Whereas the king, for his good service in Scotland and elsewhere, granted to Thomas de Rokeby 60l. yearly at the Exchequer until he should provide him in fee with an equivalent of land or rent, and afterwards by letters patent dated 10 May, 12 Edward III. granted to the said Thomas and his heirs inter alia the 40 marks yearly paid for the wapentake of Langeburgh, which John de Faucomberge and Bertin Fanacourt hold of him of fee farm; he commands the said John and Bertin to pay to him all arrears of the 40 marks from the said 10 May and from henceforth to answer to him for the same at the usual terms. Inspeximus and confirmation of letters patent of (1) Richard, bishop of Durham, dated at Northalverton, 11 January 1340, confirming the foundation by Robert de Mortham, perpetual vicar of the church of Gaynford, of a perpetual chantry in the chapel of St. Mary, Barnard Castle, and the endowment thereof with seven messuages, 40 acres of land and 10s. of rent in the town of Barnard Castle and Thwytyngton, and granting that he for his life should have the faculty of presenting the chaplain to serve such chantry, and that after his death the vicar of Gaynford shall be bound within two months of each voidance to present to the bishop a fit chaplain born of the parish of Gaynford, if such there be, on the nomination of the commonalty of the town of Barnard Castle, otherwise the collation to the chantry shall lapse to the bishop; and (2) of Thomas de Bello Campo, earl of Warwick, dated at Warrewyk, Thursday after St. Thomas the Apostle, 1339, granting to the said Robert licence to found and endow the chantry. Whereas Geoffrey le Bat acquired in fee from Gilbert Fraunk a messuage, 14 acres 1 ½ rood of land, 3½ roods of meadow, 19½d. of rent and pasture for 2 oxen, a cow and 30 sheep, in Estbourne, held in chief, and the said Geoffrey, William le Bat, his son and heir, and Walter le Bat, son and heir of the last named, successively entered upon the same without licence obtained from any of the king's progenitors or from the present king; the latter in consideration of a fine made by the said Walter has pardoned these trespasses and made restitution of the messuage, lands and pasture to him. Whereas Walter Evenyng acquired in fee from Gilbert Evenyng 4 acres of land in Estbourne, held in chief, and after his death Simon Evenyng, his son and heir, entered thereon and acquired in fee in the same town from John de Redemelde 2 acres of land, from Christiana Fraunke 1½ acre of land and from Thomas le Cat a rood of land, also held in chief, and after the death of the said Simon, John Evenyng, his son and heir, entered upon the same and acquired in fee in the same town from William Selyde 2½ acres of land and from Richard Whate 1½ acre of land, held in chief; and whereas they all entered upon the said lands without the licence of any king, the king for a fine made by the said John has pardoned the trespasses and made restitution of the lands. As a further grace in consideration of her long service to queen Philippa as well as to his danghter he has granted to her for life the balance of 40s. over and above her annuity from the toll. (2) Covere and Blesdale by these bounds, to wit from the head of Caldre on the south side as far as Hulvesty then over the top of the head of Pirloct, descending by the Mereclo to where it falls into Brok at Nhorsmelees, and along Brok to the duct in the east part of Wensnape, then ascending by Scogesthol to Seuesty and following Seuesty down to Calder, and thence up to the beforenamed Wulfty. (3) Fulwode by these bounds, to wit from the hay of Rauenkel to the way of Duuepull, and thence by the duct to Dupedale and to Lund at the higher head, and thence as the duct of Dupedale goes to Fulwode, and thence as it falls into Huaredescacei, and thence as the way goes to Coleford below, and thence as it falls to Cadileisahe, and thence to the hay of Rauenkel; and the men of Preston ought to have timber for their buildings and to burn, and pasture for their cattle.
