April 3. York.

Restoration to Peter de Gavaston, earl of Cornwall, of the custody of the office of justice of the forest on this side Trent. Before the king had granted power to the earls and barons to regulate the state of his household and the realm, he had granted for life and good behaviour the office of justice of the forest on this side Trent to John de Segrave the elder, who subsequently in consideration of a sum of money, which he received from Peter de Gavaston, surrendered the office for the use of the latter into the king's hands, who thereupon granted it for life to the earl. By force of the ordinance of the prelates, earls and barons, the king resumed the office and then granted it, during pleasure, to Henry de Percy, from whom the earl has bought it. By K.

Mandate in pursuance to Henry de Percy to deliver the office together with all rolls, memoranda and other matters touching it to Peter de Gavaston. [Fœdera.]
