Lincoln. A moiety of a messuage in the suburb, held of the king by service of 1d. rent yearly, to be paid for the king’s farm of the said city, as the other messuages of the city are held; a bovate of land in the fields, held of the dean and chapter of the church of St. Mary, Lincoln, by service of 6s. 10d. rent yearly; two bovates of land in the fields, held of the prior of Thurgarton, by service of 2s. 6d. rent yearly; and a moiety of a windmill in the fields, held of Alexander son of Martin, by service of 6d. rent yearly.
Thomas his son, aged 10 years, is his next heir.
LINCOLN. Inq. 16 April, 8 Edward III.
Alesby. Two parts of a manor (extent given), held of Maud Tiliolf, for half a knight’s fee, doing two attendances at the said Maud’s court at Alesby, and rendering 4s. 6d. yearly.
Laysceby. Two parts of eleven bovates of land, which are held of Adam de Welle by service of 1d. yearly, and there are certain free tenants there who render 24s. 1 1/2d. yearly.

Westhamtonette. Two parts of a messuage &c. and 116a. land.
Both held, together with the third part of the same, which Sarra, late the wife of William de Seyntgeorge father of the aforesaid William, holds in dower of the inheritance of the same William, of Hugh de Sancto Johanne by service of a knight’s fee and a half, and doing suit at the same Hugh’s court of Halfnakede every three weeks.
William his son, aged 15 years at the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist last, is his next heir.

Stansted. The manor (extent given), including an enclosed park containing 30a., held, jointly with Annora his wife who survives, of the king in chief, by service of a third part of a knight’s fee; and after the death of the said John and Annora the said manor will remain to the heirs of Thomas de Veer, by fine levied in the king’s court between the said John and Annora, plaintiffs, and Robert de Veer, earl of Oxford, deforciant.
Esthamme. The manor (extent given), held jointly with the said Annora his wife, &c. of the king in chief, by service of a third part of a moiety of a knight’s fee; and after the death of the said John and Annora the said manor will revert to the abbot of Stratford and his successors, similarly by fine.
Richard son of Richard Playz, aged 12 years and in the king’s wardship, is his next heir.
CAMBRIDGE. Inq. 22 July, 8 Edward III.
Barenton. A messuage, lands, rent &c. (extent given), held, jointly with Annora his wife who survives, for their lives, of the king in chief, by service of three parts of a knight’s fee; and after the death of the said John and Annora the said messuage &c. ought to revert to Hervey de Staunton and his heirs, as in a fine levied before John de Mutford and his companions, the king’s justices, concerning the same tenements, is more fully contained, and also in the king’s charter of licence.

Note from (the escheator?) that he sends this inquisition of the lands which belonged to John de Lancastre, deceased, in Northumberland, but the said John held on the day he died divers lands &c. in Westmorland, within the bailiwick, the inquisitions of which, owing to the shortness of time, are not yet taken.

All the above are held of the king in chief, as of the crown, by service of a moiety of a barony, viz.—by service of a knight’s fee and a half, and by service of rendering 33s. 4d. yearly to the king for the ward of the castle of Newcastle upon Tyne, and 16s. yearly for cornage, and rendering 9s. 6d. yearly for fines of court at the exchequer of Newcastle upon Tyne.
And there are in the said moiety of the barony of Stiford divers free tenants holding freely of the said moiety by homage and other services, who render yearly 60s. 6d. for ‘castelward’ at Easter and Michaelmas, and 11s. 3d. for cornage, and 16s. 4d. for fines of court at the two feasts of St. Cuthbert.

WESTMORLAND. Inq. Thursday before St. Lawrence, 8 Edward III.
Rydale. The manor, held by the said John and Annora his wife who still survives, of the king in chief, by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee, for their lives, of the grant of John son of Robert de Lanc[astria] by the king’s licence, with reversion to the said John son of Robert, and his heirs for ever.
Barton. A messuage called the site of the manor of Barton, held by the said John and Annora of the king in chief, by service of a twentieth part of a knight’s fee, for their lives, of the grant of Ranulph de Dacre, by the king’s licence, with reversion to the said Ranulph and his heirs for ever; the whole manor, except the said messuage, and except 67a. land, 23a. meadow, 500a. pasture, and 500a. moor, held by the said John and Annora of Ranulph de Dacre of the grant of the said Ranulph, rendering to him and his heirs a rose yearly and doing all other services due to the chief lords, &c., with remainder to Roger de Lancast [ria] for his life, in form aforesaid, and reversion to the said Ranulph and his heirs; and 67a. land, 23a. meadow, 500a. pasture, and 500a. moor, held by the said John and Annora for their lives, of Robert Parvyng, by the grant of the said Robert, rendering him a rose yearly, and doing all other services due to the chief lords; with remainder to Roger de Lanc[astria] for his life, to hold of the said Robert Parvyng in form aforesaid, with reversion to the said Robert Parvyng and his heirs.

The manor, held by the said John and Annora, for their lives, of Christiana, late the wife of Ingelram de Gynes, in chief, by service of 1d. yearly, by the grant of John de Cauncefelde, with remainders to Roger de Lancast[ria], for his life, and after his decease to Michael son of Robert de Haverington, and his heirs.

Writ to the same escheator to send without delay the inquisitions concerning the lands, &c. of the said Isabel, deceased, which he was lately commanded to make, 8 November, 8 Edward III.
YORK. Inq. Saturday the morrow of St. Martin, 8 Edward III.
Ingmanthorp in the wapentake of Clarhowe. The manor, with certain tenements in Southdighton, held for her life of the grant of William de Ros of Ingmanthorp, deceased, with reversion to the right heirs of the said William, of William de Ros of Hamelak, by fealty and service of rendering a sore sparrowhawk at the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist.
Robert de Ros, son of the said William de Ros of Ingmanthorp, aged 24 years, is next heir of the same William.

Boulton Percy in the wapentake of Aynstigh. The manor, held for her life of Henry de Percy by knight’s service.
Eustachia daughter of Peter de Percy, aged 22 years and more, is next heir of the said manor.

Scorby in the wapentake between Ouse and Derewente. The manor, with certain tenements in Staynfordebrigge pertaining to the said manor, held for her life, of the grant of Anthony sometime bishop of Durham, with remainder to Peter de Percy, deceased, and his heirs, by fine levied in the king’s court in 3 Edward II, of Sir Henry de Percy by knight’s service.
Eustachia, daughter of the said Peter de Percy, whom Walter de Heslarton took to wife, aged 22 years and more, is next heir of the said Peter de Percy of the said manor and tenements.

LINCOLN. Inq. Monday the feast of St. Nicholas, 8 Edward III.
Barton. The manor (extent given), including a market held on Monday in each week with a fair on the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross for three days, and a ferry across the Humber with the tolls of the haven, which are called ‘Haventol,’ held for her life only, as of the inheritance of Henry de Bello Monte her brother, of the king in chief, as parcel of the barony of Ghent [ (fn. 1) pertaining to the manor of Folkyngham], but for how much is unknown.
Henry de Bello Monte, her brother, aged 40 years and more [ (fn. 1) or 50 years and more], is next heir of the said Isabel, of the said manor.
LINCOLN. Inq. Thursday the eve of St. Katherine, 8 Edw. III. (defective.)
Styueton. The manor (extent given), including pasture in ‘le Hengcroft.’

Hekyngton. The manor (extent given), including rent of two measures of salt paid yearly by certain men of Byker for agistment of their beasts in the marsh, and 5s. yearly rent from certain tenants of Burton for thirty ‘spitles’ for digging turfs in the marsh, held for her life, as of the inheritance of Henry de Bello Monte her brother, of the king in chief as of the crown, and as parcel of the barony of Ghent, but for how much it is held the jurors are ignorant.
Wellebourn. A manor called ‘le Northalle’ (extent given), including yearly payments from bondmen for ‘Hestgeld,’ ‘Swyntake,’ and ‘Sheresbon,’ held for her life only, as of the inheritance of the aforesaid Henry de Bello Monte her brother, of the king in chief as of the crown, and as parcel of the barony of Bayeux, but for how much is unknown; and a manor called ‘le Southalle’ (extent given), held for her life only, as of the inheritance of the aforesaid Henry de Bello Monte her brother, of William de Cotestede by service of 28s. yearly.
As for the castle and manor of Folkyngham, and the manor of Edenham, the said Isabel was not seised of them on the day she died, because she and Henry de Bello Monte by their writings granted and demised the same to Reyner Perini and his companions, merchants of the society of the Peruzzi (Peruchii) of Florence, with the king’s licence, for four years, two years of which are not yet past.
Writ to the escheator in co. York, &c., to send without delay the original writ and certain inquisitions which he has retained, 26 November, 8 Edward III.
Note by the escheator that he sends a certain original writ called ‘diem clausit extremum’ lately directed to him, concerning the lands of the said Isabel in his bailiwick to be taken into the king’s hand, and has lately returned certain inquisitions of such lands taken by him in co. York by a certain other writ directed to him, but he does not yet send the other inquisitions on account of the shortness of time, because those lands are in distant parts.

All the rents aforesaid, with the said court, are held of the king in chief, by reason of the minority of Laurence son and heir of John de Hastyng’, by service of a pair of white gloves at Michaelmas for all service.
The aforesaid tenements after the decease of the said Lora ought to revert to the said Laurence de Hastyng’, aged 15 years, who is in the king’s wardship.

Indenture of assignment of dower between Lora, late the wife of Thomas Latymer of Braybroke, and Warin Latymer her son, of a third part of the manor of Wardon and of the advowson of the church, presenting every third time; a third part of the manor of Braybroke, except the houses within the motte (la mote), and of two parts of the advowson of the church; a third part of the rent of Daventre, Brackele and Wrocston, and of the meadow of Kyngeshale in Northampton, which were of the said Thomas; also all the said Thomas’s lands &c. in Smetheton (and) Estnorton; and the manor of Langeton, except the advowson of the church; and except the knights’ fees of the said Thomas in all the said manors and towns, of which a third part is assigned to the said Lora; dated the feast of the Purification, 9 Edward III. Writ of scire facias to the escheator to warn Warin le Latymer, son and heir of Thomas le Latymer Buchard, whose homage the king took on 28 February in his 8th year, to be present in the chancery on the morrow of the Assumption next at the assignment of dower to Lora late the wife of the said Thomas, 16 July, 10 Edward III.
Endorsed (by the escheator) that he warned the said Warin accordingly.
Memorandum.—At which day the said Lora and Warin prayed for licence to agree, and the following Thursday was given them, when the said Lora acknowledged that she was satisfied of her dower according to the form of an indenture exhibited, transcript whereof is sewn to this writ.

Wynestede in Holdernesse. A toft, two bovates of land in the hands of tenants at will, and 6s. 8d. yearly rent of freemen, held of the king in chief as of the honour of Albemarle which is in the king’s hand, by service of rendering 10s. yearly to the king to his manor of Brustwike.
Frothyngham. Two tofts in the hands of tenants at will, held of the king in chief, as of the honour aforesaid, by service of rendering 10s. yearly to the king at the aforesaid manor of Brustwike; a messuage and four bovates of land in the hands of tenants at will, held of Peter de Frothyngham by fealty; and three bovates of land in the hands of tenants at will, held of the heir of Peter son of John son of Eustace, by service of 1d. yearly.

Writ to the same escheator to take the inquisitions above commanded without delay &c., 7 April, 8 Edward III.
Memorandum by the escheator that he has commanded the sheriffs of cos. Lincoln, Northampton and Rutland to summon [jurors] where the said John held any lands &c. to extend the same &c. but many jurors of the panels presented have made default &c. so that at present he has not been able to return the execution of the said mandate, but he in his own person, the subescheators, and his clerks, are endeavouring daily to carry out the said mandate, and when executed he will return the writ first directed to him, with the execution thereof, at the chancery (defective).

Quassingburgh. The manor, held of the king in chief, as parcel of the earldom of Richmond, but for what parcel is unknown to the jury; which manor the bondmen (nativi) there hold to farm, except the perquisites of court and bondsmen’s (bondorum) aid, and they render yearly 60l. 9s. whereof the Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem receive yearly 100s.; and the aforesaid bondmen (nativi) give 6l. 13s. 4d. yearly to the lord.

A capital messuage, two stalls (seldas) which are let to merchants at fair time, 7l. 10s. assised rent of free tenants, houses and stalls for letting to merchants with wines, fish, herrings, spices, &c., at fair time, and void plots in the said town for erecting stalls, to which foreigners do not come as they used to do; pleas and amercements of courts, markets and fairs, rents of free tenants in the Sokes of Kirketon and Skirbek, and 60s. yearly rent from certain free tenants in the said Sokes for the ward of the castle of Richmond, held, with the lordship of a certain part of the town, of the king in chief, as of the crown, by barony and rendering 2s. yearly to the brethren of St. Bartholomew’s, London, for the said town, and 2s. to the hospital of St. Botolph at Easter, and 3s. 4d. to the said hospital at the feasts of the Purification and St. Botolph for a house which was of Richard le Forester, and rendering yearly to the nuns of Stikeswold 13s. 4d. for a house which was of Richard de Hildyk.

Hasting’. The barony with manors, fee-farms, hundreds and knights’ fees belonging thereto, and other appurtenances in the said county.—
Burghersh. The manor (extent given), including a park containing 100a. land, a wood called the chase of Dalynton, with pasture in the same, common to the abbot of Robertsbridge, the prior of Hasting,’ and the prebendary of the prebend of Brightlyng, with all their beasts for the whole year.
Binilhamme. The manor (extent given), including a pasture called Conyngwode, 21 boondays due from customary tenants for reaping the lord’s corn for one day called ‘Shefrepe’ for one meal (ad unum repastum).
Crowhurst. The manor (extent given), including a park containing 60a. land, a wood called le Forwode containing 70a., and customs called ‘Mederpanes,’ ‘Bredzeld’ and ‘carucage.’
Bulewarehuth. 20a. salt pasture, 53s. 10d. yearly assisted rent, and a ferry across the water of Bulewarehuth.
Fee farms:—
Codyng. 8l. from a fee farm issuing from the manor, which (manor) Richard de Codyng holds of the barony aforesaid of ancient lease.
Winchelesee. 20s. issuing from the lastage of the town, let to farm to the men of the said town from ancient time.
Hundreds:—
Colspure, Stapele, Nimenefeld, Gestlyng, Baldeslowe, Foxherle, Hauekesbergh, Shoeswelle, Henhurst, and the half hundred of Nadderfeld. Nine and a half hundred (courts) belonging to the said barony to be held twice a year, in which nothing is to be pleaded or presented except what belongs to the view of frankpledge; nor is there in the same, common fine, except only from the tenants of the aforesaid manors of Burgh[ersh], Bynilham, and Crowh[urst], and from the tenants of Bertram Monboucher, who were lately tenants of the aforesaid barony; and the sheriff of Sussex holds his turn twice a year in the said barony, before whom all things are presented which belong to view of frankpledge, except the assize of bread and ale.
And there are 6s. 8d. due from Simon de Echynghamme for the amercements of his men and tenants of Udimere amerced in the abbot of Fécamp’s hundred (court) of Gosetrowe, which amercements sometime pertained to the lord of the aforesaid barony, and afterwards the said lords granted the same to the ancestors of the said Simon for the said 6s. 8d. to be paid to the said lords yearly.
Knights’ fees:—
Fifty-two knights’ fees, the holders of which owe homage, fealty and scutage when it happens, and suit at the court of the aforesaid barony called ‘le Lath’ every three weeks, in which court are pleaded all pleas of life and member &c., and all things which belong to the baron’s court concerning all things which may happen within the aforesaid hundreds or barony; and the said tenants were sometime accustomed to do the ward of the castle of Hastyngs in four wards, viz.—the ward of Farleghe for a month, the ward of Wretlyng for the second month, the ward of Warbelton for the third month, and the ward of Echynghamme for the fourth month, and afterwards to return, so that each ward should keep its ward every sixteen weeks for a month; and afterwards the said wards, by consent of the lords of the said barony and of the tenants, were assessed, viz.—the ward of Farlegh every sixteen weeks for a month befitting it 40s. 6d., the ward of Wretlyng in the same manner 23s. 7d., the ward of Warbelton 30s., and the ward of Echyngham 38s. 3 3/4d.; and 16s. are due from the said tenants for sheriff’s aid.
Burghershe. The advowson of the church belongs to the aforesaid barony.
Which barony King Edward I, gave with the said manors of Burghershe, Binelhamme and Crowherst, and with the manors of Filsham and Hamurdenn and lands and tenements in Morlee and Corteslee, which then belonged to the aforesaid barony (which manors of Filsham and Hamerdenn and the lands and tenements in Morlee and Corteslee, the aforesaid earl in his lifetime gave by charter to Bertram de Monboucher and Joan his wife), and with the fee farms, hundreds and knights’ fees &c. belonging to the said barony, to the said earl, to hold to him and the heirs of his body, of the king and his heirs by the services formerly due.

Totenham. A third part of the manor (extent given), including a third part of the fishery of the pond of a water-mill, 17 cart services called ‘Wodelode’ from customary tenants, and pannage of pigs of the said tenants called ‘Garfanese’ (?), held for life of the grant of King Edward I, as of the demesne lands of the honour of Huntingdon, by service of a third part of a knight’s fee.
Heir unknown, because the said earl was born in foreign parts and was never married, and concerning collateral heirs born in foreign parts, the jury cannot be certain.
