I no. 249 p. 191); manor conf. to bp. by pope 30 Jan. 1126 (ibid. no. 248), 28 Apr. 1139 (ibid. no. 249), 9 Feb. 1146 (ibid. no. 251), 13 Apr. 1149 (ibid. no. 250), and 6 June 1163 (ibid. no. 254); churches not included in papal confs. of prebs. 6 Feb. 1146 (ibid. no. 252) and 5 June 1163 (ibid. no. 255); preb. prob. founded after gr. of portion of tithes of Spaldwick to preb. Sanctae Crucis, 1109 × 46 (list 56); tithes of bp.'s demesne and two-thirds of parishioners' tithes of 'Stou' (? Stow Longa or Stow St. Mary) conf. as preb. by pope 6 Feb. 1146 (R.A.L. I no. 252 p. 199), and again, certainly Stow Longa, 5 June 1163 (ibid. no. 255 p. 207). Vicarage of Long Stow ordained Dec. 1226 × Dec. 1227 (C.U.L., Dd. 10. 28 fo. 100v, referring to damaged roll of 18 bp. Hugh, cf. Rot. Welles III 54). First mentioned as preb. 1254 (Val. Norwich p. 278). Vicar of Spaldwick first mentioned 10 Sept. 1248 (Rot. Grosseteste p. 296). Pres. of vicar of Spaldwick by preb. 31 March 1266 (Rot. Gravesend p. 170).
