Bochardby. 43a. land held of the said heirs in dower by service of 12 ½d.cornage.
The heirs of Ralph de Bochardby are the next heirs, and of full age.

42. William Belet.
Writ, to enquire whether the said William sometime enfeoffed Henry de Novo Burgo of the manor of Swere, with the homage and services of John de Turri and his heirs tenants of the manor of Berewik, which is a member of the manor of Swere, as is said, so that John de la Lynde died seised thereof, as Walter his son and heir says. 20 May, 1 Edw. I.
Dorset. Inq. Tuesday in Whitsun week, 1 Edw. I.
Swere. The said William sometime enfeoffed Henry de Novo Burgo and his heirs &c. of the said manor, but neither he nor William de Monte Acuto, Geoffrey de Nevill and Helewysa his wife, nor John de la Lynde, tenants of the manor of Swere, had seisin of the homage and service of John de Turry, by successive assignment. The said William died seised thereof, but never yet has the said John de Turry done homage or service to his heir or to any one else. The said William held all his lands of the king in chief by barony, but sold them in parcels, so that nothing remained but this homage &c. of John de Turry lately deceased, whose heir is in the king's wardship. 43. John son of Hugh de Vyvon[ia].
Wilts. Proof of age, 9 July, 1 Edw. I.
Henry Crok, knight, says the said John was born at Sellyng in co. Kent, of Petronilla de Vyvonia on Whitsunday 36 Henry III, and added that he knew this because Hugh de Vyvonia the said John's father was killed in Wales about the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Mary fifteen years ago, and then the said John was 6 years old, which he knew because he was of the household (familiaris) of Walter de Dunstanvill a neighbour of the said Hugh and was often at West Kington co. Wilts, where he often heard the said John's age recited; he also has a son named Roger who was born about the same feast.
Robert de Cerne agrees, and added that he knew it by the relation of Petronilla mother of the said John, and of Joan his nurse who seven years ago was in his service.
Henry Herberti agrees, and says that on Wednesday in the week of the said feast he was in his house at Dodeston near the said Hugh's manor of Kyngton when report came that the said Petronilla had borne the said John, and he has a son named William who was born on the same day.
Nicholas Lucas agrees, and says he knew it because he married his wife on All Souls day previous, and often in that year spent the night in the house of his friend Adam Ive at Kington in going to and from Bristol, and often heard tell of the age of the said John.
William Bayllemunt agrees, adding that he knew it because Richard his brother was born three days before the said feast, and friends of his were killed with the said Hugh.
Reginald Burel agrees, and he knew it because Reginald his brother, a monk of Stanle, was born on the day of the Holy Trinity following.
Richard de Shefton agrees, and he knew it because he was with Henry de Aulton then steward of William le Fort, brother of the said Hugh, at Wodemeresthorn, co. Surrey on Tuesday in that week of Whitsuntide when the news came; and his own mother died at the feast of St. John the Baptist following.
James de Crundewell agrees, adding that he knew it by the relation of trustworthy men at West Kington shortly after the said Whitsunday, and he had a son named James who was born 8 days before.
Simon de Mordon agrees but does not recollect as to the day; he was with William de Calne the subescheator of Wilts fifteen years ago when, immediately after the death of the said Hugh, he seized the manor of West Kington into the king's hand, and it was found by inquisition that the said John, whom he saw with his mother, was 6 years old.
John de Bluntesdon agrees, and says that he knew it because his sister Nazarena was married on All Souls day previous in the same year at Tuderinton near West Kyngton, where the aforesaid John was brought up.
Roger de Bury agrees, and says he knows it by the relation of trustworthy men of Yatton and Kyngton, and added that he was attending the business of Patrick de Cadurcio on the day that the said Hugh was killed, and learned that the said John was 6 years old.
William Whytsand agrees, and says he knows it by the relation of his mother then living near West Kington, and that his brother Richard was born 15 days before the said feast.

44. Avelina the wife of Edmund the King's brother, daughter and heir of William sometime earl of Albemarle.
Commencement of a writ to the escheator _ Edw. I.
Proof of age (undated).
Ralph de Bray, knight, says that the said Avelina was 14 on the day of SS. Fabian and Sebastian last, and he knows it because she was in his keeping (custodia) when he was warden of the castle of Scarbrok, and was then 5 or 6, and 9 years have elapsed since he restored that castle to the said countess his lady.
Geoffrey de Fanencurt says the same, for his lady, Amice countess of Devon, grandmother of the said Avelina, related it to him.
The prior of Thueyt says the same, for the said earl was patron of that house, and in his register of Martyrs was written the nativity of the said Avelina and of other children of the earl, and she was brought up in that house.
William de Kyleby, canon of the same priory, agrees with the prior.
John de Meaus says the same, for he lived (stetit) with the earl, and last Whitsunday twelve years were completed since he died, and the said Avelina was 1 ½ year of age.
Stephen de Ostewik and Stephen de Hedon agree with the said John.
John de Camberton agrees, and added that he is dwelling (manens) near the manor of Brustewik where she was born, and recollects her birth.
John de Berkhou agrees, and added that he was the said earl's chamberlain, and well recollects her birth.
Henry de Osenton agrees, for he was in the earl's service at Osenton, and well recollects.
John de Fitling agrees with John de Meaus, for a daughter of Adam de Sancto Martino, knight, his neighbour, was born three weeks before.
Simon de Lund agrees, for he was then dwelling (manens) near the manor of Brustewik.

Alincestre. A moiety sometime held of the king in chief by serjeanty of finding in the king's army a moiety of a serjeant for forty days, excepting the advowson of the church; but seven years before his death he enfeoffed his son William of the same.

Longedon. The manor sometime held of the king in chief as a moiety of 1 knight's fee by serjeanty of (finding) two serjeants, one with a lance and the other with arrows, in time of war when the king shall be in Wales, for forty days at his own cost; but on the day of St. Peter ad Vincula, 1 Edw. A messuage, croft, 3 virgates land, and 6 cottages, held of the king in chief by serjeanty of keeping the king's wines (vina) at Selveston; an assart, rendering 4s. 9d. to the king's farm at Selviston; and an assart held of the (heirs of William le Mareschal) lord of Norton, rendering 10d. yearly.
Blacolvesle. 1 virgate land held of William de Braddene rendering 18d. yearly; and a messuage and 1 ½ virgate land held of the prior of the hospital of Jerusalem rendering 18d. yearly.

Braunteston in the hundred of Falewesle. A messuage, 1 ½ virgate land, a water mill, 5s. rent and 4 cottages, held of the abbot of Lilleshull and his partners rendering 5s.

Lychebarwe. 2 virgates land, held on the day on which he fell sick of the illness of which he died, but on the day of All Saints 1 Edw. I. he alienated the same to John abbot of Staverton, and lived until the feast of St. Andrew following, and thus did not die seised thereof.

Selviston. A messuage, assarts, &c. (as in the first Inquisition), with names of tenants; also 2 virgates land (extent given with names of tenants) held on the day he fell sick, of the prior of Luffeud, rendering 6s. 1d. yearly, which-land and rent he rendered to the said prior on the day of All Saints, and lived until the feast of St. Andrew following.
Blacolvesle. A messuage and 3 virgates land held of the prior of the hospital of Jerusalem and William de Bradden (as in the first Inquisition).
Writ [of certiorari], on the complaint of the prior &c. of Loffeld, that the escheator had taken into the king's hand 2 virgates land in Silveston which the said William had quit claimed to them, 3 July, 2 Edw. I.
Northampton. Inq. Saturday before St. Mary Magdalen, 2 Edw. I.
Selviston. 2 virgates land were held by the said William of the fee of the said prior &c. for homage and service of 6s. 1d. yearly and suit of court, and on the day of All Saints, 1 Edw. I. he quit claimed the same to the said prior &c., and died on the eve of St. Andrew following, and was not seised thereof on the day he died.

[Leicester.] Inq. Friday the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 2 Edw. I.
[Norfolk.] Burston in Fuzfold, held of the king in chief.
[Leicester.] Dadelington, held of the fee of Henry de Hastinggis by service of the scutage pertaining to ¼ knight's fee, whereof Alice late the wife of the said Peter holds ⅓ by the king's command, and two parts remain in the king's hand.
Remie his brother, aged 21 and more, is his next heir.
Note that this Inquisition agrees not with the king's writ, because those concerned have not sued inquisitions for Norfolk and Suffolk, nor have they as yet reached the writer.
[Suffolk.] Inq. (undated).
Meling. The manor is held of the bishop of Norwich in chief by service of 1 knight's fee and 32d. yearly, and is charged with 8l. yearly rent at the king's exchequer for the manor of Burston, co. Norfolk, which Sir Peter de Meling, predecessor of the said Peter, held of the king in chief by grand serjeanty of selling the beasts taken for the king's debt in cos. Norfolk and Suffolk, and which manor he sold to Sir Robert de Bosco against the king's will. The aforesaid Peter enfeoffed Laurence de Melingg' of the manor of Meling to him and his heirs for ever, who held it for eight days and afterwards enfeoffed Alice late the wife of the said Peter, to her and her heirs for ever, rendering 1d. yearly to him and his heirs, and she was in seisin thereof until the subescheator in co. Suffolk by the king's command, took it into the king's hands.

Fayntre (extent given with names of tenants), which ought to find a man in the king's army, if the king shall cross with armed band (manu) towards South Wales, until he has spent three arrows with his bow with one bolt? (trocleo?), and if he shall remain longer there the king ought to find him with his expenses.
Four daughters are his heirs and of full age; a fifth does not seek a share, for she is married and fully dowered of a moiety of her demesne and wood.

Norfolk. Inq. The eve of St. Bartholomew, 2 Edw. 1.
Redenhale. The manor (extent given), including a rent called the guard of Rychemund, ¼ knight's fee held by Henry de Houton, and the advowson of the church, held of the king in chief by service of 2 knights' fees. King Edward, in the time of King Henry his father, gave the manor to the said Nicholas and Aline de Batonia his wife and to the heirs of their bodies, with reversion to the heirs of the said Nicholas. After the death of the said Nicholas the said Aline held the manor until the feast of St. Margaret 2 Edw. I., when she died, and it ought to revert to Bartholomew his brother, because the said Nicholas had no child of the said Aline. The Earl Marshal takes 100s. yearly from the manor, through a fine made by Nicholas de Leynham with him that he might hold it in peace, and it owes 5s. yearly to the hundred of Eresham, and suit at the hundred (court).
He died within three weeks after St. Michael, 56 Hen. III.
Bartholomew de Yatingden his brother, aged 40 and more, is his next heir.

Wewringe. 40s. rent held of the King in chief by service of carriage when the king shall go with his army to Wales, with a horse, sack, and pin (?) (broch') for forty days at the king's cost.
Boctone near Meydenestane. ½ knight's fee (extent given) held of Sir William de Monte Caniso, rendering 9s. 6d. to his court, and 12s. for the guard of the castle of Rochester.
Hugham. 1 knight's fee (extent given) held of the barony of Chileham, rendering 10s. weekly for the guard of the castle of Dover, 6d. to the court of Kingestone, 20s. 4d. to the court of la Rivere, 5s. 10d. to the court of Cherltone, and 4s. 6d. in small parcels.
Robert his son, aged 24 and more, is his next heir.
Sussex. Inq. and extent, Tuesday after St. Francis, 2 Edward I.
Dolleham. The manor (extent given) held of Sir John Mouuyn, William de Syuelle and William Kynet, and it owes 12d. yearly to Sir John, and 1lb. cummin yearly to the said William and William, and 21d. for the guard of the castle of Hastings; and the said William and William had all the issues of the manor until the full age of the heir: he is married, but by whom or by what warrant is unknown.
He died in Kent.

Weuringe. On the feast of ... next, seventeen years ago, the said Robert died; from which time Sir Will ... ettlinge has taken 2 marks of the 40s. rent by the king's charter as he says, and the third mark Beatrice late the wife of the said Robert took until her death at Easter three years ago, since when the subescheator has taken it to the king's use.
Boctone near Meydenestane. From the death of the said Robert, the issues of the manor (extent given) were taken by Sir William de Monte Caniso, because held of him, for eleven years and then he demised them to farm for 20 marks to Sir Hamon de Gattone for four years, when Robert son and heir of the said Robert two years ago compounded with the said William to have ingress for 24 marks.
Hugham. Sir William de Wyltone, lord of Chileham, took all the issues of the manor (extent given) for a long time, and afterwards sold those issues with the marriage to Robert de Oye, who sold them to Henry sometime abbot of St. Radegund's, and he sold them to Christine de Godwinestone, now the wife of Robert the son and heir, warrant unknown.
