Appointment, during pleasure, of William la Zouche of Mortimer to keep the king's peace in the land of Wales and the marches thereof and to arrest all those who break the same. This appointment is made on information that after the king hastened with his army towards the march of Scotland to defend the realm, many persons in said land and marches, emboldened by the fact that the king, with the justice of Wales and the lords of divers lordships there now staying with him on his service, are in Scotland, have combined to cause disturbances and commit outrages. Commission of oyer and terminer to Thomas Bacoun, John Claver and Thomas de Reppes, on complaint by John de Rysynges, 'armurer,' that Roger le Torvye, parson of the church of Watlington, Richard Dunkan of Wyrmegeye, Henry Pope and others assaulted him at Wyrmegeye, and carried away his goods. By fine of ½ mark. Norfolk.

Appointment of Humphrey de Litelbery, Alexander de Cobeldyk and Laurence de Lek, to make inquisition in the parts of Holand, co. Lincoln, touching complaints that, notwithstanding that the king lately enjoined in every county of the realm that none should break the peace on pain of forfeiture of all that he could forfeit, divers persons in those parts, since the king went to resist the invasion of the Scots, by unlawful confederacy, take men and imprison them in secret places until they shall make ransoms and fines, and commit murders and other crimes, to arrest the guilty, with the aid of the posse comitatus where necessary, and deliver them to prison to await trial.

Commission of oyer and terminer to Richard de Wylughby, Richard de Aldeburgh, Thomas de Longvillers and Roger de Baukwell, on representation by the people of the county of Nottingham and other parts that notwithstanding the statute of Northampton that none should go or ride armed in presence of the king's justices and the king's late writ to the sheriff of each county to cause proclamation to be made that none should dare to break the peace, divers of the town of Claworth and the neighbourhood, when the king was gone to repel the invasion of the Scots, have assaulted persons at Lound and elsewhere within the county, carried away their goods, disseised them of their tenements and pastures by force, and maintained such violence by unlawful confederacies. Commission of oyer and terminer to Peter de Saltmerssh and Nicholas de Langeton, on complaint that Richard de Brackele, saying that he was a servant of John de Podenhale, a purveyor, at Clifton by York, depastured the crops, grass and curtilages of divers men of the county of York, against their will, with oxen and sheep which he said were the king's and committed to his custody by the said John, extorted grievous fines and ransoms to spare their curtilage, and otherwise greviously oppressed them. The like to John de Stonore, John Inge and John de Trevaignon, on complaint by William Bernard of Mountgauryn that, whereas he was lately sent by Oliver de Ingham, seneschal of Gascony, and John Travers, constable of Bordeaux, to England, to inform the king of some matters touching the state of the duchy [of Aquitaine], Henry de Wal, John Brice of Maushole in Cornwall and others forcibly entered the barge, wherein he and his company were coming to the king, on the sea near Moushole, assaulted him, took away the barge with 30 targes, 20 shields, 21 pairs of plates, 28 crossbows, 27 swords, 24 gisarmes, 600 weapons, 300 spears and 6 robes of his, worth 100l., which were therein, and other goods, and did with these as they would. The like to William de Shareshull, Matthew de la Vache and Thomas de Stodleye, on complaint by Malcolm de Chastilloun, knight, that Alan del Heume, John his son, Thomas brother of the said John, Hugh Bernard Richard Spirkildy and others carried away his goods at Lekhampstede and Thorneton, co. Buckingham, and assaulted his servants. By K.

The like to John Inge, John de Tycheburn and John de Hampton touching the persons who broke the king's park at Theldpark and entered his free chace at Parkhurst and his warren at Westrugge and Bordwod, in the Isle of Wight, hunted there and carried away deer from the park and chace, and hares, rabbits, pheasants and partridges from the warren. Commission of oyer and terminer to Robert Selyman, Robert de Hunger ford and Gilbert de Berewyk, on information that, although the king lately appointed certain of his lieges to keep the peace in the county of Wilts, pursuant to the statutes of Winchester and Northampton, some persons not fearing that appointment laid siege to the close of the cathedral church of St. Mary, Salisbury, by day and night, and have since broken the doors and entered the close, there forming as it were caves of robbers, assaulting the men and ministers of the church and committing daily acts of sacrilege. Commission of oyer and terminer to William de Shareshull, Robert de Hungerford and Walter de Salyng touching the trespasses of Hildebrand de London, knight, John Strympel of Hungerford and others, who, when John de Stonore and his fellows, late justices of oyer and terminer, came to La Grave, co. Wilts, adjoining the town of Wokingham, co. Berks, to execute a commission touching the refusal of the men of Great and Little Okeburne, co. Wilts, which are temporalities of the abbey of Bec Herlewin, to render their rents and services to Richard de Beausevall, one of the monks, appointed by the king to the custody of such temporalities during the late voidance of the abbey, and when some of the men were already indicted before them, coming armed to the said town of Wokingham there assaulted some of the king's ministers while preparing jury panels for the session, and other ministers, as well as the jurors set upon the panels, so that they dared not proceed in the matter and the session was rendered almost entirely without effect.
