Church of Dunholme (Lincs., part of royal manor of Nettleham (D.B. I 338b), acquired by bp. c. 1100, Regesta II nos. 534-6 = R.A.L. I nos. 15, 61-2), and church of St. John, Newport, Lincoln, with 2 half-carucates, and a messuage in High St., and portion of tithes and 1 carucate in Hougham (Lincs.), gr. 'in prebendam' by bp. Alexander 1123 × 45 (R.A.L. II no. 333); (fn. 1) conf. as preb. by pope 6 Feb. 1146 (ibid. no. 252 p. 198) and 5 June 1163 (ibid. no. 255 p. 205). See also Dij/69/2/40, 77/1/11. Vicarage of preb. ordained 1305 (Reg. II fo. 87v).

Humphrey

Perhaps chapl. of bp. Alexander (1123-48) (cf. cart. Thorney II fos. 409v, 410r). First preb., occ. at foundation of this preb., 1123 × 45 (R.A.L. II no. 333; cf. I no. 252 p. 198). Occ. as can. in L.P. I, of c. 1132 (app. 2 no. 33). Subdean by ? c. 1133; last occ. 21 Sept. 1160, and had been succeeded before 19 Apr. 1161; presum. d. Nov. 1160 (list 6). If preb. Leighton Ecclesia was assigned to subdeanery by bp. Alexander, Humphrey presum. transf. from this preb. to Leighton Ecclesia before 25 Feb. 1148 (list 45).

William Turonensis (fn. 2)

Occ. as this preb. c. 1175 × 1180 (R.A.L. IX no. 2422). Does not otherwise occ. Prob. not to be identified with William Tur' who occ. as can. in L.P. I, of ? c. 1132 (app. 2 no. 5; below p. 150), as Humphrey was preb. then (above).

M. William de Thornaco

Archdcn. of Stow from between 5 Oct. 1213 and 27 Feb. 1214 (list 14); archdcn. of Lincoln by 22 May 1219 (list 7); dean by 12 March 1223; became a Cistercian at Louth Park 1239/40 (list 2). Occ. as this preb. throughout his career: as archdcn. of Stow, 25 Nov. 1218 (R.A.L. II no. 557); as archdcn. of Lincoln, Apr. 1219 × Sept. 1222 (ibid. VIII no. 2205); as dean, May 1237 × 1239 (ibid. nos. 2206-7).

M. William of Winchcombe (fn. 3)

Clk. of Robert of Hailes, archdcn. of Huntingdon, 1218 (Rot. Welles I 191). Not yet can. 26 Sept. 1225 (cart. Alvingham fo. 4v). First occ. as can. (unident. preb.) 20 March 1226 (Rot. Welles II 213). First occ. as this preb. 22 Aug. 1240 (R.A.L. VIII no. 2200). Last occ. 1245 × 50 (ibid. no. 2299, cf. no. 2298, of Michaelmas 1244 × Michaelmas 1245). D. before 16 June 1252 (R.A.L. VIII no. 2229; (fn. 4) cf. IX no. 2542).

Simon de Barton

First certain occ. as can. c. March 1254 (R.A.L. X no. 2692), but prob. already can. 20 Nov. 1253 (C.P.R. 1247-58 p. 252). Occ. as this preb. 22 Sept. 1260 (Dij/69/2/40), and 1275 (Rot. Hund. I 328b; cf. R.A.L. VIII no. 2216). Archdcn. of Stow by 12 Apr. 1264; d. 1280 (list 14).

M. Thomas de Perrariis (fn. 5)

First occ. as can. (unident. preb.) Michaelmas 1273 × Michaelmas 1274 (R.A.L. VIII nos. 2282, 2329). Provost of the Common 1278 × 79 (VC 2/1 no. 226). First occ. as this preb. 1280 × 86 (R.A.L. VIII no. 2202), but perhaps succeeded Simon de Barton before 29 Sept. 1281 (ibid. X no. 2698). Master of the fabric 9 March 1284 (L.S. I 286-7). Last occ. as this preb. in year Sept. 1304 - Sept. 1305 (Edwards, Sec. Caths. p. 327). D. as this preb. before 11 Nov. 1305 (Reg. II fo. 279v), perhaps already d. by 15 May (R.A.L. IX no. 2516).
