September 1647

Sept. 2.
Goldsmiths' Hall.
81, 82. Committee at Goldsmiths' Hall to the county commissioners. Whereas we ordered sheriffs to proclaim in all the corporations and market towns that all delinquents should come in and pay their fines, yet they do not conform, but still continue peremptory, to the great prejudice of the State,—the receipt of the moneys arising therefrom being charged for supply of the great necessities of the Kingdom,—we hereby revoke all orders of suspension on behalf of the persons whose names are enclosed, and require you to re-sequester their estates, and signify your proceedings thereon. [¾ page.]
Sept. 2. Order of the Committee at Goldsmiths' Hail, that the treasurers summon all citizens and inhabitants of London, bound for delinquents who have not paid the last ½ of their fine, to pay in the sums, or this committee may take further course on their refusal. [G 4, p. 118.]
Sept. 4. 83. Order of the House of Commons, that the Committee at Goldsmiths' Hall take special care that the latter half payable to the Earl of Ormond. on the engagement with him, be paid. Mr. Annesley, Wheeler and Col. Birch to press the business. [Also G 1, p. 185.]
Sept. 8. Certificate by the inhabitants of Tardebigg, that Hewett Fields, and sundry lands specified, are in co. Worcester; that their justices of peace, coroner, and overseers of the poor have always been of Worcestershire, and 4 juries have decided that they belonged to that county where they have paid taxes, and their malefactors have been sent to Worcester gaol, and therefore the inhabitants of Warwickshire will do them great wrong to force any of them to pass into Warwickshire, as they are encompassed with Worcestershire. [G 171, p. 519.]
Sept. 16. 84. Ordinance of Parliament, that 40,000l. arrears being due from delinquents on bond, for fines long since set, the Committee at Goldsmiths' Hall return their names, and the county committees re-sequester their estates, till the remainder of their fines be satisfied. [1 sheet, printed.]
Sept. 21. Order of the Committee at Goldsmiths' Hall, on a Parliament order of 16 Sept., that letters be sent to the county committees where in any delinquent inherits or has an estate, whose report is passed by both Houses, and his latter moiety not paid, giving the name of the delinquent, and one of the printed ordinances. [G 4, p. 121.]
Sept. 21. Committee at Goldsmiths' Hall to the county committees. In pursuance of the Parliament order of 16 Sept., you are forthwith to sequester the estates of the persons whose names are enclosed, till they have satisfied the sums due on their compositions, if they can prove this by certificate; and by the next return, signify your proceedings. [G 4, p. 121.]
Sept. 21. 85, 86. The said Committee to Wm. Hales, messenger. Several sums levied in Kent and Surrey towards the Scottish loan, on ordinances of 16 and 27 Oct. 1643, are retained by the collectors and others. You are to enquire after and demand all such sums, and bring up those who refuse to pay in custody. With 10 names in the margin of persons concerned, and with 2 blank letters to like effect, 28 Sept. [Also G 4, p. 121.]
Sept. 28. Order of the Committee at Goldsmiths' Hall, that the treasurers state in writing, signed, the facts in Lord Ormond's business, on which an order was made Sept. 4, so that the obstruction may be reported to the House. [G 4, p. 122.]
Sept. 28. Parliament order that the treasurers for maimed soldiers receive the moneys appointed to be paid from Goldsmiths' Hall to the gun-makers, sadlers, money lenders, and others who performed service or suffered loss in the expedition under Lord Brooke, and issue them to the persons to whom they are due. [G 89, p. 121.]
