Papal faculty gr. to Albano, 6 Sept. 1352, to res. chanc'ship in exch. for preb. of Stratford, and ch. of St. Thomas, Salisbury (ibid. p. 235), held by John de Wilton. Albano does not appear to have become preb. of Stratford, but Wilton is next chanc. Co-adjutors appointed, 19 Dec. and Albano ordered to adm. them 29 Apr. 1353 (Corffe, AC pp. 83, 88, 93).

M. Simon of Sudbury D.C.L. ?-1361.

M. John de Wilton 1355.

Sudbury had expect., 15 Apr. 1353 (CPL. 111 496), and claimed chanc'ship 16 Oct. (Corffe, AC p. 100). Wilton occ. 10 June 1355 (CPR. 1354-1358 p. 248), but Sudbury occ. 24 May 1356 (Lamb., Reg. Islip f. 116), and became bp. of London 1361.

Henry Chichele became chanc. by exch. Dec. 1404. Instal. 16 Dec. (Draper, AC p. 41). Estate ratif. 12 Oct. 1406 (CPR. 1405-1408 p. 243). Bp. of St. Davids 1407, but had papal indult to exch. chanc'ship for another benefice and hold it as additional benefice, 15 May 1408 (CPL. VI 132).

Royal gr. 18 May 1408 to Farington (CPR. 1405-1408 p. 470), and writ 14 Oct., forbidding any adm. pending dispute (Reg. Hallum f. 175b). Abp's mand. inq. 19 July 1409 into appeal of Farington against bp. of Salisbury for non-adm. (Lamb., Reg. Arundell 11 f. 136).

Chichele's papal indult conf. by Alexander V 20 Aug. 1409 (CPL. VI 150), but ordered 21 Aug. to resign benefices held in commendam and to collate them to persons of his choice (ibid. p. 156). Thirning, C.J., gave judgt. for the Crown (Year Books Henry IV, ed. R. Tottell (London, 1575) 11 Henry IV, pp. 37-9, 59-60, 72-4), but royal lic. gr. to Chichele for entry of papal bull, and pardon for contempt, 28 Apr. 1410 (Foedera IV i 171). William Chichele's estate ratif. 20 May 1410 (CPR. 1408-1413 p. 196). Instal. 6 Sept. (Viryng, AC p. 48). Litigation probably continued (cf. CPL. vi 214-15), but Chichele's position certain by 6 Feb. 1411 (ibid. p. 228). Res. by 30 Oct. 1420 (Reg. Chaundeler pt. i f. 39).
