LIST 9 BISHOPS OF LLANDAFF

Bps. of south-east Wales originally described themselves as 'Teilo's bp.'. Before 1107 'Gwlad Morgan' (Glamorgan) had been adopted. The title 'bp. of Llandaff' was used by bp. Urban from c. 1119 (LL p. 30; Llandaff Acta p. xxxvi).

Herewald (fn. 1)

His predecessor, Joseph, d. in Rome c. 1045 (Brut Peniarth Text p. 18a; Brut Peniarth Transl. p. 14; Brut Red Book pp. 24-5; Ann. Camb. p. 24). Herewald cons. by abp. Cynesige of York 23 May 1059 in London, according to Llandaff source (LL pp. 265-6), (fn. 2) but said in English sources to have been appd. by kg. William I and cons. by abp. Lanfranc 1071 (Diceto I 203; Episcopal Acts II 608 (L4) = Canterbury, Chartae Antiquae C. 117 m. 2d; cf. Cant. Profs. pp. xc-xci). Susp. by abp.
