Bomstedehelyoun. 1a. land, held of John son and heir of Henry de Helyoun, a minor and in the king’s wardship, by knight’s service and by scutage when it runs.
The marriage of Giles (Egidia) his daughter and heir, aged 9 years, belongs to the king by reason of the said acre of land and the minority of the said Giles, who is eloigned (elongata) from the king’s wardship, &c., by Margaret sometime the wife of John Grigge, and others unknown, and is married to William Crocheman, within the king’s seisin and against the prohibition of the king’s escheators, as is said.
Hamstede, Finchingfeld and Sampford. Three messuages and 700a. land, held jointly by the said John Grigge and Margaret his wife, but of whom is unknown at present.

Chester, concerning the manors of Bertomlegh, Crue by Weston, and Landeton, 18s. rent in Netherbebynton, a serjeanty called the serjeanty of the countess of Warwick, and the advowsons of the churches of Bertomlegh and Wodechirche, 22 March, 6 Edward III.
Endorsed by the escheator that Ranulph de Praers held the said tenements on the day he died, of the king in chief, by knight’s service, and therefore he (the escheator) seized them into the king’s hand.
Writ (of certiorari) to the escheator of co. Chester on the complaint of Joan, late the wife of the said Ranulph, that the escheator had taken into the king’s hand the abovesaid manors, &c., whereof she was enfeoffed jointly with the said Ranulph, 10 April, 6 Edward III.
CHESTER. Inq. Tuesday in Easter week, 6 Edward III.
The manors of Bertumlegh, Crue by Weston, and Landecan, 18s. rent in Netherbebynton, the serjeanty of the fee of the countess of Warwick, and the advowsons of the churches of Bertumlegh and Wodechirch, were given by William de Dutton, chaplain, by licence of the king, then earl of Chester, by charter to the said Ranulph and Joan his wife and the heirs of the said Ranulph, to hold of the king in chief; and the said Joan continued her seisin of the same jointly with her said husband until his death. He held no other tenements.
Thomas de Bertumlegh his brother, aged 24 years at least, is his next heir after the death of the said Joan.

Herthille. A manor (extent given). He held no lands or tenements on the day he died, of John son and heir of Thomas de Bardolf, who held of the king in chief by knight’s service, and is a minor and in the king’s wardship; but the same Thomas Bardolf held the chief manor of Herthill of Roger de Newemarche by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee; and the said Oliver held a manor in the said town of the said Thomas as tenant of the said chief manor; and the said Thomas on Sunday after St. Michael, 3 Edward III, gave the said chief manor to Edmund his son for life, by virtue of which gift the said Oliver for a year and a half before his death attorned to the said Edmund, and thus held his said manor of the said Edmund by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee.

Westminster. The serjeanty of usher of the king’s exchequer, to which pertain the offices of crier and usher in the king’s Common Bench and also the office of marshal, usher, crier, and keeper of the bar (barrerar’) in all eyres of the king’s justices in England, held of the king in chief by homage and fealty, receiving from the king 5d. a day by the hands of the chamberlains of the exchequer, as long as the said exchequer shall be open, for performing the said serjeanty, and also taking the fees due and accustomed from all those pleading and being impleaded in the aforesaid places.
The said John, by the king’s licence, demised a moiety of the said office of usher of the exchequer to Roger de Bedefeld, to hold of the said John and his heirs, by service of a rose yearly, for life, and the other moiety to John Dymmoke to hold in the same manner by like service for life; saving to the said John de Daggeworth, and his heirs, the said 5d. a day to be received as abovesaid, and retaining the said offices in the abovesaid eyres with their fees and profits, and a fourth part of the office of usher and crier in the aforesaid Bench. He also demised a moiety of the office of usher and crier in the said Bench to the said Roger for life as aforesaid, similarly by the king’s licence, and a fourth part of the same office to Thomas de Leeke for life, to hold of the said John and his heirs, service unknown at present.

The manor with the advowson of the church, held jointly with Alice his wife, who still survives, of the grant of John de Combes, parson of the church of Trandestone by fine levied in the court of the late King Edward I, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, with reversion to the right heirs of the said John, rendering yearly a red rose to the said John de Combes; 9a. land in the manor held of the abbot of Westminster by service of 3s. yearly, and suit of court every three weeks; 12a. land held of Walter de Stistede by service of 2s. yearly; and 6a. land and 1a. meadow held of Robert Pycot by service of 18d. yearly.
All the residue of the said manor with the said advowson is held of John Fylol by service of a knight’s fee and 5s. 8d. yearly.
Elmedone. A certain tenement, held jointly by the said John and Alice, as of the inheritance of the said Alice, of the king, as of the honour of Boulogne, by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee, and making two attendances yearly at St. Martin’s le Grand, London.

A messuage, lands and rent, held of Benedicta late the wife of John de Schelvyng and daughter and one of the heirs of Robert de Hugham, by service of rendering, with Robert de Groffherst and Robert Vyneter of Maydestan, 40s. yearly, whereof the said John ought to pay 10s. as for a fourth part of the whole tenement: the said Benedicta holds all the said tenements of the king in chief, by serjeanty of finding the king in the army of Wales, when there is war, a man with a horse price 5s., a sack and a pin (brochia), for carrying the king’s scullery (esquillariam) for forty days at his own charges.

A messuage, held with Maud his wife, as of her right, of the king in chief as parcel of the manor of Skrivelby, which is held of the king in chief by grand serjeanty, viz.—by finding on the day of the king’s coronation an armed knight on horseback to prove by his body, if necessary, against whomsoever that the king who is crowned on that day is the true and right heir of the kingdom.
Stikeswold. A messuage, 4a. land and 2a. meadow, held of the dean and chapter of Lincoln by service of 2s. 6d. yearly.
