower.

Subsidy.

Ordered, The Bill of Subsidy to be read upon Monday next.
