The separate Answer of George Holland Ackers (an Infant under the Age of Twenty-one Years, by Samuel Weld his Guardian,) to the Petition and Appeal of Sophia Phipps Widow was this Day brought in.

Rhodes v. De Beauvoir.

After hearing Counsel further in the Cause wherein William Rhodes is Appellant, and Richard Benyon De Beauvoir is Respondent:

It is Ordered, That the further Hearing of the said Cause be put off to Monday next.

Bp. Worcester takes the Oaths.

This Day Robert James Lord Bishop of Worcester took the Oaths, and also took and subscribed the Oath of Abjuration, pursuant to the Statutes.

Hamilton v. Bennet et al.

Upon reading the Petition and Appeal of John Hamilton, Writer to the Signet, Common Agent, appointed by the Court of Session in the Process of Ranking and Sale of the Lands of Gairdoch, and others, belonging to the late John Ogilvie Esquire; complaining of an Interlocutor of the Lord Ordinary in Scotland, of 9th December 1831; and also of an Interlocutor of the Lords of Session there, of the Second Division, of Date 14th February 1832; and praying, "That the same may be reversed, varied or altered, or that the Appellant may have such Relief in the Premises, as to this House, in their Lordships great Wisdom, shall seem meet; and that The Reverend George Bennet, Minister of Strathmiglo, and Mrs. Ann Hutton or Bennet his Spouse, and others, may be required to answer the said Appeal:"

It is Ordered, That the said Reverend George Bennet, and the several other Persons last named, may have a Copy of the said Appeal, and do put in their Answer or respective Answers thereunto, in Writing, on or before Friday the 20th Day of April next; and Service of this Order upon the said Respondents, or upon any one of their known Agents in the Court of Session in Scotland, shall be deemed good Service.

The King's Answer to Addresses.

The Earl of Shaftesbury (in the Absence of the Lords with White Staves) reported, "That they had (according to Order) waited on His Majesty with their Lordships Addresses of Monday and Tuesday last; and that His Majesty was pleased to receive the same very graciously, and to say He would give Directions accordingly."

Clarence Railway Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Greene and others;

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act to alter, amend, enlarge and extend the Powers of several Acts passed in the Ninth and Tenth Years of the Reign of His late Majesty King George the Fourth, for making and maintaining the Clarence Railway;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

British Commercial Insurance Co's Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Lord Stanley and others;

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act to enable The British Commercial Insurance Company to sue and be sued in the Name of One of the Directors or of the Secretary for the Time being of the Company;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Licensed Victuallers, Petition from the Isle of Wight respecting Liabilities of.

Upon reading the Petition of the Licensed Victuallers of the Isle of Wight, whose Names are thereunto subscribed; praying their Lordships, "That the Laws which impose on Licensed Victuallers the Liability of making Restitution for all Goods which may be damaged in their Inns, or stolen out of them by any Person whatever, may be revised, and such Relief afforded to the Petitioners as may seem meet to their Lordships; especially that they may be relieved from the Responsibility which they are at present under to make Restitution for Charters, Money, Securities for Money, Books of Account, Jewels, Watches, Trinkets and other portable Articles of Value which Guests may bring to their respective Houses, and may easily retain in their personal Care, as well as of Luggage, Great Coats and other Articles, unless the same shall have been given under the Care of the Petitioners or their Servants:"

Plurality of Benefices Bill, Petition of H. B. Wrey respecting.

Upon reading the Petition of The Reverend Henry Bourchier Wrey Clerk, taking notice of a Bill depending in this House, intituled, "An Act to restrain and regulate the holding of Plurality of Dignities and Benefices by Spiritual Persons;" and setting forth, "That the Bill restrains any Spiritual Person from hereafter taking Possession of Two Benefices if more than Thirty Miles distant from each other; that the Petitioner has had the next Presentation to Two Benefices in the Diocese of Exeter bequeathed to him by his Father; that these Benefices have for many Years been held by the same Incumbent; that they are, however, more than Thirty Miles distant from each other;" and therefore praying, "That their Lordships will be pleased to take into Consideration his Case, and that of other Persons similarly situated, and make such Provision as to their Lordships shall seem fit:"

Dublin Coal Trade Bill:

The Order of the Day being read for the Third Reading of the Bill, intituled, "An Act to repeal several Acts of the Parliament of Ireland imposing Restrictions upon the Coal Trade, and to regulate the same;"

The said Bill was accordingly read the Third Time.

The Question was put, "Whether this Bill shall pass?"

It was resolved in the Affirmative.

Boroughbridge & Durham Road Bill:

Hodie3^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for more effectually repairing the Road leading from Boroughbridge, in the County of York, to the City of Durham; and for making and maintaining certain Deviations therein."

The Question was put, "Whether this Bill shall pass?"

It was resolved in the Affirmative.

And Messages were, severally, sent to the House of Commons, by Mr. Adam and Mr. Roupell;

Buckingham & Hanwell Road Bill.

The Earl of Shaftesbury reported from the Lords Committees, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for more effectually repairing the Road from the Sessions House in the Town of Buckingham to Hanwell, in the County of Oxford," was committed; "That they had considered the said Bill, and examined the Allegations thereof, which were found to be true; and that the Committee had gone through the Bill, and directed him to report the same to the House, without any Amendment."

Barton Bridge Roads Bill.

The Earl of Shaftesbury made the like Report from the Lords Committees, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for more effectually repairing and improving the Roads leading from Barton Bridge into the Manchester and Altrincham Turnpike Road, in the County of Lancaster," was committed.

Cockermouth Road Bill.

The Earl of Shaftesbury made the like Report from the Lords Committees, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for more effectually repairing and improving the Road from the Town of Cockermouth to the Town of Workington, and a Branch of Road over Broughton High Bridge unto and as far as the Public Highway leading from the Village of Papcastle towards and unto the Village of Great Broughton, in the County of Cumberland," was committed.

Odiham Road Bill.

The Earl of Shaftesbury made the like Report from the Lords Committees, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for more effectually repairing and improving the Road from Odiham, in the County of Southampton, to Farnham, in the County of Surrey," was committed.

Preston Waterworks Bill.

The Earl of Shaftesbury also made the like Report from the Lords Committees, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for better supplying with Water the Borough of Preston, and Part of the Township of Fishwick adjoining thereto, in the Parish of Preston, in the County Palatine of Lancaster," was committed.

Education, (Ireland,) Petitions against proposed Plan of: (Tynemouth:)

Upon reading the Petition of the Ministers of the Gospel and other Inhabitants of the Parish of Tynemouth, in the County of Northumberland, whose Names are thereunto subscribed; praying, "That their Lordships will be pleased to provide that all Grants of Public Money for Education in Ireland be applied only in Support of Systems of Instruction which are founded upon the entire Word of God, and which encourage the free and universal Circulation of the Holy Scriptures amongst all Descriptions of Persons; and further, to provide that in the Application of such Money no unholy Compromise be made with the Church of Rome, and no Support or Countenance whatever given to those who would substitute a Part for the Whole of God's Word, or who would teach for Doctrines the Commandments of Men:"

Upon reading the Petition of Walter Palmer of Pencoyd, in the County of Hereford, Farmer; praying their Lordships "to resume that large Portion of National Property now appropriated to the Support of the Church, and after making proper Provision for the working Clergy, apply the Residue to the Reduction of the National Debt, to the Relief of the suffering People of England; and that, in order to carry these Measures into Effect, their Lordships will support the Measure of Reform of Parliament which the Government has had the Wisdom and Justice to bring forward, and which is rendered absolutely necessary by the Circumstances of the Times at Home and Abroad:"

Upon reading the Petition of the Roman Catholic Inhabitants of the Parish of Carlingford, Ireland, whose Names are thereunto subscribed; praying their Lordships "for a total Repeal of all Laws respecting the Payment of Tithes in Ireland, and to provide for the Clergy of the Establishment out of the Church Lands; and that their Lordships will relieve Ireland from that most oppressive and galling Yoke, and the Clergy from that Obloquy and Reproach with which the Tithe Exactions ever covered them:"

Upon reading the Petition of the Inhabitants of the Parishes of Maghera and Killelagh, in the County of Londonderry, whose Names are thereunto subscribed; praying their Lordships "to abolish at once and for ever the Tithe System in Ireland; to consign the Provision for the Clergy of every Denomination in Ireland to the voluntary Oblations of their Hearers; and, after the Decease of the actual Incumbents, to appropriate the Rents of the Church Lands to the Erection and Repair of all Houses of Christian Worship in Ireland, to the Support of the indigent, the aged, the infirm, to the Education of the Poor, to the Construction and Repair of Roads and Public Works, and thus to banish Discontent, extinguish Religious Discord, and unite all His Majesty's Irish Subjects in One firm Band for the Support of His Crown and Dignity:"

London Bridge Approaches Bill, Petition of C. Pitt respecting.

Upon reading the Petition of Charles Pitt of Adam Street, Adelphi, Surveyor; taking notice of a Bill depending in this House, intituled, "An Act to amend several Acts relating to London Bridge and the Approaches thereto;" and praying their Lordships, "That Three Clauses, in the said Petition set forth, may be added to and form Part of the said Bill to be passed into a Law, if, upon hearing of the Petitioner at the Bar of this House or before the Committee on the said Bill, the Introduction of the Whole or any Part thereof should appear meet:"

Reform of Parliament, Petition of G. C. Rapier as to Constituency & Taxes of Boroughs.

Upon reading the Petition of George Christopher Rapier of High Heworth Hall, near Newcastle; praying their Lordships "to enter into the Merits of a Schedule thereto subjoined, shewing the relative Importance of Boroughs according to Constituency and Taxes, which he considers will be found a more equitable Mode of deciding the Fate of such Places as for their deficient Constituencies are deemed unworthy of Representation:"

Tobacco (Ireland) Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Bernal and others;

To return the Bill, intituled, "An Act to provide for the Sale, Manufacture and Consumption of Tobacco grown in Ireland before the First Day of January One thousand eight hundred and thirty-two;" and to acquaint this House, That they have agreed to their Lordships Amendments made thereto.

Plurality of Benefices Bill.

It was moved, "That the Debate on the Motion, "That the House do now resolve itself into a Committee upon the Bill, intituled, "An Act to restrain and regulate the holding of Plurality of Dignities and Benefices by Spiritual Persons," be resumed."

The same was agreed to; and the Debate was accordingly resumed.

After long Debate,

The Question was put, "Whether the House shall now resolve itself into a Committee upon the said Bill?"

It was resolved in the Affirmative.

Then the House was adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee upon the said Bill.

After some Time, the House was resumed:
