Roushout's Nat.

A BILL, for the Naturalization of Alice Roushout, was read a Second time.

Resolved, &c. That the said Bill be committed to Sir Edward Masters, Lord Ancram, Sir John Brampston, Sir Lanc. Lake, Sir Anth. Irby, Sir John Covert, Sir John Hotham, Mr. Robert Wright, Mr. Crouch, Mr. Culleford, Mr. Stockdayle, Sir Franc. Russell, Sir Eliab Harvy, Mr. Weld, Serjeant Maynard, Sir Char. Wheeler, Mr. Finch, Sir Tho. Allen, Sir Wm. Tirringham, Mr. Spry, Mr. Daniell, Sir Tho. Lee, Mr. Garraway, Sir Wm. Coventry: And they are to meet this Afternoon, at Two of the Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber: And to send for Persons, Papers, and Records.

Recovery of Tythes.

Ordered, That Sir Philip Musgrave, Mr. Cheney, and Sir Nicholas Slaning, be added to the Committee to which the Bill for Repair of Churches, and Recovery of small Tythes, is committed.

Exporting Leather.

A Bill for the Continuance of a former Act for the Exportation of Leather, was read the Second time.

Privilege.

Resolved, &c. That it be referred to the Committee of Privileges and Elections, to examine the Breach of Privilege committed against the Serjeant at Arms attending this House, in arresting his within a Week after the Prorogation; and to report the Matter, with their Opinions therein, to the House.

Chancery Lane, &c.

A Bill for opening a Passage between Chancery Lane and Lincoln's Inn Fields, was read the Second time.

Resolved, &c. That the said Bill be committed to Sir Lanc. Lake, Sir Wm. Doyley, Sir Nicholas Slaning, Sir Edm. Jenings, Sir Charles Wheeler, Sir Robert Barnham, Sir Wm. Smith, Mr. James, Sir Cha. Harbord, Sir John Talbott, Sir Tho. Allen, Sir Anth. Irby, Sir Hen. Capell, Mr. Westfaling, Sir John Brampston, Sir Phillip Musgrave, Mr. Love, Mr. Rigby, Sir Hen. Goodrick, Mr. Nicholas Morris, Sir Tho. Lee, Mr. Jones, Mr. Serjeant Maynard, Mr. Tho. Morrice, Sir Cha. Cotterell, Mr. Tho. Suppressing Popery.

The House then resolved into a Committee of the whole House, further to consider of effectual Ways for suppressing the Growth of Popery.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Sir Tho. Lee, reports from the Committee of the whole House, That the Committee had agreed several further Resolves, as Heads or Instructions for a Bill for the more easy and speedy Discovery and Convictions of Papists: Which being delivered in at the Clerk's Table; and twice read; which are as followeth; viz.

Resolved, &c. That a Clause be inserted in the Bill for the more easy and speedy Discovery and Conviction of Papists, to regulate and restrain the Attorney General from entering Ulterius nonvult prosequi, upon such as shall be returned Papist Recusants convict, into the Exchequer.

Resolved, &c. That a Clause be inserted in the Bill, for the more effectual Prosecution and Levying the Penalties upon Popish Recusants.

Resolved, &c. That the House be moved to appoint a Committee to draw up a Bill upon the Heads already reported from this Committee.

The Question being put, For omitting the Word "from," in the first Vote of the said Committee; and, instead thereof, insert the Word "in;"

It was resolved in the Affirmative.

The Question being put, For leaving out the Words "upon such as shall be returned Popish Recusants Convict into the Exchequer," in the said first Vote;

It was resolved in the Affirmative.

The Question being put, To agree with the Committee with these Amendments;

Irby, Mr. Garraway, Sir Courtney Poole, Sir Edward Deering, Sir Will. Coventry, Sir Joseph Tredinham, Sir Tho. Clergis, and all the Gentlemen of the Long Robe; or any Three of them: And it is recommended to Sir Charles Harbord, Sir Tho. Meres, and Mr. Sawyer, to take care of the Bill.

Address for removing the Duke of Lauderdale.

Mr. Powle reports from the Committee to whom it was referred to draw up Reasons and Grounds of the Address touching the Duke of Lauderdale, That the said Committee, in order to their preparing such Grounds and Reasons, had examined one Doctor Burnett; and taken his Testimony in Writing: Which he read in his Place: And that they desire the Direction of the House, whether any Use shall be made thereof in the said Grounds or Reasons.

And a Debate arising thereupon;

Resolved, &c. That the Debate thereof be adjourned till Friday Morning, Ten of the Clock.

And then the House adjourned till half an Hour after Two of the Clock in the Afternoon.
