391 LUDLOW V HELLYAR

Henry Ludlow of Tadley, co. Hampshire v Ralph Hellyar of the same

November 1637

Abstract

Proceedings survive from November 1637, but they do not show either the cause or result of Ludlow's complaint against Hellyar. However, it was probably linked with the Court of Chivalry action brought by Ludlow against Hellyar during which it was alleged Ludlow had suborned witnesses. [For details, see De La Ware v Crutchman, cause 156].

Summary of proceedings

No counsel was mentioned and the only surviving proceedings were before Henry, Lord Maltravers, Henry, earl of Bath, and Sir Henry Marten on Saturday 18 November 1637.

Notes

Neither Ludlow nor Hellyar appeared in the Hampshire Visitations of 1622-34, or 1686. Henry Ludlow may have been the son of Sir Edmond Ludlow. This Henry married Lettice West, daughter of Lord De La Ware in 1602.
