Friday, June 17th, 1659.

Indemnity, &c.

THE House, according to former Order, was this Day resolved into a Grand Committee, upon the Bill of Indemnity; and upon the Petition and Address of the Army.

Mr. Speaker did forbear to take the Chair.
Mr. Say took the Chair.
Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Mr. Say reports from the Grand Committee, That they desire Leave to sit again on Thursday next.

Ordered, That the said Grand Committee have Leave of this House to sit on Thursday next: And that Mr. Speaker do then forbear to take the Chair.

Invalid Soldiers.

Mr. Garland reports from the Committee touching maimed Soldiers and Widows, That the Governors of the Hospitals of the Savoy, and Ely-House, be continued until this House do take further Order.

Ordered, That the Commissioners for Management of the Business relating to the Hospitals of the Savoy and Ely-House be continued for a Month; but that the Money ordered to be issued out be only paid to the Pensioners; and no Part thereof be paid out in Salaries.

Embassy to Holland.

Sir Henry Vane reports from the Council of State, That the Council find it very requisite, at this Season, for a Publick Minister from England to be resident in Holland: And do therefore humbly offer it to the Consideration of the Parliament, Whether Letters of Credence and Instructions may be prepared, and sent, for that Purpose, to Mr. Downing, who is now in Holland; or that they will appoint some other fit Person for that Service; and give their Order, for Instructions to be prepared, accordingly.

Resolved, That this House doth agree with the Council of State, That a Publick Minister be sent from England to be resident in Holland.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, concerning the Sending of a Publick Minister to be resident from this Commonwealth in Holland; and that they have Conference with Colonel Rich (if he be free for that Service) to be the Person to be appointed for that Employment.

Assessment.

Colonel Downes reports from the Committee to whom the Bill for the Assessment was referred, to bring in Names of the Committee for the Army, as they were formerly established by this Parliament, The Opinion of that Committee, that the Bill for the Assessment be passed, as formerly, without Alteration of the Names.

Resolved, That this Bill, so amended, be ingrossed.

Army Commissions.

Colonel Wm. Sydenham, a Member of this House, came from his Place to the Clerk's Table: And, standing there, Mr. Speaker acquainted him with the great Trust and Confidence that the Parliament and Commonwealth reposed in him; and that the Parliament and Commonwealth expects his Faithfulness and Obedience in the Discharge of the Trust reposed in him: And thereupon delivered him his Commission to be Colonel of a Regiment of Foot.

Ditto.

The House being informed, that divers Officers of the Army were at the Door;

They were called in: And, being come to the Clerk's Table, in usual Manner, Mr. Speaker acquainted them with the great Trust and Confidence that the Parliament and Commonwealth reposed in them; and did thereupon deliver unto them several Commissions: Viz.

To Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Allen, his Commission to be Lieutenant-Colonel of Colonel Sydenham's Regiment of Foot:

To Serjeant-Major John Grymes, his Commission to be Serjeant-Major in the said Regiment:

To Lieutenant Benjamin Southwould, his Commission to be Lieutenant of a Company in the said Regiment:

To Captain Richard Wagstaffe, his Commission to be Captain of a Company in the said Regiment:

To Captain John Hunt, his Commission to be Captain of a Company in the said Regiment:

To Lieutenant Thomas Rowe, his Commission to be Lieutenant in that Company:

To Lieutenant Edward Nutt, his Commission to be Lieutenant of a Company in the said Regiment:

To Ensign Richard Sharpe, his Commission to be Ensign of a Company in the said Regiment:

To Captain Stephen West, his Commission to be Captain of a Company in the said Regiment:

To Captain John Davies, his Commission to be Captain of a Company in the said Regiment:

To Captain John Shrimpton, his Commission to be Captain of a Company in the said Regiment:

To Captain-Lieutenant Richard Barker, his Commission to be Captain-Lieutenant of the said Regiment:

To Lieutenant Thomas Smith, his Commission to be Lieutenant of a Company in the said Regiment:
