River Meadway.

L. 1a. AN Act for the Making of the River of Meadway navigable for Barges, Boats, and Lighters, from the Town of Maydstone to the Town of Penshurst, in the County of Kent.

Boston Election.

Mr. Hackwill reporteth from the Committee for Privileges, the Case of Boston in Lincolneshyre. - Mr Bellingham the Recorder, and Mr. Okeley, chosen. The Question, whether a select Number, or the Commonalty, were to chuse. Sir A. Irby chosen by Majority of Voices of the Commonalty, and Fourteen of the select Number [a].

Agreed by the Committee, that the Election of Burgesses, in all Boroughs, did, of common Right, belong to the Commoners ; and that nothing could take it from them, but a Prescription, and a constant Usage beyond all Memory.

1. Upon Question, the Right of Election for Burgesses, to serve in Parliament, for Boston, resteth in the Commonalty, and not in the Mayor, Aldermen, and Common Council.

2. Upon Question, Mr. Okeley not duly elected, or returned.

3. That Sir An. Irby duly elected, and ought to have been returned.

4. That the Mayor of Boston shall be sent for, to put out Mr. Okeley's Name, and put in Sir A. Irby's.

Person sent for.

Sir Edw. Coke moveth from the Committee for Grievances, that Pecke, being ordered and warned to bring in his Patent, hath contemned it.

Upon Question, the Serjeant at Arms to go for Pecke, to bring in his Patent, and to answer his Contempt.

Grievances.

The Petition of Judyth Cocks, and her Children, depending before the Committee for Grievances, to be referred to the Committee for Courts of Justice.

Persons to give Security, &c.

The Serjeant informeth the House, that all the Gentlemen, sent for out of Cornewayle, are come up, except Mr. Trevanion; who being sixty Miles further ....

The Serjeant to take Security from them, to appear, when the House calleth for them, and attend the Committee.

Petition of Right.

Mr. Herberte reporteth from the grand Committee, a Draught of a Petition of Right.

Much Dispute about putting-in of some Words; and pressing to the Question.

Upon Question, whether this shall be put to the Question, or not; Resohed, No.

Upon Question, this Petition, in this Manner agreed upon, to be fair written in Paper; and a Conference to

to be desired with the Lords about it, by such as the Lords shall appoint; and that it shall be signified, that this is in Pursuance of former Conferences with their Lordships.

Mr. Secretary Cooke, Mr. Chancellor Duchy, to go presently with the Message.

Privilege. - Imprisonment of a Member.

Sir Henry Stanhopp, remanded from the House to the Marshalseas, imprisoned for Security of the Peace; and having given Security for it, the Command of the House is taken off from him, so as he may come, when he will, into the House.

Sewster's Estate.

L. 1a. An Act for enabling of Samuel Sewster, Gentleman, to sell the Manors of Raveley and Moynes, in the County of Huntingdon, for Payment of his Debts, and raising Portions for his younger Children.

Petition of Right.

Mr. Secretary returneth Answer from the Lords, that the Lords, with Eighteen, will give a Conference with us, at Two of the Clock this Afternoon, in the Painted Chamber.

The former Committee of 36, appointed to meet for this Conference.

1. An Introduction, by Way of Desire of good Correspondence, and Excuse of the Intermission: And then to present the Petition, &c.

Subsidies.

Mr. Littleton reporteth from the grand Committee, that they have resolved Five Subsidies to be presented to his Majesty; Two, the 10th of July next; the 3d, the 20th of October; the 4th, the 20th of December; the 5th, the 1st of March next.

This, upon Question, agreed ; and that Popish Recusants shall pay Subsidy, according as they were appointed the last Meeting in Parliament.

The Bill to be prepared by Mr. Solicitor: The Preamble to be considered of To-morrow Morning, and Mr. Speaker to put them in mind of it.

Guarding the Seas.
