To the worshipfull justices of the peace at the generall quarter sessions of the peace to be holden at Bakewell in and for the said county of Derby the twelfth day of July next ensueing

The humble petition of Henry Maulton labourer

Sheweth

That whereas your petitioner being with his wife and children settled as an inhabitant of and in the parish of Dalbury in the county of Derby and at present destitute of an habitation, hath by address made to Dame Elizabeth Sleigh lady of the said manor of Dalbury aforesaid obtained her consent under her hand and seal for for a cottage to be erected and set up by the inhabitants there on the wast within the parish of Dalbury aforesaid for an habitation for himself and his family if an order of sessions can be obtained for confirmation thereof as by the paper hereto annexed doth appear

May you therefore be pleased to grant unto your petitioner the order of this court whereby your said petitioner may be enabled to have a cottage erected for an habitation for himself and poor family on some convenient place on the wast within the manor of Dalbury aforesaid to be assigned by the said Dame Elizabeth Sleigh or her steward

And your petitioner shall for ever pray.

To Dame Elizabeth Sleigh lady of the manor of Dalbury and Dalbury Lees in the county of Derby.

The humble petition of us the churchwardens and overseers of the poor, and other inhabitants of the parish of Dalbury and Dalbury Lees within the said manor

Sheweth and certifyeth that Henry Maulton a poor man is with his [wife?] and three children settled as an inhabitant of and within Dalbury Lees aforesaid and at present destitute of a house to dwell in and unable of himself to build one.

May it therefore please your ladyship to grant unto your petitioners leave to erect a cottage for the habitation of the said Henry Maulton and his family upon some convenient place on the wast within the said manor to be assigned by your steward and we shall endeavour to procure an order of sessions for confirming such your consent witness our hands this tenth day of June one thousand seven hundred thirty and seven.

To the worshipfull the justices of the [peace?] att the generall quarter sessions of the peace to be holden att [Chesterfield?] in the county of Derby on Tuesday the [illegible] day of October 1738

The humble petition of John Fisher labourer sheweth that whereas your petitioner beinge with his wife and children settled as an inhabitant of and in the said parish of Chaddesden and att present destitute of an habitation [haith?] by address made to [John?] Gilbert Cooper esquire lord of the manor of Chaddesden afforesaid, obtained his consent under his hand and seal for [your?] petitioner to erect and set up a cottage on the wast within the parish of Chaddesden afforesaid for an habitation for himself and his family if an order of sessions can be obtained for confirmation thereof

May you therefore be pleased to grant unto your poor petitioner [the?] order of this court whereby your said petitioner may be enabled to set up a cottage for an habitation for him self and poor family [on?] some convenient place on [the?] waste within the manor of Chaddesden afforesaid to be assigned by the said John Gilbert Cooper or his steward [illegible] and your petitioner shall ever pray etc.

Wee whose names are here unto set being the chife of the inhabitents of the parish of Chaddesden in the county of Derby do freely give our consent that John Fisher [my?] erect and set up a cottage on some convenient place on the waste in Chaddesden afforesaid for a habitation for himself and his family provided that an order be procured from the lord of the manor witness our hands this 28 day of September in the year of our lord 1738

Upon the petition of John Fisher and the certificate of the inhabitants of the parish of Chaddesden in the county of Derby I do hereby give my consent being lord of the manor of Chaddesden afforesaid that the said John Fisher shall and may erect and set up a cottage for his habitation in some convenient place on the waste within the parish afforesaid to be assigned by my steward provided that an order of sessions be procured according to law for confirmation [thereof?] witness my hand and seal the twenty [ninth?] day of September in the year of our lord one thousand seven hundred and thirty eight
